PRO RosterWatch End-Zone Targets Report: Week 2

alex bylineHere you can find a new tool we’ve added for the 2017 season. Each week, we will maniacally go through the All-22 tape on NFL Game Pass and chronicle every time a player is targeted in the end zone. Red-Zone targets are a nice statistic, but are not as telling as being targeted in the actual end zone which is clearly a much higher expected-value event. We could not find this statistic available publicly anywhere else, so our solution was to do it for ourselves and for RosterWatch Nation. We hope the database, which will be updated on Thursdays weekly through Week 15, is one you find useful in making your critical sit/start decisions or in projecting player performance moving forward while gauging value for trades.

A few notes:

– RosterWatch considers an end-zone target a target where the player is targeted either in the end zone, or where a reception occurs as a player is entering the end zone. For example, if Corey Coleman leaps in the air from the 3-yard-line and makes a catch in the air outside of the end zone but lands in the end zone, we count those as end zone targets.

– RosterWatch considers all end-zone targets to count even if the play is nullified by penalty. For example, if Rob Gronkowksi is targeted in the end zone and the defender is called for pass interference giving New England a new set of downs at the one-yard line, the end-zone target will still be counted. This is also the case if the play were to be called back due to holding by an offensive lineman or any other penalty. As long as the play was live when the end-zone target occurred, it will be counted.

– RosterWatch does not award end-zone targets to players closest to the ball when a QB clearly is throwing away a football out of the back of the end-zone.

– RosterWatch counts all end-zone targets, including those on two-point conversions. For example, if Alshon Jeffery catches a pass in the end zone for a two-point conversion, he’ll still be awarded a red-zone target. If the reception is made, a * will be added next to the number in the “TDs” column to indicate it was a conversion attempt rather than a TD.

Cooper had 3 and 1 TD

    1. His TD was not on an end-zone target. He caught it on the one or two yard line and was sort of pushed in.

    2. the TD column is only for TDs that come via end-zone targets. If someone has 3 end-zone targets but scores a TD on a play where the reception occurred outside the end zone, it will not show a TD in the tool.

    Alex,

Who to start this week for my flex in a 12-team PPR? – CJ Anderson or Golladay? The safer play seems to be Anderson because of guaranteed touches, although the legendary matchup tool tells us it’s not a great matchup. My thought on Golladay is considering the Giants secondary is strong, it will open things up for Golladay since NYG’s top two corners (including Jenkins) will be on Tate and Jones.

I also have Austin Hooper for consideration and can pick up Dorsett, Terrance Williams (ankle sprain, but I love him for the first half with Dez tough matchups against the league’s best corners), and Kenny Britt.

    Thoughts?

    1. Golladay has a high ceiling but a way lower floor. He is very touchdown dependant at this point and I feel like the Monday night game is going to be low scoring. Anderson has a much high floor and is safer.

      1. Yeah- I’d roll CJA – this is the time to be playing him. Let’s see more out of Golladay before we start depending on him. We are just glad to own him right now!

    2. For what it’s worth, I also have CJ and Golladay and plan on starting CJ… safer floor and currently #16 RB on the RW big board vs. #51 WR for Golladay.

    3. Britt’s in the dog house with Hue for dropping a big pass. If he doesn’t get it together this week, he might not even start.

Dorsett is a mystery in the NE offense. For Indy he was supposed to be a big 1st round weapon for Luck but he never really panned out. Even with Moncrief out last year for 6-7 weeks, he couldn’t contribute. Was the clear #2 but was never FF relevant. TY just got bigger numbers. Now Belichick might perform some dark magic and turn him into something, cos anything is possible in NE. They do need receiving help, but he probably becomes the #5 or 6 option which sucks for consistency.

Williams is solid when he’s in there but he only played 51% of snaps vs NYG.

I’d probably pick up Britt for upside as maybe #2 option after Coleman in Cle but Williams isn’t a terrible choice in a better offense.

FOR MY THIRD WR, HOGAN, M. LEE OR COREY COLEMAN

    1. ML

  4. A few days ago, I was asking about who I should consider dropping for waiver wire targets, Byron suggested that because my team is pretty stacked, I should try to trade Sammy and Bilal for one better guy to open a waiver spot… I’m trying to work out their value, would an offer for DHop be fair? M Thomas, Cooks, L Miller, Marshawn?
Just kinda looking for a range of targets so I don’t make a skewed offer one way or the other…

    1. We like Hopkins. Cooks is prob not quite enough. Prob nobody given Marshawn for that, but we want someone better than Miller if possible. If you do a deal for Miller make sure you get D’Onta.

Could aim for Alshon, Tyreek, Keenan type of guy. Honestly even Baldwin or Crabtree or Amari Cooper would be an upgrade.- and we’d prob do it.

      1. Thanks Byron. Great answer!

  5. Thanks Alex and RW for the new tool. It’s a helpful statistic for those tough sit/play decisions AND for ongoing team tweaking/building for late season and playoffs.

And enjoyed Tuesday’s podcat; helpful for this 1st waiver wire decisions.

    1. Thanks Freebird! Best wishes this week!

THANKS ROSTERWATCH! LOVE THE CONTENT. MY FIRST YEAR SUBSCRIBING AND ALREADY SEEN IMPROVEMENT. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

    1. Thanks you so much for your loyal support, you are an important member of #RWNation

  7. Is Roster Watch nation trusting Hunter Henry this week… my league has a short bench – I only want to carry 1 TE – We rolling the dice on this guy or looking to play a C. Clay or J. Cook (both available) and moving to those guys moving forward?

    1. We still trust Henry on the season – but it’s hard not to play Clay or Cook this week.

      1. Clear as Mud! Let’s play week to week and see if Hunter is still there after waivers pass??

  8. Hey guys, I need 2 of these players (PPR): B. Powell, Garcon, B. Marshall, Kupp or R. Mathews?
    Thanks fellas!!

    1. prob CK and RM, maybe PG

  9. Tons of RW love so far on DeVante Parker – in standard currently ranked 5 spots ahead of Dez (assuming because of Bryant’s Denver matchup?). Dez #1 in week one redzone targets… cockamamie business to start thinking about fading Dez this week for someone like DeVante who we haven’t seen play yet? Guess I’ll wait and see where the rankings shake out on Sunday

  10. Who do you like better for the near future? Clay or Bennett? 1PPR

  11. This is maniacal analysis. So great to have all your tools this season – off to a great start in FF and DFS thanks to RW. So glad that I became a PRO subscriber!

    1. Thanks Jim, glad you enjoy. Best wishes.

    EIFERT OR CLAY PPR

    1. sucks it’s even a questions, cool that you have two solid options- check our rankings closer to time. My hunch is we’ll gamble on Eifert – but it’s very close in PPR- and Clay feels safer.

  13. I just got a trade offer – I get James White and I give them David Johnson. Non-ppr league and my other RBs are Gurley, JStew, and Buck Allen

    1. Doesn’t move the needle for us. I’d be careful about who I sent DJ to, make em pay up a bit. White is a waive wire type guy. You can get somebody like that any time in standard.

      1. Thanks for replying so quickly. Appreciate the analysis

  14. My maniacal masters,

ROS bench spot. 10 team 2 QB PPR. Have Snead. Avail on the wire are: C. Davis, Twill (I have Keenan), Zae, Kamara, Decker, Gallaway. Swap Snead for any of them? Also, 2nd qb is A. Smith (holding onto Luck). Keep Smith or grab Tyrod, Flacco (sheet shows great matchup) for next few weeks.

    Thank you in advance! KC

    1. You can if you want. I’d prob drop Twill if I had Keenan- unless you think it’s some type of WR handcuff situation you want to be invested in.

      1. Should’ve clarified. Snead sitting on bench but the other list is available. Thank you.

  15. Should I start Tevin Coleman or Joe Mixon in my flex?

  16. I’ve got a RB problem and I’m working to trade WR depth for some help there. If that doesn’t happen, I’m picking between Marlon Mack in a good matchup and Derrick Henry. It’s a 14 teamer so the waiver wire is not pretty.

    1. Probably Mack – get that deal done, you likely have great WR depth.

  17. “Mr. Glass” (Danny amendola) was dropped in a deep league. 1/2 ppr, 12-team. Worth a pickup if I have to drop Mike Williams or Mike Wallace to get him?

    1. Wallace looks awful this year, we’d drop him for most warm bodies until we see more.

      1. Picked him up and dropped Wallace, thanks!

Alex Smith/Kirk Cousins/Carson Wents/ Stafford for a streaming option this week?

  19. tough but I actually might lean Smith in a Reid game against his old assistant coach.

  20. Post By nferreir@hotmail.com

Fellas. Trade question. 12 team league. 1 pt ppr. I have hunt and martavis. Being offered devonta Freeman and doug Baldwin. Take it? My remaining WR are Evans, green, diggs. Rb’s r crowell, coleman, mixon, buck Allen and foreman. BTW thanks for the sick weekly tools. Gonna dabble for first time in DK with that hyper dfs tool.

  21. Post By kkisell@courtsplus.org

Do I give up on Doctson and pick up Marqise Lee? I don’t need either one right now but looking to the future. 1/2 pt ppr.

    1. Post By kkisell@courtsplus.org

Or do I gamble on John Ross?

      1. Post By nferreir@hotmail.com

Waiver wire sheet (as Lee is above doctson in sheet) and most recent podcast says to make this move.

        1. Thanks Nferreir for jumping in! You are an awesome member of #RWNation

          1. Post By nferreir@hotmail.com

            5 star podcast boys!!

    2. Yeah- that’s a great enough disparity on the sheet- that yes- you should

      1. Post By kkisell@courtsplus.org

Different league, ppr, drop Doctson for John Ross?
Flex – T.Coleman, Hilton, Davis, Kupp?

        1. Dueling injury concerns and both their QB are having a tough start. I’d grab Ross and hope Dalton starts to suck less.

Flex probably Tevin, GB D can’t be as good as they looked last week, right? I also like Kupp vs Was. McVay will have a good game plan. TY is screwed if Tolzien starts, but there’s Brisset who’s been there for a minute could lean on TY.

  22. Hey need help. Qb I have Goff right now. Sieman bortles Cutler Dalton flacco on wavier. Who should I roll with. And ppr. Need a rb2 and flex play. McCaffrey k Williams, t hill, Corey Davis, Paul Perkins. I have hunt going as my rb1. Thanks boys! Won all 5 leagues so far. Do work Roster Nation!

    1. I panicked and dropped Dalton after his 1 point game. To soon? I see you guys took him off the top 20 list

      1. Prob too soon- but ultimately – at least early in the season – Dalton is only a streamer anyways, albeit a good one. There are plenty of other comparable options any given week. Just go with the guy on your wire who is highest in our rankings. If you can get Dalton back, great. The matchup tonight isn’t anything worth losing sleep over.

    2. Cutler, Flacco, Dalton all acceptable streamers. Check our rankings.

      McCaffrey
      THill

      1. Thanks

  23. Is it time to bail on Doctson and grab Goodwin. He is listed right below him on the WW sheet.

    On WW.

    Terrance Williams
    Goodwin
    Kearse
    JJ Nelson

    1. If I needed a flyer to start this week- I guess I’d rather have Goodwin but his matchup is tough. If it’s just a stash- I’d rather hold Doctson.

      1. Thanks. I’ll hold for now

  24. Standard league, pick 1 to start in my flex

    Alshon
    Martavis
    Tevin Coleman
    Tarik Cohen

Note: I’m starting Jordan Howard at rb2

    1. Cohen and Coleman are your safe options- they also have some upside.

  25. Which of these rookies have: A) the best chance at relevance this year? and B) The best shot at real fantasy value in the next few years?

    R. Switzer T. Taylor J. Reynolds C. Clement A. Darboh T. Gentry J. Chesson

I have one more slot in my dynasty league and these are the stragglers of the rookies.

    1. A- Gentry, Taylor (is this Taywan or Trent?), Darboh / Reynolds / Clement all very close, Switzer

Switzer goes up if we are looking longer term. Reynolds has a real shot at a big role if either the Rams don’t extend Watkins, or Robert Woods isn’t back next yr- JR looked very solid at Rams camp. However, if those guys are back – it’s going to be a tough climb up the depth chart- he should be able to take the job from Woods if it’s a fair competition next year- they may still like the veteran presence.

Darboh has a solid shot if Paul Richardson peters out this year. Clement is sneaky if Blount goes down- we liked him at the Sr Bowl. There are all a bunch of sneaky decent options for a stash.

      1. Trent. Sorry

  26. All right guys- I’m in here for the next hour. Let’s roll!

  27. Post By pulse009@hotmail.com

2qb league I have 4 qb’s — Trade Mccown and Demaryius for Dez?

    1. Yeah

  28. Fellas, Felllllllas……Get feeling: is Josh Doctson going to do anything this year? next year? Ever? Is he….Middling? all hype? What should I as a ‘Skins fan and a moderately invested owner expect? (besides pain.)

    1. Can’t expect anything at this point, only hope. He’s a guy we won’t be surprised if people drop him now and come to regret it badly later in the season- or he could be a young guy going the way of the DoDo bird like Perriman and White with injuries.

The reason we believe different with Doctson, is he really is a technician not just an explosive athlete like those others. I’m only dropping him for guys significantly higher on this week’s waiver wire cheat sheet. But, you can feel free to drop him if necessary and lose no sleep over it.

      1. Thanks a lot!

      2. Perriman was targeted a couple times by Joe but couldn’t catch vs Bengals.

  29. Post By kkisell@courtsplus.org

1 pt ppr, drop Doctson for John Ross?
Flex – T.Coleman, Hilton, Davis, or Kupp?

    1. close call- but yes probably so!

  30. Post By thetzel3@aol.com

First year with Roster Watch Nation, couldn’t be more happy. Draft worked out great, first week I only used matchup cheat sheet and won & scored league high points too. Now while looking around I’ve found ppr player rankings. Inside that there’s a few different categories too, rank-matchup-ecr-vs ecr. As a newbie what’s ecr & vs erc. Plus how do I utilize all that info to best set a lineup. Does rank out way matchup ? Last week I sat M Thomas over another WR because his matchup was worse then the other WR. Now this week I currently have K Allen & Fitzgerald starting and using Crabtree in flex. But with that I have A Brown, M Thomas, S Watkins & Garçon on the bench because of matchup defense. I know I should start Brown no matter what. I just need guidance on how best to use all the info you guys supply and how to work it into what players to start & sit in my ppr league. Thanks for all the help

    1. Welcome to #RWNation, we are excited to hear about your success!

ECR- That is the consensus ranking across the industry
Ranking- That is our RosterWatch ranking of the player

So you can see if we like somebody more or less than the industry on average.

Use the rankings to set your lineup. When it’s fairly to pretty close then use the matchup tool and others to break the tie.

      Best wishes!

      1. Post By thetzel3@aol.com

Thank you, that makes it very clear.

  31. Thanks for all you do for #RWNation!

Bench question – my 5th WR is Corey Coleman in a 10 team std. Someone dropped Snead. Worth stashing Snead? But also have Thomas. Thoughts?

    You guys rock! thanks!

    1. I’d keep CC. Thank you Tigers, we appreciate you very much- you are a great member of #RWNation!

      1. Thanks! I’m so stacked at some positions the only moves I had to make were to fill in for injuries DJ and Robinson. And in one league for DJ, I just moved Hunt into place to pair with Beastmode!

  32. Filmstudy Ravens thinks that the Ravens will move Allen to the third down RB role and for catches with Langford coming in to spell West on some downs because of Langford’s history of drops and weak pass pro.

My guess is that they will split the Woodhead role between Allen and Campanero.

All guess that Ravens will need to throw a little more vs the Browns this week.

    1. Interesting, yeah it could be a sneaky breakout week for Flacco. We like Allen. Thx Minion- hope you kept Rams DEF!

      1. Yep I didn’t do a thing. I unfortunately think Henry will be in sooner rather than later because Murray is going to break or his wheels will fall off.

  33. When in doubt, roll with the trasman flex rankings. Just like the cheat sheet.

    1. Absolutely, AMEN brother!

  34. Who do you start?

    Rivers or Big Ben?

I’ve noticed that you guys just moved Rivers ahead of Ben in the rankings, but are still back to back

  35. I’d roll Rivers.

    1. Thank you!

  36. The Chargers DEF looked solid vs. Denver last week and Cutler is an INT waiting to happen. Would you recommend waiting on Devante Parker for a better matchup? My other options are DJax and Corey Coleman 12 team non-ppr

    1. This is for my flex spot- could also play Buck allen in that spot

    2. I’d put Parker in over either of those guys- but it’s a close call with DJax who I also like this week. Yes, I think the SD def is sneaky play this week for the same reasons. Good eye!

  37. Got a trade offer I need some assistance with. I would give away Buck Allen and Devante Parker. I would receive Terrel Pryor and Chris Carson. It’s a 1 PPR league. Allen is my rb5 and Parker is my wr3/4. What does everyone think?

    1. No, we like your two guys better- and best case scenario it’s an even trade- that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. We’d stand pat or make that owner offer you something better!

    2. My guess is that Buck picks up some targets that would have gone to Woodhead this week. I am also strongly on board the Cutler to Parker speed boat.

  38. Post By pulse009@hotmail.com

    Rivers or Cam?

    1. Cam

  39. QB Rothelessberger
RB J Howard, M Lynch, J Mixon, CJ Anderson, D Henry
WR J Jones, Diggs, K Allen, D Parker, T Hill
    TE M Bennett
    K Tucker
    DST Rams

We have std scoring +return yards. I don’t really like my RB mix. Meaning I trust rw but I don’t sleep easy (despite outscoring everyone else in my league by a ton) – I really love you guys.

I do like Henry because I think Demarco Murray is going to get hurt or his wheels are falling off. I like the beast until he dies in the field but I think ductape will hold him together the entire season. I’ve never liked CJ. Mixon I think will come on later in the year, but he does some stupid things in the field warranting his RB3 on the Cincinnati depth chart for now. Howard I just don’t know.

I live my WR core but not really Julio – I just don’t know why. I’m wondering when Allen will get hurt like Woodhead. Praying nothing happens to him. I want to Street race with Parker this week.

I’m not sure about Bennett yet, will Rodgers throw too him more since he tried to start a fight for him last week?

Is there anything you would suggest? Maybe a trade?I’m confident in my group but I want to try and make it even better.

    1. Minion – chill brother- those RBs are very solid for the foreseeable future. Maybe start keeping an eye out for some opportunistic trades to consolidate some of that talent in move in on some high end RBs you prefer here over the next month or so.

  40. Torn about PPR FLEX. Need two of Cobb, Quiz, C. Coleman, or Buck A.
    Thank you!

    1. Buck and either Quiz or Cobb. See what trashman thinks in his Flex rankings on FRI.

      1. Cool. Thanks Byron.

  41. Post By thetzel3@aol.com

Trade offer ppr giving up Crabtree & Clay for Ertz. Still have A Brown, Fitz, M Thomas, K Allen, Watkins,& Garcon.

    1. You are overpaying, but you can get away with it because of your depth. Really the deal should be Watkins or Garcon + Clay for Ertz.

      1. Post By thetzel3@aol.com

Ok will put those deals out there and see why happens

      2. Post By thetzel3@aol.com

Would Crabtree straight up for Ertz be ok

Devonta freeman and Jeffrey for my gurley and diggs ppr. Good trade?

    1. meh

      1. Post By antmcdaniel88@gmail.com

I don’t really like it either. I’m gonna stand pat. I have tevin Coleman and want both and be in that guessing game.

  43. Considering dropping Perkins and picking up Kamara for upside potential later in the season. I’m set at RB and WR position so just looking for value. I could wait another week but fear another team will move on him. I just don’t sense Paul will ever be considered for my flex.

10-team, Standard scoring league and my roster:
RB MGordon, DCook, DMartin, TColeman, DHenry, PPerkins
WR MEvans, KAllen, THill, DParker, CColeman, KGolladay

Hold off another week or two or make the change? Thanks in advance.

  44. RWNation,

Would yall roll with Deandre Hopkins for flex tonight or roll with one on my bench?

    Cohen
    Corey Davis
    Kupp
    Golladay

    Thanks!

    1. One more in my bench… Devante Parker

    2. Stick with your stud. Good bench tho

      1. Much appreciated. The volumes for Hopkins is too much to avoid. Gonna roll with the stud.

        1. Thanks guys

  45. Hey guys!

Quick question for a non-ppr league. I have one WR spot, and one FLEX spot open. My options are: Tyreek Hill vs. PHI, Keenan Allen vs. MIA, or Paul Perkins vs. DET.

Thank you for your help. Y’all are the best around!

    1. Keenan Allen is a must start, and so is Tyreek Hill. Put those two in, and feel awesome about it, that sounds like a RosterWatch Roster!

      -B

      1. Much appreciated. Exactly the way I was leaning! Thanks.

Great intel and tools on this site! Need a TE hold me over until H Henry becomes relevant. Wanted to pick up Clay. Can drop either B Powell, A Peterson, D Foreman, A Hurns, or S Bradford from my bench. What do you think?

    1. if you’re deep at wr, hurns. at running back, foreman. I like Clay in PPR formats.

Thanks Trashman. Do you like a TE better than Clay in standard?

I have Dak in a 6pt td league, do I drop him for Flacco, Cutler, Taylor, Bradford,Manning,Goff, Kizer. Or drop a low bench guy aka Garçon, Watkins or B Allen? Or just leave him in with lower expectations.

    1. I like Dak more than any of those guys on the season. Unless this is an 8 or 10 team league, I’d hold onto Dak. Those bench players are too promising to drop right now.

    Hey All,

New to RWNation for a few weeks now. First time I listened to XM radio and heard your segment I was in. I love your stuff and all and crushed my drafts all thanks to your hard work. Quick question for my 16 team standard league. I need to pick 2 more wide receivers to start and have the to choose from. I need two between K. Allen, T. Hill, and A. Jeffery. I also have Julio who is an obvious start. I sat Allen last week but am having a difficult time choosing for this week. Thanks
