RWi 2014 Fantasy Football Draft ADP Reference Tool: Running Backs

2014 Fantasy Football Draft Tool: RBs
Byron Lambert, Rosterwatch.com

This is the standard scoring data we had compiled through Week 15 of last season, in preparation for fantasy championships. As usual, we look more closely at medians than averages. You should do the same.

Some circumstances have changed, like Rashad Jennings moving to New York or Knowshon Moreno out of shape in South Beach, but it’s an awfully interesting look back to 2013 at veterans against current Fantasy Draft ADP’s. You’re also reminded that guys like Danny Woodhead and Pierre Thomas are sneaky lethal in PPR formats.

  1. Hey guys! Discovered your site from hearing your show on Sirius last weekend and I love the analysis. Different than many other sites imo. I have a dilemma and wanted your opinion. I am in a 14 team, standard scoring, 1qb, 2rb, 2wr, 1 te, all TDs are 6, and 1 flex rb/wr/te. We are a keeper, salary cap league. My question is about Trent Richardson. I got him as a rookie and I have him under contract for this year at $109 on an avg. $500 cap per team. My problem is I can use the cap room at our auction draft but can’t decide if he is going to bounce back or not. If I cut him, I get back half of his salary. The problem is, our draft is light on RB talent in the draft this year with the likes of Demarco Murray, Foster, Ridley, Vereen, R. Bush, Gore, Matthews, MJD and all the rookies being the best available. I don’t have any other RBs that I want to keep (Andre Brown $10, Helu $15, Latavius Murray $10) so I am going to be drafting at least 4 guys with about $150 remaining on my cap after signing: Stafford/Palmer ($76 Total for both) at QB; Richardson at RB, Golden Tate($12), Hilton($11) and Marvin Jones ($12) at WR and Ertz ($10) at TE. I would hate to cut him and watch him really bounce back for someone else but I don’t want to watch what I had to suffer through last year. I saw you have TRich ranked pretty high on cheatsheet so I assume you are high on him. I was until the first game and their OL looks like it will still be awful, maybe worse. Trent has talent but appears to need to be behind a top OL to produce. Cut him and stockpile mid/low level RBs and hope one breaks out or hold on to TRich and hope he bounces back while pairing him with a mid level RB? Really looking forward to your thoughts. Thanks!!

    1. JCL- thanks for the terrific question. You are a very intelligent fantasy player. You basically broke down TRich perfectly. Without knowing how much you believe Murray, Foster, MJD, etc will cost in your auction- our best advice is to keep Richardson and gamble on some of the lower tier RBs. We think RB is fairly deep this season and like some of the sleepers, especially the rookies.

We completely understand your concerns and fears. It could be another tough year. The fact that you only get half his contract back tilts this towards keeping him. He has zero competition with Ballard lost for the season and Ahmad Bradshaw’s Frankenstein body. He’s also on a high powered offense in a questionable division- which are two things we love.

It appears even if he struggles he should get a fair amount of scoring opportunities, and will at least be a decent option for you to consider starting any given week.

      Good Luck,

      Byron

  2. something a little different.. 16 teams, all td’s 6 pts, 1 pt/25yds pass and 10yds rush or rec.
    3 PLAYERS PER TEAM.
1 qb, rb and wr/te. draft order 1-16, 16-1, and 16-1 again.. #1 draft pick can choose what spot he wants to draft in.. 1 thru 16. then #2 chooses, etc etc..
You can have 4 waiver wire pickups per year. 1st one free, next three each cost you 20% of entry fee (not cheap)
1st ?..if chosen #1 what spot do you choose to pick from??
2nd..? what player do you hope to get at that spot???

  3. dfarmer-

This is pretty cool! Peyton Manning should be the first pick in this draft. We’d strongly consider choosing the #1 spot for that reason. If you think you can get him later, that’s great.

Generally speaking, we like the #7 spot in drafts, and most times we are getting Lacy, Graham, or Peyton there. I don’t think you’ll be able to wait that late in your format if you want Manning. Also, in this format we would take Calvin Johnson over Graham in that top 7. (Peyton, McCoy,AP,Charles,Lacy,Forte,Calvin- whoever falls to you- we like Forte the least here)

    Good luck!

  4. What’s up guys, I’m sitting at #5 in my standard league. I wanted to know where should I look at far as starring picks? Thanks.

  5. bexmuzik-

At pick 5- we are crossing our fingers for Eddie Lacy! Good luck.
