After bringing in quarterback-coddling head coach Jay Gruden, it will be an interesting offseason ahead for owner Dan Snyder and the Washington Redskins. The team goes into 2014 in an unfamiliar position recently – with a fair amount of cap space; close to $25M.

With a crop of 19 unrestricted free agents, General Manager Bruce Allen still has his work cut out for him, though. Stud OLB Brian Orakpo is one of those free-agents. While his book-end running-mate Ryan Kerrigan is in a contract year. Both have to be addressed, AND the roster has to be improved.

The biggest free-agents of fantasy relevance in Washington include: Santana Moss (WR), Josh Morgan (WR), and Fred Davis (TE). Moss looked decent in a slot receiver role last season- we’d bet on him as most likely to be back. He’s been a core locker room leader. Morgan only had about 200 receiving yards, and Fred Davis went AWOL.

Other pass catchers such as Leonard Hankerson (WR), Aldrick Robinson (WR), and Logan Paulsen (TE) may be on the bubble. Each of them had less than 400 yards receiving in 2014. Paulsen’s $2.3M salary may be unpalatable for Daniel Snyder in light of the emergence of young buck Jordan Reed. If the team is pinching pennies either Hankerson or Robinson could be cut.

The circumstances potentially leave the new offensive regime with a seemingly barren receiver cupboard behind Pierre Garcon and Jordan Reed. Roy Helu (RB) may actually be a sneaky nice fit in Jay Gruden’s west coast offense as a receiving weapon out of the backfield. If not, he can also be cut to save the Skins about $1.5M against the 2014 NFL salary cap.
