Confirmed: Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill WILL NOT Work Out at NFL Combine
Alex Dunlap, Rosterwatch.com
Many top draft experts have former Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill among their top 3-4 prospects at the position for the 2012 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, Tannehill suffered a foot injury training at IMG in Florida that prevented him from accepting his invite to play in this year’s Senior Bowl. His availability for the NFL Combine has been a question mark since. Minutes ago, I learned that the injury will indeed prevent Tannehill from taking part in workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine next week.
Tannehill’s agent tells me that the break occurred in the fifth metatarsal- a weight bearing bone in the foot. He had surgery performed by Dr. Anderson in Charlotte and will continue his aggressive rehab at IMG under the supervision of the Bucs’ team physician and a “battery” of physical therapists.
He says that Tannehill will be in Indianapolis next week to interview with teams, and do everything except workouts. He will go through MRI’s, physicals and X-rays. He says that the teams he has spoken with know this is not a terribly troublesome injury, and that no one he has talked to appears one bit worried about the condition. He went on to mention that teams are generally very trusting of surgeries performed by Dr. Anderson.
He is fully expecting Tannehill to be ready to compete at 100% when Texas A&M’s Pro Day rolls around at the end of March.
As it happens, he was actually on his way down to IMG when I called. He is taking Ryan and his fiance (now wife, Lauren Tannehill) out for dinner this evening to catch up. I don’t know who caught the bigger fish- the agent reeling in Tannehill as a client, or Tannehill reeling in this woman as his Valentine:
