RosterWatch Week 4 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2017 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Seahawks (Wilson’s team). You will see that the Seahawks’ opponent (OPP) is the Colts in Week 4, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Colts’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the Seahawks, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Colts). In the “OPP vs. QBs” cell for the Seahawks, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Russell Wilson faces the best possible matchup for opposing QBs in Week 4 in the Colts. This is a great indicator for owners of Wilson or those thinking of rostering him in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

COLOR-CODES
(you like blue matchups best)

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
WHITE: Neutral Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

  1. Rivers and Palmer are not on the WWCS – I notice River’s higher in ranks. Do you lean that way – need upside. Playing the owner of Elliott, Hunt, Rodgers, Diggs, TyFreak, Reed, etc. etc….

Other names would be guys below that, your cutlers, goffs, daltons, etc. Thanks.

    1. Yeah, I like Rivers and Palmer over the WWCS guys.

  2. Match-up tool favors Tarik Cohen, but it’s hard to sit D. Murray after last week and get burned again. So which one would you choose in 1pt PPR? Would you replace C. Carson with either in the FLEX?

    1. Cohen is a very safe play in PPR. This is a tough call. Keep an eye on our positional rankings, as we update them- as well as Trahmans’s flex ranks on Fri. Those are 3 great options, not sure you can wrong either way.

  3. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

Need to fill my two WR slots and a flex. Considering:

Mike Evans, Michael Thomas, Keenan Allen, TY Hilton, Joe Mixon.

I’ve gone with Evans, Thomas and Allen for two weeks straight, but I’m a little put off by Evans’ less-than-stellar matchup. I drafted him with my first round pick for a reason, but do I abandon that for a better matchup like Mixon?

    Thanks.

    1. Always, check our positional rankings first- then leave the flex question for this forum and /or Trashman’s FRI flex rankings.

In this situation, I think you can consider Mixon over Evans- it’s an expert maneuver- but it makes a lot of sense if you’re in the know. You have to have some onions, but I think it prob sounds riskier than it is.

  4. Just wondering if it is worth having Andrew Luck on the bench. Thinking it might be better to stash an upside RB like Corey Clement. Thoughts? Thank you!

    1. Close call- depends on your roster needs. Luck can be dropped if necessary- but Clement is a nice to have , not necessarily a must.

  5. Based on match ups, would you flex somebody like JC or Buck Allen who seem to have better match ups over Martavis Bryant? Or is that getting too cute?

    1. not Buck- maybe JC. That’s worth a though.. Stay tuned. Also check Trash’s flex ranks on Fri.

  6. Post By gr8one_22@hotmail.com

For my Flex, I have Diggs in right now only because of the matchup Crabtree has, but I could also put in Mixon. So who should I go with? Diggs, Crabtree, or Mixon?

    1. Will be Diggs or Mixon -wait for Trash’s FRI Flex Rankings

  7. I need some help. Fairly competitive league.
6pt touchdown, -2 interceptions, -1 sack for QB, PPR

Start QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, W/T, Flex, 6 bench

    QB/ Rivers.
    WR/ Green, K. Allen, B. Cooks, T. Hill, Garcon
RB/ Hunt, B. Allen, Lynch, D. Henry, Smallwood, Charles, West (Handcuff, if I drop him he will be gone.)

First, should I stay the course with Rivers? He got a whooping 1.4 pts last week Taylor, Smith, & Cutler all still on wire. Do I drop Rivers for them or someone else?
Second, Who else do I start this week with Hunt at RB?
Third, would you agree it makes most sense to start 4 WR with these RB?

    Thank you

  8. I trade Gurley for Dalvin Cook and Gronk? Thoughts. I lost Olsen

  9. Hey guys, just listened to the podcast and was wondering what you think about me trying to trade away my Alshon Jeffery and either Tevin Coleman or Derrick Henry and getting Christian McCaffrey? I might try to have the owner throw in like a Rishard Matthews. If i can’t get another piece with McCaffrey do you think I should pull the trigger or am i giving up too much? Thanks guys. Its a full ppr league with 0.25 points per carry.

  10. Have a trade where I get Amari Cooper and give up J Crowder and D. Funchess. PPR

  11. I am not doing very well this year in my leagues Yahoo is 0-3 and ESPN is 1-2. In my ESPN team, I have both David Johnson and Eifert. Should I hang on to those two or should I drop? My RB’s are horrible and my Wr’s are great.

RB’s–Mixon, Kerwyn WIlliams, Mike Tolbert, Chris Ivory and David Johnson
WR’s–Dez, Hopkins, Tyreek Hill, Stephon Diggs and Lockett.

Should I try to trade one of the top WR’s for a top RB? The league is a .5PPr 12 team league.

    1. So, when you are in survival mode- you can drop the guys you have to. In a perfect world we would stash both Johnson and Eifert- with much more priority on Johnson. But, it’s not always possible. And, you have to play without remorse.

Yes, you need to make a trade. Did you listen to last night’s waiver and trade podcast? If not, please do.

But, you should be shopping for: Jay Ajayi, and maybe Christian McCaffery, CJ Anderson, or DeMarco Murray. I’d say in .5ppr Marshawn Lynch has a great home schedule coming up after this week- he’s a buy low. You might even sniff around Le’Veon.

Mixon is about to start producing. You gotta hang in for a week or two here.

Diggs is a great sell high right now.

      1. I have a trade offer for above. I would be getting Lynch and he would be getting Hopkins. What do you think??

  12. Post By howardhwang1@gmail.com

Hi guys, 1/2 point PPR. I have a trade offer. I got offered Dez Bryant and I would be giving up Marshawn Lynch. Worth it?

    1. IF you need a WR and are set at RB, it’s fine. If not – keeping Lynch- this week is tough- but 3/4 his next games are home games- where he is very likely to be spending time in the Black Hole by the end zone.

  13. Trade offer: I give DeAndre Hopkins (currently either bench or flex depending Parker, Mixon and CJAnderson)

    I get: Pryor and Cohen.

I am leaning towards no but want confirmation. Most expendable bench spot is Kerse

    1. depends on what Cohen does for your roster – in principle the value is fine, more than fine. But, if you are already deep, and it doesn’t improve your starting lineup, and you don’t own Jordan Howard- does it make sense? Who is the highest upside player here?

It’s either Cohen, if Howard goes down. Or, Hopkins if he and Watson start connecting. Which would you rather take your chance with? I’d prob hold on Hopkins and cross my fingers, but it’s close.

  14. Give: cooks, crab
    Get: Montgomery, hogan
    PPR

I have Evans, Mthomas, Watkins, maclin, Bryant, Martin as bench players.

    Good deal?

    1. Like it

  15. Post By Steelnation1825

Thinking of making a trade offer for either Ajayi or McCoy. Who would be the better long-term option for the rest of this season? Right now my rbs are Howard, Montgomery, Martin, Ingram, and Kamara. Wrs I have are Evans, Hill, Hopkins, Fitzgerald, Jones, Maclin, and Jackson. Is it worth me making a trade also?

    1. Only the fantasy gods can answer that. W/ your team- we’d prob take a crack at buying really low on Ajayi from a nervous owner.

      1. Post By Steelnation1825

Would Ingram and Jackson be to much to offer for Ajayi? Shoud I shoot lower. Thanks for the help. You guys are awesome!

  16. WR Q — need two — Crabtree, M Bryant or J Maclin — CBS assigns the same point total to each in its preview

    1. Check the rankings as we update them from now until game time. There was an update today.

  17. One more WR Q — Mike Evans or Devante Parker

  18. and one RB Q — Would you start Henry, Riddick or Kamara over Lynch this week? 1/2 pt PPR
I am tempted to go with Kamara. thanks

  19. Post By Kenneth Bone's Mustache

    Mixon or Montgomery. Standard.

    1. Love Mixon, but you have to stick w/ TyM on that one.

  20. Got a trade offer: Jordy for Mixon and Garcon. I will be giving up Jordy. I have Martavis, Allen, Shepherd as my other WRs. Thoughts?

    1. It’s a fair offer. I’d need to know who your current RBs are. But, if you need / want Mixon- this is a fair offer.

      1. Thx for the reply. RBs are J Howard, Cohen, t Coleman, Foreman

        1. You could consider countering Coleman + Martavis. But, this is a pretty good deal for your squad.

  21. Post By kkisell@courtsplus.org

Need one for flex, .5 pt ppr. Chris Carson, Lynch or Marquis Lee?

    1. Carson.

  22. As an Ezekiel Elliott owner, are we getting close to a point where I need to make sure I have his handcuff? Is there a good chance he will be suspended during the fantasy regular season? If yes, who is the handcuff? Thanks guys!

  23. .5 PPR
    Smallwood or D Henrey?

    1. Post By Trashmans Fonzanoons

Gotta go Smallwood now that Sproles is out. He should take over that role plus get the touches he was already getting.

  24. Paralysis by overanalysis (and by having so damn many great options thanks to y’all!). I’m starting Wilson at QC, and I ordinarily like to avoid a QB/RB stack in my weekly. Plus, I don’t trust Peter to really stick with Carson the entire game if it’s a runaway. Given that DHop will get his usual wheelbarrow full of targets (and no one knows whether Murray or Henry will be “the guy” this week), I”m leaning towards DHop in flex over Carson/Murray/Henry. I’ll be curious to see how TM weighs in with his rankings, but I love hearing your thoughts outside of rankings. Thanks, as always, for helping me dominate–looking for 4-0 with the middle finger flying!

  25. Guys, I need your help again.

I have Eifert and a 2nd tier TE right now. I’ve been building my bench with potential such as Kamara, Foreman, Cohen to go along w/Hunt, Evans, D. Bryant, & D. Martin, & K. Allen.

The TE spot has been killing me. Someone just dropped Jordan Reed (probably tired of the headache). Would you recommend dropping Eifert for Reed or someone else previously mentioned? Thanks again for your help.

    Jeff

  26. 10 team half point PPR. Would you stream Palmer over Winston and/or Cook over Rudolph this week?

  27. Post By aworrall18@yahoo.com

Very weak at WR after losing A Rob, only have AJG and DT. My RB are Zeke, Cohen, Ingram, Carson, and D Martin. I can only play 3 RB max. What are some good WR to target in exchange for a RB?

    1. Post By Trashmans Fonzanoons

You gotta feel your league out. Shoot for a super swindle first then adjust from there.

  28. Post By chuckcnc@icloud.com

Have you thought of a tool where we can evaluate Corner Backs when making WR start decisions?

    Thanks!

  29. A little worried about starting Big Ben this week @ Balt. Should I drop RB Charles and Stewart to pick up Rivers to start this week & Alfred Morris in case Zeke’s legal case goes against him Monday?. My other RBs are Bell, Zeke, Fournette, Martin.

  30. I need 2 of 3. Diggs, Hogan and mixon.

    1. Post By Trashmans Fonzanoons

I would go Hogan and Mixon. Diggs could see a lot of Slay this week.

  31. PPR, two flex spots…CJ Anderson, Pierre Garcon, and Sammy Watkins?

  32. Great stuff guys.

    Start/Sit

    Winston or cousins
    Deshawn Jackson or Crabtree
    J. Graham or j. Cook

    Thank you.

  33. SORRY. Forgot a player

    Start/Sit

    Winston or cousins
Deshawn Jackson or Crabtree or buck Allen in flex
    J. Graham or j. Cook

    Thank you.

    1. cousins, jackson, graham

  34. Trade question:

I would trade Doug Martin and get Isiah Crowell.
It’s a dynasty league full PPR.

    THANKS for your help.

Also tonight start Howard or Montgomery?PPR

  35. Wentz , or Eli 6 pt tds

  38. ?: there is a guy in my league that sits at 0-3 and his team stinks. He needs players. I am 2-1 with a good team. I have Carr but I think I can get Aaron Rodgers from him. Something like a 2 for 1 deal or 3 for 2. My team is:
    Carr
    Hunt
    Ajayi
    D Parker
    M Thomas
    A Jeffrey
    Bench
    CJ Anderson
Jamaal Williams( possibly relevant if Ty is hurt bad)
    Tarik Cohen
    Rishard Matthews
    Jeremy Macklin.

Thoughts on who to offer for Rodgers. Carr and who??

  39. I dunno how you guys do it but you guys never sieze to amaze me. Took your advice from the recent podcast and sold high on Ty Montgomery and got Joe Mixon straight up. Wasn’t expecting Ty to go down so early, but glad I made the trade happen. Now just waiting on Mixon to pile on the carries and hopefully tds! Thanks RW!
