RWi RosterWatch Matchup Tool – Week 5

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch.alex byline It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested, most popular tool, the instructions couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

Week 5 Match
To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Giants RB Rashad Jennings, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First look at the Giants’ matchup for the week, and see what the number is inside the “vs. RBs” cell for the Giants’ OPPONENT.

(Jennings is a RB, and you would like to know his opponent’s rank vs. that position.)

As you will see, the Giants are playing the Falcons, who have a big, blue ‘No. 1’ in their “vs. RBs” cell. This is a great indicator for Jennings owners and owners of Giants RBs.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start, sit or pick up off the waiver wire for matchup spot-plays.

“1″ is the best matchup, “32″ is the worst.

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also weighted averages of separate individual player scouting grades for members of the 2014 unit that will be defending, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question in Week 5.

  1. Hey guys. Need some help. .5 PPR. Need 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE. Beast Mode, Jerick McKinnon, Crabtree, Justin Hunter, Odell Beckham Jr., Allen Robinson, Ertz, Larry Donnell. Thanks. Love the show, follow the advice. 4-0 and lead my league in points scored. Appreciate all you guys do.

    1. Lynch, Crabtree, Donnell. Good luck and thanks for the love

  2. Good afternoon crew.
    I have G.Bernard, R.Jennings, E.Lacy, D.Sproles, J.McKinnon, and L.Taliaferro as my RB’s. And I have Romo as my QB.
I’ve been pondering picking up R.Wilson. The guy who has him, has told me he’s looking for a legit starting RB.
Should I consider trading Lacy, or Wilson?
    Thanks.

    1. ** Lacy, for Wilson. My bad on the typo

    2. I don’t think that Wilson is that much of an upgrade on Romo, at least not enough to warrant one of your starters.

  3. 10 Team .5 PPR

I was offered Julio Jones for Lamar Miller and Sproles.

I already have McCoy, Gio Bernard, and Andre Ellington.

    Take it?

    1. Also just picked up Ben Tate on Waivers.

WRs are Alshon, Michael Floyd, and Cordarrelle Patterson with Josh Gordon sitting on my bench as well.

    2. I would definitely make that trade.

  4. Different question for a different league. Standard scoring. Need a WR and Flex. Crabtree, Watkins, Malcolm Floyd, Donald Brown, Jeremy Hill.

    1. Crabtree and Watkins.

  5. Need input on choosing 1 flex, and 1 WR out of these guys.
    Crowell and Forsett
    CPat and Hopkins

Both CPat and Hopkins have tougher match ups so I’m not sure if i should play the odd WR out at the flex or one of the 2 RBs…

  6. I have McCoy, Ball, Rashad Jennings, Gore, Alshon, C Patt, Roddy, Cooks, Hunter, Hawkins, Matthews. Which trade do yiu like better:

Gore, C Patt, and Ball for Lynch and Cruz

    Or

Gore and Roddy for AJ Green and Ingram.

Or I can do Gore and Hawkins for Gordon and Ingram.

    Thanks!

    1. Disregard my post above. Neither of those worked for the other guy.

    2. I’d do either of the latter trades. I’d lean the Green one just because it helps you know and in the future.

      1. Ok, the other guy didn’t like those offers. He sent back giving me Cruz and Ingram for giving up Gore and Hawkins. What do you think about that?

        1. I could definitely live with that trade.
          -Trashman

  7. 2 starting WR spots and I have Jeffery, Patterson, and Hurns. Who should I sit? Although Jeffery hasn’t had a huge game, he has been very solid now that he is healthy. So really, Hurns or Patterson?

  8. Would you bench CJ Spiller for Asiata? Also, which Bills RB to drop? Spiller or Jackson? Thanks.

    1. I would play Asiata over Spiller. I would drop Spiller if it came to it, but I’d try trading him before you drop him.

  9. As crazy as it sounds I feel more comfortable with Hurns.

    1. That was my gut feeling as well. The way the Vikings have been running their offense, and seemingly ignoring their most explosive player, it just doesn’t seem like Patterson will get the touches he needs to be an effective contributor in fantasy.

  10. Full point PPR league
I need to start 2 RB’s of these 5 backs: Spiller, D.Brown, Forsett, Mckinnon or Blue.
I’m leaning towards starting Spiller and Forsett
I need to start 2 WR’s of these 4 Receivers: Sanders, Tate, Andre Johnson or Jennings
I’m leaning towards starting Sanders and Tate
and using either Mckinnon or Johnson as my Flex. Who do you prefer to use?
    My other locked in starters: QB-Rodgers, TE-Bennett, PK-Bryant DEF-Cards
Do you like my decision or do you have other combos instead?
AP was my 1st rd pick, do I finally cut my ties with him or wait another week to see what the court and the NFL decides to do with him? I have Ingram too!
    Thanks, Anthony

    1. Spiller and Forsett. Forsett and Blue if Foster sits. Sanders and Johnson. Tate had a setback today. I like Johnson over McKinninon in your flex. I might try trading Brown and or Spiller, especially Brown while he still has value.

  11. Full point PPR league
My Set starters for week 5 are:
    QB-Kaepernick, RB1-Lynch RB2-Lacy, WR1-Antonio Brown WR2-Terrance Williams, TE-Olsen, PK-Crosby,DEF-Bills

I’m stuck on who to start @ Flex: K. Robinson, B.Tate, Sankey, Fitzgerald, Patterson or Watkins?
Do you suggest replacing any of these players for the ones I have already set to start?
    Thanks, Anthony

    1. I’d start Robinson. He’s got one more start in him. I would seriously consider starting Watkins over Williams.

  12. Who is better to pick up odell beckham jr or fozzy whittaker?

  13. Time for my RW fix:

PPR pick 1- Mckinnon, A. Robinson or H. Miller

PPR- pick 1- Vereen, A. Robinson or D. Walker

    Thanks guys!

    1. Robinson and Walker. Good Luck!
      -Trashman

  14. Standard league flex: Jeremy Hill, F Jax, or McKinnon?

    1. Hill and Jax are back to back in our rankings. The edge goes to Freddy.
      -Trashman

  15. Ppr league flex: Sankey or Doug Martin?

  16. Good morning. 12 team, PPR, keeper league.

I have a trade offer on the table. I would be trading Reuben Randle and receiving Michael Floyd. I realize that this looks like a “no brainer” on the surface. However, I would be giving up some keeper value with Randle. I could keep him next year for a 5th rd pick. I cannot keep Floyd. I am only slightly concerned about the keeper isssue. I am in win now mode. My other concern is the QB issue in Arizona and the fact that I think Randle is going to blow up in the rejuvenated Giants offense. He has been a target monster the past two weeks. I know I should probably be jumping in this deal, am I crazy for hesitating? Thank you.

    1. If you want to win now, Floyd is the way to go. He’s the de facto no.1 in Arizona regardless of who’s throwing him the ball, he had a great game with Stanton before the bye. Also you have to think that Beckham Jr. is going to take some of those targets from Randle once he gets going.

  17. Hey guys – Love the website! Need some advice/input on some trade thoughts. In a 12 team 1/2 point PPR league, my team is as follows:

    QB: Tom Brady
    RB: Jamaal Charles
    RB: Matt Asiata
    WR: Brandon Marshall
    WR: Jordy Nelson
    TE: Zach Ertz
    Flex: Steve Smith Sr
    BE: Kelvin Benjamin
    BE: Vincent Jackson
    BE: Fred Jackson
    BE: Mark Ingram
    BE: Shane Vereen

Obviously I am stacked at WR and definitely see a potential to boost the QB or TE position of my team. Thoughts on who might be the best WR’s to sell now and get maximum value? Was thinking maybe going for Julius Thomas at the TE position or either Romo, Wilson or Flacco at the QB position. I’m only 2 years into playing fantasy football and know enough to see the opportunities here to utilize the depth at WR and RB positions to generate really good trades for me, but with so many potential options, just looking for some thoughts on who you guys would give up and would like to see them traded for.

    Thanks!

    1. I might trade V Jax while he’s the go to in Tampa, before Evans gets back. I think Wilson will be the most consistent QB of those you’ve mentioned, and he’s probably a little cheaper than Romo.
      -Trashman

  18. Is it worth picking up Eli Manning and Selling high on Matt Ryan to pick up an elite RB such as Charles or Forte in a 10 Team Standard scoring league? I’m very light at the RB position and am 1-3 in the league.

    1. Sorry 12 Team Standard League not 10

    2. If you think you can get one of those guys I’d say go for it.

  19. Reggie Wayne or Brandon Cooks this week in a twelve team PPR?

  20. Hi Guys,

I have Ryan Matthews & Mark Ingram stashed and are occupying my bench. I was ok until QB Tom Brady went south. I don’t have a backup QB but have a chance to pick up new kids on the block i.e Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Mike Glennon. In order to do that I need to either drop Ryan Matthews or Mark Ingram.
    I would appreciate any comments.

    Thanks in Advance

    Starting Lineup:
    QB : Tom Brady
WR: A J Green, Roddy White
    RB: Mike Asiata, Montee Ball
    TE: Larry Donnell
    FLEX: Emmanuel Sanders
    K: Nick Novak
    DEF: New England

    My Bench:
Terrance Williams, Lamar Miller, Brain Quick, Ryan Matthews, Mark Ingram, Travis Kelcie.

    1. I would definitely attempt to trade one of those guys before you drop them. Find an owner with an extra QB and make some offers.

  21. 12 team PPR league and I’m looking for one WR and one flex position. Garcon, M Floyd, Hilton, Ivory, L. Donnell
    Thank you in advance.

      1. Malcom Floyd of SD

  22. Since Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis both had big games against the Patriots, what are your thoughts about Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill having similar success in a standard league?

    1. I think they’re both in line for a lot of work.

  23. Good shiz guys. Trade question: 12 Team PPR, 5-pt TD for QBs. I have Cousins and Tannehill. I’m being offered Cutler or Kaepernick for one of these 4 WRs: Benjamin, Crabtree, Garcon, Marshall. Can start 2-4 WRs. Pull the trigger or roll with what I got? And if so, which is my best deal?

    1. I don’t really think those guys are worth your wrs. I would consider Dalton or Flacco if they are on waivers. Glennon and Bortles will be decent plays too. I just don’t think either of those guys brings enough consistent value to trade one of your wrs.

  24. I have Greg Jennings, Shane Vareen, and Allen Robinson. Need one for flex.

  25. Post By TheBallerFormerlyKnownAs

12 team 1pt per reception, 1pt per rushing attempt, 1 pt per 10yds
    Team: No TD’s all Bush
Record: 3-1 5 (way tie for 1st 3rd most points)
    Starters: QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1Flex(no QB), 1K, 1Def
    Current Roster
    QB: Matt Ryan
WR: Crabtree, Cruz, Terrance Williams, E. Decker
RB: Forte, Morris, Bush, Sproles, Ball, West
    TE: Donnell
    K: C. Parkey
    Def: Chargers, Bengals
I have been offered Brandon Marshall straight up for Montee Ball? Should I pull the trigger?
His squad: QB: Rodgers, Roethlisberger WR: Brandon Marshall, Smith Sr., Maclin, Roddy, Torrey Smith RB: Ridley, Vereen, Knile Davis, Helu Jr, Ry. Matthews TE: Cameron K: Novak DEF: Packers

  26. I have both donnell and Kelce. I’m looking to improve in rb or wr. Someone wants to trade justin forsett fot donnell. That doesn’t seem to be enough or am I too greedy. I have Levon bell, Doug Martin, ivory and taliaferro.

    1. Forsett isn’t an upgrade over any of those guys except maybe Taliaferro. I think you can get a better offer.

  27. It’s a 12 team ppt league by the way. Sorry

  28. I have Brees and Rivers. Rivers has been really good so i’m wondering if maybe i should shop Brees to try and land a stud WR or RB? I already have Jimmy but am kinda lacking at other positions:
WR: CPat, Harvin, Benjamin, Hopkins, Lafell
RB: Jennings, Sankey, MJD, Crowell, Forsett

Should I put him on the market or hold tight?

    1. I would offer whoever you think has the best market value. They should perform similarly, and you do need more depth, especially at rb.

  29. 1 pt PPR league: I’m thinking of dropping K Robinson (Ingram coming back soon) to pick up Sankey. My flex would then be between Sankey and Ivory. Problem is that I would like to play SD Def which would be counter productive if I play Ivory. Or I could play the Denver D instead, just don’t like the matchup as good. So what would you advise? Sankey or Ivory with SD or Denver D?

Also, your thoughts on Garcon, Hawkins or K. Wright please. Thanks.

    1. I like Ivory here. Denver D should do alright against Stanton.

  30. Oops! Regarding previous post – I also have Ellington who would be going against the Denver D. : )
