Combine Re-Cap – Alabama CB, Dre Kirkpatrick

We were all confused for a minute. The media figured he must have meant this year. Then Kirkpatrick clarified his statement, the TD he gave up on the first play of the game versus Florida was not just the only TD he gave up this year but it was the first and only TD he has given up….EVER!!! The whole crowd of reporters literally just looked around at each other like we had seen the bearded lady.

Dre Kirkpatrick is a big physical CB from the Nick Saban school of hard knocks with a very serious demeanor. Draft guru Mike Mayock rates him as the 2nd best CB prospect in this draft but as more of a zone CB. #21 is quick to tell you he can play everything. Kirkpatrick maintains that he played a ton of man coverage (bump and run + off) and also has some experience in zone schemes under defensive mastermind Nick Saban.

Not at all short on confidence he also has a good memory. He doesn’t remember the player’s name, maybe so not to give him too much credit, but he does remember his number. #4 University of Florida. Yep, Dre says that is the only player that has ever scored against him. He says he knew pre-snap it was coming his way but got a little too amped to make a play and was beaten by a step.

I’m not sure if this is good news or bad news for NFL teams but Kirkpatrick feels that maintaining his poise early is the only flaw he needs to work on. Otherwise……….he thinks he’s pretty good at everything else!

Many draft pundits, including myself, currently have the Cowboys selecting Dre Kirkpatrick at #14. Most experts consider this a complete steal for Dallas.

Watch Dre Get BEAT………BARELY!
