RWi RosterWatch Matchup Tool – Week 3

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested, most popular tool, the instructions couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

Matchup Week 3

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Bears WR Alshon Jeffery, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First look at the Bears’ matchup for the week, and see what the number is inside the “vs. WRs” cell for the Bears’ OPPONENT.

(Jeffery is a WR, and you would like to know his opponent’s rank vs. that position.)

As you will see, the Bears are playing the Jets, who have a big, blue ‘No. 1’ in their “vs. WRs” cell. This is a great indicator for Jeffery owners and owners of Bears WRs.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit.

“1″ is the best matchup, “32″ is the worst.

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also weighted averages of separate individual player scouting grades for members of the 2014 unit that will be defending, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question in Week 3.

  1. To fill 2 slots including a flex, which are the best options? Sammy Watkins, Michael Crabtree, Donald Brown, Mike Evans? 10-team standard.

    1. I’m having to choose two out of three of thos guys to, just not Evans – I’m leaning starging Watkins and Crabtree but will not be happy if Brown goes off and P.Peterson gets stuck on CRAB! ; )

    2. icepick-
      Brown and watkins

  2. Who should I start Donald Brown or CJ Spillar in a 2pt PPR?
    Thanks

    1. Spiller in a ppr. good luck

  3. I need one flex out of these 7 guys, please?

TY Hilton, L Miller, Bobby Rainey, K Robinson, K Benjamin, T Williams and N Paul.

    10 team, 1pt PPR.

My starters are: L McCoy, G Bernard, Edelman, A Jeffery, and K Allen.

    Thank you.

      1. Trashman,

I had it narrowed down to Miller, Benjamin, and Hilton. Using the matchup tool the Jags have the easiest defense–facing TY Hilton. Miller faces the Chef’s who are #21 against the Run. However, Miller should get more touches than anyone else on my list except for maybe K Robinson.

The hard thing about 10 team leagues is everyone’s bench is loaded making flex decisions difficult.

Thank you for reading all these questions!!

        Tear’em up this weekend,

        Mike

        1. No problem. I like Robinson this week too, but I like the combo of pass catching and carries that miller represents. He will also be there on the goal line.

          1. BTW, I compared your matchup tool w/ the points allowed data for QB’s, RB’s, WR’s, and TE’s (Fox web site and FFToolbox site). I found they are fairly congruent which is reassuring!!! In a few more weeks the data will be much more statistically powerful. Of course, you guys have degrees in that sort of stuff! Strong work.

          2. Thanks Mike, we do our best.

  4. I traded for ap before he was suspended today. I gave up Nelson Marshall garcon and miller for AP vjax djax and spiller. Did I completely lose and destroy my season or is there hope left.

    1. There is hope yet. It might hurt for awhile, but Spiller is doing great, and djax should be back next if not this week. If McCown can get things going in tampa, you could compete. And ap will probably br back at some point this season if you can hang on.

  5. The match up tool says I should start Rivers over Brees… I tend to think I should go with Brees being back in NOLA this weekend.

    Hopkins or Benjamin?

    Stewart or Forsett?

    1. I like Brees, but I like Rivers even more this week. Benjamin and Forsett.

  6. Full ppr we start 3 WRs, 2 rb, te, wr/rb/te

    I have:
Wr- Julio, Allen, Evans, Benjamin, hunter
Rb- r. Jennings, j. Bell, DMC, l. miller, f. Jackson, Gerhart, d. Brown
    TE- graham and kelce

I know I’m going to start Julio and Allen at wr. I’m debating between Evans and Benjamin at that 3rd spot. I know Evans has a MUCH better matchup, but I just like Benjamin better.. One could go in the flex though.
And at rb I’m thinking Jennings and bell against Green Bay.
And I could go DMC, Gerhart, Benjamin/Evans, or miller in the flex.
I need your help guys. What are your thoughts?

    1. Also, Martin, Knile Davis, Bernard Pierce. Start 2. Who do you pick? Standard with 1 point for 5 yds receiving

      1. davis and martin. good luck

    2. I’d start benj over evans and put miller in my flex for sure.

      1. Alright that’s how I had it set while awaiting your answer.. So are you good with Jennings and Bell over DMC, Gerhart, Jackson, and brown? Thanks again as always you are a huge help!!!

  7. My WR’s are Cobb, Jeffrey, Benjamin, Welker. My RB’s are McCoy, Ball, Bush, Sproles.

    I need to start 2 WR’s, 2RB’s 1 Flex; 1/2 PPR…

    I’m thinking:
    WR: Cobb, Jeffrey
    RB: McCoy, Ball
    Flex: Bush

I would start Sproles in the flex, but Reggie in the dome, against a spotty GB defense seems like a good play. Or is it a must i get Sproles in? Sit Ball against Seattle?

    Thanks

    1. I’d roll with Sproles in flex.

  8. After snagging Bradshaw and Brown off waivers I’m a little crowded at RB and need to consolidate some RBs for WR depth instead. My WR corp is dependent on a healthy Harvin and the rookie Kelvin Benjamin. Not sure which WRs to go after? I’ll need to drop someone for a streaming DEF anyway so a 2 for 1 trade is ideal.

The only reasonable offer I’ve received so far is: Mike Wallace + Bobby Rainey for my Darren Sproles? Should I accept? I’m starting to stress just thinking about my weekly RB2 “who do I start” decisions among Sproles/Ridley/Bradshaw/Brown… and hopefully one day T-RICH! Someone did drop Mike Evans so who would be the most expendable RB for him? Quick and Sanu are also available …

    My team is as follows:
    12 team Standard
    QB: Rodgers
    RB: R. Jennings
    RB: Sproles
    WR: Harvin
    WR: K. Benjamin
    TE: Graham
    FLEX: Gronk
    Bench: Ridley, Bradshaw, D. Brown, T. Richardson, J. Hunter & A. Williams

    Thanks in advance!

    1. That trade seems pretty even to me, but you should be consolidating players not adding them. I could drop williams for evans.

      1. Should I counter with just Sproles for Wallace then? I think I can get better value for Sproles and the other team also has Roddy White and DeSean Jackson so is it worth trying to flip Sproles for maybe Roddy straight up?

Another team has DT, Brandon Marshall, Cooks and Maclin so which two of (Sproles, Ridley, D. Brown, Bradshaw, T. Richardson) would you offer up for one of WRs? His backs are Gerhart, Asiata, Pierce and Tate so I feel he’s the most RB needy..

Last question if you don’t mind! Assuming I don’t get a trade a done this week, who the hell do I start at RB2 out of: Sproles vs. WAS, Ridley vs. OAK, Donald Brown @BUF, Bradshaw @JAX, or T. Richardson @JAX.. and of course none of those matchups are worth playing someone over GRONK at the FLEX right?

        1. That seems more than fair. I’d offer him ridley for maclin straight up. I think it might be wise to ship Ridley while he’s hot and hasn’t fumbled yet. I’d start Ridley against OAK if you don’t trade him and no.

          1. Thanks for the reply man but just to clarify your first answer… which trade is more than fair? Sproles for Wallace? or Sproles for Roddy?

  9. I would like some advice on who to start this week, who to keep for the long haul and maybe who to offer up for a trade. I have to start2 wr 2 rbs, and 1 flex in a standard 10 team league.
WRs: Julio Jones, Patterson, Sanders, Benjamin, James Jones
    TE: Julius Thomas
RB: Leveon Bell, Lacy, Brown, Gore, Davis, Rainey, Robinson

Plus, I’ve got a bid in on Lamar Miller, which I’m fairly confident I’m going to get. Now I have to make some tough choices. I’m going to have to drop someone for a kicker also.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Jones, Patterson, Bell, Lacy. I’d drop rainey if martin does indeed come back.

  10. Besides Miller, Martin, Gerhart, and Pierre Thomas are out there. Josh Gordon is available too.

    1. Doug martin? pick him up for rainey, and make sure to get gordon on your team.

      1. So drop Rainey, pick up Doug Martin? Who should I drop to pick up Gordon?

        1. yes, rainey for martin. I’d drop jones for gordon, but keep in mind you can’t use him for awhile. If for some reason you find yourself losing the next few weeks, you might have to cut him loose, but if you can maintain a solid record and hold onto him, he will be a game changer when he returns. I went undefeated with him last season.

          1. Looks like I spoke too soon. After saying Martin would play all week, TB is now saying he won’t go. I still like Martin over the long run.

  11. What type of work load do you see Khiry Robinson getting with the absence of Ingram?

    1. close to twenty carries if you average his and Ingram’s loads over the first two games.

  12. Please help set this line up:
    14 Team, Non-PPR
    Aaron Rodgers – QB
    Keenan Allen – WR1
    Le’Veon Bell – RB1
    Zach Ertz – TE
    Marques Colston – W/T Flex
    Micheal Floyd – W/R Flex
    Trent Richardson – W/R Flex
    Greg Jennings – Bench
    Steven Jackson – Bench
    MoJo Drew – Hurt
    Knowshon M – Hurt

Bench and Flex spots are where help is really needed! Thanks!

    1. Everything looks in order here terrifik. good luck!

      1. Ok thanks! Was thinking Jackson instead if Trent.

  13. So he’s a depressing question.
I drafted MJD in a fourteen team league i think in the 5th round as a RB2 and have been regretting it since I clicked the draft button. Add in his injury situation – and I’m wondering if I should i drop him to take a flyer on Jerick McKinnon – or wait it out to see how MJD responds in the coming weeks?

Devonta Freeman is also on waivers

    1. jmason1361-

This is a good question. Depends on what you need. MJD still may have some long-term value on the season. McKinnon may have the most immediate value but it remains to be seen how much. He’s definitely an interesting wild-card- his long-term value is yet to be determined pending the outcome of the AP situation. We still like Freeman’s chances of earning a solid role in ATL- but it’s either going to take some time and be late in the season or an SJAX injury which could happen at any time.

If you are looking for some potential sizzle in the short-term we prob just say bleep it and take a chance on McKinnon here. If you are conservative we would hold MJD and keep an eye on Freeman. Good luck

  14. Would you trade Roddy and Gore for Julio and Hyde? PPR league, I have McCoy, Ball, Jennings, Jeffrey, Patterson, Cooks, Hunter, and Hawkins. Or do your like Gore and Ball for Gio and Michael Floyd better?

    1. The first trade is the one to go with. I don’t see Hyde outperforming Gore any time soon, but you proabably aren’t starting him anyways.

    2. xraytakr-

Yes, we always want the best player in this kind of trade. That is Julio. Do it! The rest of your RBs are so good you won’t miss Gore, and Hyde has plenty of appeal on his own. No, we do not like the Gore/Ball for Floyd/Gio deal. Good luck.

  15. Based on the news that I just read of Rainey starting tonight possibly or it being a full blown rbbc in Tampa, I’m thinking of picking up khiry Robinson or Lamar miller and dropping b. Pierce. Would you start either of those two this week over Martin? Rainey, asiata, j. Hill, DMC, d. Brown are all out there too on the wire. Who would you pick up to start over Martin this week? Or would you stay put? This is an 8 team, double rec. yds for rbs. Also it’s $3 to pick up a player

    1. wow, your wire is loaded. on account of the rec. yards i like Rainey, Miller, and Asiata. Of those, I think Miller has the most long term value. Rainey is a great start tonight though. It all depends on whether you’re looking for long or short term potential.

    2. nmarino028-

We would certainly drop Pierce , for Miller with Moreno out. It’s very hard to trust Martin even though he has a great matchup. We would prob roll Miller out there. We would also heavily consider McFadden. Good luck

      1. Thanks guys! That’s what I was thinking too. I’m gonna keep an eye on the pre game tonight bc if Martin is out, then Rainey could have another huge game. If not I’m going to go with Miller. I like him a lot and he might run away with the job before Moreno gets back. This league is tough bc even though our wire is stacked, I can only hold 4 rbs and Martin and Charles (and I dropped Matthews, and will pick him up later) are two of them v_v. You guys are always a huge help in times like this!

        1. nmarino028-

          Best of luck this week!

  16. need two out of these five in a 10 team ppr league: Ellington, Vereen, Pierre Thomas, Asiata and Bradshaw, currently i have antonio Brown in the flex spot

  17. 10 Team .5 PPR
I am very heavy at running back.
    McCoy, Gio, Ellington, Sproles, Hyde

    Somewhat light at WR
Alshon, Patterson, Michael Floyd, James Jones

    TE is Rudolph

Jimmy Graham owner in my league is interested in Sproles. Would you package Sproles and Rudolph in an attempt to get Graham? Reason I am considering this is because it will be difficult to get all those RB’s in my lineup. Any other suggestions would be great.

    1. I would do that, but I’d get him to throw in a wr. he’s going to have to drop one anyways most likely in a two for one.

  18. 10 team PPR

1 WR and a flex; K Allen, A Johnson, Ridley?

    Also, Ryan or Newton?

    1. AJ and Ridley, I like Ryan this week, but division games are always tougher than they seem. I go with Cam.

  19. In ppr league. I need rb2 and flex.
    Rashad Jennings
    Pierre garcon
    Bobby Rainey
    Joique bell
    Also tight end
    Gates
    Ertz.

    1. Jennings, Rainey if Martin sits tonight, and Garcon if he doesn’t.

  20. Who to start? 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 flex…ppr… Love the show, struggling thus far, 0-2 start.

    Forte
    Ellington
    Gore
    Bradshaw

    Harvin
    Patterson
    A. Johnson
    V. Jackson
    Benjamin

    1. jschles14-

      Bradshaw + Forte
      Patterson + Andre Johnson

Flex – Harvin in a ppr (Vjax in heavy consideration here he had monsters vs ATL last yr)

      Good luck

      1. I like it. One more for you… Newton over Brady this week?

    2. Sorry to hear about that j. I like Forte and Ellington, AJ and Harvin, and Bradshaw in the flex.

  21. Ive got McCoy as my RB1, but undecided of my RB2 this week.

Ive got Sproles, Ivory, D. Brown (Lost Mathews).

Worried about starting P. Rivers and Brown. Who would you start?

    1. I always like volume. Brown would be my guy.

      1. I could personally never start Brown over Sproles, but that that’s what makes him the trashman ….

  22. Obviously Matt Forte is a stud and right now he’s my RB1 and Gio is my RB2 but I’m wondering since Forte is playing the Seahawks if maybe sitting him and starting Donald Brown and using Michael Crabtree as my Flex would be a good idea

    1. Forte is at the Jets, but I see your concern. What I would do is keep forte in and put Brown in my flex.

      1. Right. Sorry I was just picking up Miami D because the Broncos are playing Seattle at the time I was posting this. Thanks for the advice

  23. Need help with this week’s line up. PPR. Definitely starting McCoy, Ball, and Ertz. Need 2 WR and a Flex.

    Jeffrey
    Roddy
    Patterson
    Jennings
    Gore
    Cooks
    Hawkins
    Kelce

    Thanks!

    1. xraytakr-

      Alshon, Patterson

Rashad Jennings (if this is Greg- then go Cooks)

      1. Haha, it’s definitely Rashad. That’s what I was thinking, thanks!

  24. Flex: Rainey or L Miller?

    1. MikeVegas-

      Rainey- good luck!

      1. I agree. tyvm!!!

        1. What a Fu^#ing disaster:(

          1. Rainey squirms his way to 13.5 pts.

Not a complete disaster, but I’m probably in an ~8 point hole.

Thank you very much for your earnest help and website!

  25. Pick 2 standard: Asiata, Vereen and Ellington.
Also, Brady or Cousins? TGIF in ATX!

    1. Vereen, Ellington – and believe it or not, we might actually start Cousins.

  26. I will probably be asking this one every week:
Need 2 for flexes, 1 pt PPR league:
Golden Tate, Kendall Wright, Andrew Hawkins or Chris Ivory
    Thanks!

  27. Forgot to ask about D:
    Colts or Broncos?

  28. Hey guys. The simplicity, but more importantly, the efficacy of your sheets is amazing. I am so thankful I stumbled on your XM show a few weeks ago. Wondering if you can help me with something…

How do you go about deciding what is a “fair” trade offer? I have searched Google for things like trade analyzer or trade value, but get wildly different responses. In a redraft, 1 pt. PPR, with the following roster…

    QB: Brees
RBs: Gio. Bernard, Rashad Jennings, Terrance West, Joique Bell, Carlos Hyde, Jeremy Hill
WRs: Randall Cobb, Mike Wallace, Kendall Wright, Eric Decker, Mike Evans, Josh Gordon
    TE: Jimmy Graham

I know that I need to get stronger at WR, but not sure what “tools” to use to determine what a fair trade would be.

On my end, I am thinking of using either Rashad Jennings or Terrance West as bait to an owner that has been hit by the RB injuries in week 2. Does that make sense? Would a Rashad Jennings for say Reggie Wayne or a player of that ilk make sense?

Alternatively, I could offer up Jimmy Graham and look to get a WR1 in his place. What do you think of offering Graham for either Dez, Demaryius or Julio Jones?

Appreciate any and all help and opinions.

    1. jdlaw112521-

The best way to determine a good trade (which no tool or analyzer can truly tell you)- is that both teams have to benefit, typically in their starting roster, from the deal AND BOTH owners have to feel a little bit hurt in the bottom of their stomach when the trade is accepted. Everyone has to feel like they gave up a little bit more than they would have liked. You will know it when you encounter it. Of course, when you can- you are always looking to rip someone else off but it doesn’t usually happen under normal circumstances.

We value Graham about as much as those other guys you mention- but his production comes at a bit more of a premium because he is a TE. Maybe, if you have an awesome backup TE you could consider it- otherwise we say hold Graham.

NO we would not trade Jennings for Wayne. You are undervaluing Rashad WAY TOO much probably because of a lack of name recognition. He is a solid RB1 as long as healthy the rest of the season. West is the guy we would try to move- he has a bye next week and Ben Tate will also be returning. He’s a rookie and often times they hit walls. Trade him while he’s hot. You should offer West + Wallace for a stud. Keenan Allen is also a good target maybe for West straight up- after a slow start. Good luck.

  29. I have McCoy, Ball, Rashad Jennings, and Gore in a PPR league. Would you trade Gore for Gordon? I never really use Gore. WRs are Roddy, Alshon, Patterson, Cooks, Hunter, Terrance Williams, and Hawkins.

    1. xraytakr-

YES -we would do that. Your team is solid and we believe you will be a playoff contender. When Gordon comes back it could put you over the top for a championship run. The depth is nice- but you really don’t need gore. The other 3 are all RB1s. Good luck.

      1. Ok, I tried to get greedy. I proposed Gore and Hawkins for Gordon and Ingram. He countered with Gore and Patterson for Gordon and Ingram. What do you think? I was thinking try again but with Cooks or Hunter instead of Patterson. Would it be ok to go ahead with his trade? Or counter again? Or should I just stick with the 1 for 1 trade?

        1. xraytakr-

You should not do this trade. If he was insisting we’d throw Hunter in. We like the original 1 for 1 trade better. Good luck.

          1. Geez, I declined his trade, and he sent back the Gore and Hawkins for Gordon and Ingram trade. Do your like this one, or the Gore for Gordon trade better? I think he will go for either one at this point, his team is struggling.

  30. PPR league, need one flex and one WR. Bernard Pierce, Kelvin Benjamin, Michael Floyd, Gerhart, and Donald Brown. Also in another PPR league I need one flex, Terrance West, Cordarrelle Patterson, Michael Floyd. Thank you in advance!

    1. tbalkus-

      1. Kelvin + and I hate to say it but I think we give Gerhart one more chance here at home with basically the best matchup of the week. Check back Sunday AM to see our final RB rankings between Toby, bernard, and Donald. Good luck.

    2. tbalkus-

      2. Patterson is the big upside play- West is the safer play. We would sit Floyd. Good luck.

  31. Hi, it’s Terrifik1 again. With Carson Palmer out again this week, do I bench Michael Floyd as a Flex and replace him with Greg Jennings or Trent Richardson? 12 Team Non-PPR?

    1. terrifik1-

It’s incredibly close. So many indicators say it should be TRich- but we hate him and just can’t recommend him. We think you roll with your stud Floyd here at home. The Bears just tore up the Niners secondary. Good luck.

  32. Starting RBs – Joique Bell & Gio Bernard
Starting WRs – Jordy Nelson & C. Patterson
    TE – Larry Donnell
    Flex – T.Y. Hilton

    Bench
RBs – Donald Brown, Andre Ellington, Jeremy Hill
WRs – Keenan Allen, Julian Edelman, Jeremy Maclin, Emmanuel Sanders
    TE – Travis Kelce

    Do you suggest any changes?

    1. Forgot to mention that it is standard scoring.

    2. Forty5ACP-

You have quite a few good players to choose from. We would exchange Hilton for Keenan Allen. We would also put Ellington in over Joique. Wish we could find a way to get Edelman in- unfortunately I don’t think we can. Good luck.

  33. Hey! You passed over me. Trying again.
Need 2 for flexes, 1 pt PPR league:
Golden Tate, Kendall Wright, Andrew Hawkins, Chris Ivory or Khiry Robinson
    Thanks!

    1. mrhomey-

Very tough- this comes down to Tate, Hawkins, Ivory, Robinson.

We will give Tate a spin here in a ppr in a potentially high scoring affair. If Jordan Cameron is out- we would then go Hawkins. If not, we would go with Ivory. Good luck.

  34. .5 PPR league

I need two WR and a Flex
    Crabtree
    Garson
    TY Hilton
    Sanu

    please help

    1. robbaja-

Garcon, Hilton, Crabtree – good luck

  35. PPR league

should I drop Adrian Peterson and pick up Kelce

    1. robbaja-

No- we are holding AP if possible- for now. Good luck.

  36. 12 team standard league, need 2 RB’s and a Flex – Spiller, J Bell, Bradshaw, Gerhart, McFadden, Decker, Cooks and Hilton.

  37. I know the bears are playing a terrible jets secondary so the potential for alshon to break out is there, but since it’s a Monday night game and he could be hampered by the hamstring, would you start him or play Crabtree against a cardinals defense he’s played well against in the past?

  38. I’m wondering the same thing as icepick16. With late starts from Alshon and Knile Davis, can I really trust they will will start/be effective. All my other players start at 1, so if Charles does play, I would he hurt playing Davis. Same with Alshon, if he’s not 100%, is he worth starting over Patterson in a standard league or Hunter, Cooks, or Hawkins in a PPR?

  39. Need ONE for the flex in a non-PPR. Knile Davis, Donald Brown, Gore, Sanders, Lacy, or Robinson. Thanks in advance!
