PRO RosterWatch End Zone and Goal-Line Targets Report: Week 3

alex bylineHere you can find a new tool we’ve added for the 2017 season. Each week, we will maniacally go through the All-22 tape on NFL Game Pass and chronicle every time a player is targeted in the end zone. Red-Zone targets are a nice statistic, but are not as telling as being targeted in the actual end zone which is clearly a much higher expected-value event. We could not find this statistic available publicly anywhere else, so our solution was to do it for ourselves and for RosterWatch Nation. We hope the database, which will be updated on Thursdays weekly through Week 15, is one you find useful in making your critical sit/start decisions or in projecting player performance moving forward while gauging value for trades.

A few notes:

– RosterWatch considers an end-zone target a target where the player is targeted either in the end zone, or where a reception occurs as a player is entering the end zone. For example, if Corey Coleman leaps in the air from the 3-yard-line and makes a catch in the air outside of the end zone but lands in the end zone, we count those as end zone targets. A goal-line target is one where the player catches a pass inside the one yard line on plays designed to get him in the end zone.

– RosterWatch considers all end-zone and goal-line targets to count even if the play is nullified by penalty. For example, if Rob Gronkowksi is targeted in the end zone and the defender is called for pass interference giving New England a new set of downs at the one-yard line, the end-zone target will still be counted. This is also the case if the play were to be called back due to holding by an offensive lineman or any other penalty. As long as the play was live when the end-zone target occurred, it will be counted.

– RosterWatch does not award end-zone targets to players closest to the ball when a QB clearly is throwing away a football out of the back of the end-zone.

– RosterWatch counts all end-zone targets, including those on two-point conversions. For example, if Alshon Jeffery catches a pass in the end zone for a two-point conversion, he’ll still be awarded a red-zone target. If the reception is made, a * will be added next to the number in the “TDs” column to indicate it was a conversion attempt rather than a TD. NOT ALL TDs CAUGHT BY A PLAYER WILL BE CHRONICLED IN THE TOOL. For example, if Amari Cooper catches a ball at the 20 yard line and runs it in, it will not be listed. The only TDs listed in the tool are those that occur as a result of end-zone or goal-line targets.

    We get 6pts per touchdown I’ve been playing Dak & doing good. Do I drop him for Cutler for this week? I have a stacked bench of good WRs & RBs so I can’t drop anybody without losing them on waiver wire. Daks been consistent for me around 20pts, am I over thinking Cutlers upside this week?

    I picked up Golladay in week 2 waivers and picked up Perine & Kearse in this week’s waivers (dropped Perkins and CColeman).

    My strategy in my Standard scoring, 10-team league (redraft) is to continue building a roster for late/post season through waiver stashes. Thanks to your draft cheat sheet, I have good starters with youth on their side. It’s a 2RB/2WR/1FLEX-RB or WR.

    D’Onta Foreman and Kamara are still available. I’m considering dropping Golladay to pick up Foreman but think I should wait one more week to make this move and hope he’ll be available. Do you agree I should wait for now? And, do you think Kamara is a better stash than Foreman? Based on ROS SOS towards late/post season games, NO has a slight edge but I think Foreman has a better chance at increasing his workload sooner than Kamara and think Lamar Miller might wear down by late season.

      thanks – Foreman is the better stash if you’re looking for a player who could blast onto the scene as a major contributor at some point. You can probably wait to pick him up if you plan to use Golladay this weekend, but you’ll want to off yourself if somehow Lamar Miller goes down vs. the Pats. ; )

      I don’t really have a feel for that trade one way or the other. If you want to diversify the type of WR on your roster, you have a bunch of big beasts and maybe a more volume guy like Baldwin could help you out some but I’m not doing backflips to get rid of Martavis on my bench.

    I got a live one here Alex. 12 team PPR. Offered Jarvis Landry for my Buck. Countered it for Keenan Allen. Declined. I’m already stacked with WR2s so I declined Landry. He offered me Kenaan Allen for CJ but as a son of rosterwatch I know thats a CJ offense. RBs are pretty premium in this league.     In one of my leagues I waited a little to long for QB but still felt comfortable rolling into the season with Dalton because I believed in the offense. What a bad read that was! I’m in a good spot in that league despite because I loaded up on RB’s. Do you think that the change in OC is going to have any effect on the offense? Shoudl I give Dalton another week or two? I could drop him for a waiver wire QB. Currently the top 8 options on the wire are Siemian, Goff, Bradford, Palmer, Flacco, Kiezer, Watson or Cutler. On a side note were’s the robot genius been? I listen to the show on XM and the podcast and haven’t heard much of that perverted degenerate.

      The little creep doesn’t get home from Belize until Week 4. He needs three weeks of data before his little robot pants start cranking out throbbers. I like Dalton more this week than others, but maybe it would be worthwhile to pick up Siemian just in case he keeps this up. Dalton has always been good in road games with out of conference, out of division opponents and the new OC will pepper AJG. Let’s see how he does this week but roster Siemian just in case he shits the bed again.

      Personally – I’m getting Dalvin back in-regardless of the “matchup”- people don’t know he had sick TD called back last week. He’s ready to rumble back at home on the fast track. While, useful this is still very early season matchup data.

      And, you have to get Allen in. Crazy wold we’re living in. If you hate the matchup for Dalvin, I’m to sure you can like it a whole lot more for Hyde- logic would dictate to roll the dice on Carson in that scenario. Again, for me- I feel better with Dalvin. But all great options this week!

      Feels like another great week to play Thompson, this one I tough. I’d make sure to get Allen in – then watch the status of Jordan Howard and Rob Kelley along with the matchup tool to make the decision on the other two.

      Super close on those other guys- think I’d roll with whoever has the best matchup. Cook’s upside is pretty limited, but I don’t think he’ll blank you.

    PPR DYNASTY. got an offer of brady and lamar miller for darrick carr.. i get carr(i may can get dez included in the deal) we start 2qbs 3rb 3wr 1Flex 1TE DEF. we have 10 bench spots.. its an 8 team league. if i get rid of miller i will still have cj anderson, hyde, kareem hunt, joe mixon, perine, darkwa. my WRS are julio, ODB, devante parker, crabtree, martavious bryant,maclin.. as u can see i dont neet miller so this is pretty much going from brady to carr and this is a dynasty league. i dont really need dez as u can see. he has jamal charles and since i have cj anderson, i can try to get charles included in the deal.. is it worth it? or even if i dont get charles or anything else, is it worth it? my feeling is that miller is on borrowed time

    I’ve been a Sirius listener for a couple of years now, but this my first season as a pro member of the RW Nation. Really enjoying all your tools from draft prep to in season management.
    My team is sick (10 team league so it should be), but WR heavy, because .5 PPR AND 1 pt EVERY 7 yards receiving. All other scoring is standard except 1 pt every 30 yards passing. I have Antonio Brown and Ty Montgomery locked in.

    So I wake up this morning to both a trade offer and a text message regarding said trade offer. The offer is to send AB and CJA for Ajayi and Gronk. Not a huge fan because obviously as a nation we aren’t willing to get rid of our Ferraris for less than what they are worth. I’m looking at his roster and he has no WRs except Garcon that are worthy of starting. However, he has Gordon, Montgomery, and Ajayi. I’m willing to get rid of AB for two of the monsters he has in his stable. Trying to figure out if its worth it and what piece I should probably throw in with AB. My RBs are CJA, Martin, Coleman, Riddick, Miller, and the newest addition off waivers Perine. WRs are AB, Tyreke, Keenan, Hilton, and Watkins. I need guidance.       SO I’ll start by saying, I wouldnt want Gronk back in any trade. Dont want to sign up for that injury headache.

      You are deep enough at WR where giving up Brown wont kill you, but I would be trying to use Hilton or Watkins. Watkins could get a value boost after last nights game too.

      If you could get just one of his RBs for Hilton or Watkins, thats the route I would go. If Im you, I want to hold onto CJA and add to be RB depth.

      I like your thinking. I’d toss him AB and Lamar Miller and see if I could get Gordon and Gronk or two of the RBs . If not, you never feel bad about having AB.

      Otherwise toss him Tyreek and Miller for one of those sick RBs!

      I dont like giving up RB depth when I dont have to. With how volatile the RB position is, the more horse int eh stable, the better.

      That said, its not a bad deal value wise. I just dont think you have to have Rodgers/Brady/Brees to win.

    I had Rams defense this week. Do you recommend I look for floors or ceilings?

    I am thinking I don’t need to panic and I should be focused on higher floors but certainly need to make up some ground.

      You need to just keep making the best sit / starts possible and not worry about cockamamie logic and strategies. I’d go with whichever of those two TE is higher in our rankings- I like them both. Henry is my guy.
