Houston Texans

Ryan Fitzpatrick is not the answer in Houston, and I imagine that will become blatantly clear in little to no time. fourth-round pick Tom Savage has twice his arm, but clearly far less experience under center. I’m not sure he’s Houston’s QB of the future either, but I definitely see him making starts this season should the Texans not acquire another QB.

Garrett Graham’s role as the “move”  tight end is safe this seasson, as rookie C.J. Fiedorowicz is set to compete for the in-line tight end role. Ryan Griffin is his main competition there, so that is who stands to lose snaps.

Indianapolis Colts

Rookie WR Donte Moncrief is ridiculously talented and one of my favorite receiver prospects from this year’s draft. He’s a natural playmaker with enormous upside, but so is virtually every other receiver on the Colts roster right now. The only way I see him making an impact this year is if Reggie Wayne has a setback from his ACL surgery, which is actually a real possibility. Otherwise, I don’t see Moncrief eating into much veteran playing time.

Jacksonville Jaguars

In most situations, I would say first-round pick QB Blake Bortles would have a great chance at unseating Chad Henne under center, but the Jaguars are intent on bringing the big-armed rookie along slowly. Henne’s job is safe in another rebuilding season for the Jags.

In a move that was a head-scratcher for some, Jacksonville brought in RB Toby Gerhart to lead its backfield this offseason. They believe in him though, and they’ll give him ample opportunity to run away with the job. Rookie Storm Johnson still has to best Jordan Todman and Denard Robinson for backup duties, and he’ll probably only see the field on special teams in year one of his NFL career.

The Jags drafted two strong receivers in Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson, but either player will play opposite Cecil Shorts not in his stead. Justin Blackmon is probably not going to play this season, so Lee and Robinson have long leashes this year. Ace Sanders is the WR hurt most by the rookie acquisitions.

Tennessee Titans

QB Jake Locker may finally have all the pieces to put together a serviceable season, and barring another injury he’ll have the chance to see it come to fruition. Cannon armed rookie Zach Mettenberger may have to “redshirt” as a rookie due to a lingering knee injury, so his chances of making starts are questionable at best.

If there’s any running back who is sure to see a demotion this season, it’s Shonn Greene, as Bishop Sankey is all but certain to take over the starting job in Tennessee. In truth, it’s more of a lack of promotion rather than a demotion for Greene. He was never the lead back for the Titans.
