RWi The Week 10 Trade Exchange

The Week 10 Trade Exchange
Byron Lambert, Rosterwatch

The trade deadline hits in about the next week for most fantasy leagues. We’ll make sure and try to squeeze a final eleventh hour edition in before the trade clock strikes midnight.

For this week, it’s a long-run buyers market. Guys that I can’t promise will offer immediate help, but a talented bunch that you can expect to show up big somewhere along the home stretch.

Only two sell-high candidates caught my eye this week and they are a bit atypical. So, they don’t get their own section. Mikel LeShoure is a good player that has been limited by the Lions offense. While he does offer upside, I think the writing is on the wall. LeShoure is a 5-10 point guy most weeks. That range might creep up to 12 points as we move forward. On the heels of a three touchdown, 25-fantasy-point monster where he split touches with Joique Bell and only amassed 70 yards, I advise that you SELL, SELL, SELL. Sell high, of course. I’d like a WR2 in the Miles Austin, Mike Wallace, Denarius Moore range. Or, as always you could throw LeShoure in as the honey on a package deal for a premium player.

Rookie Doug Martin gets his own paragraph. He’s shot right out of a cannon just like a muscle hamster would. I picture him with goggles and a scarf. Martin has only scored single-digit fantasy points twice this season and he’s had back to back raging monsters. Last week’s performance was one of the very best in the 50 year history of fantasy football (1962). Over his last four games, Martin is averaging a silly 30 ppg and he is incredibly consistent. You say why in the world would you trade him then?

Because nobody is untouchable.

When a player’s value is inflated it’s always time to look at a possible sale, no matter how good they are. We are now strictly trying to accumulate additional equity for our starting lineups when we can. Martin, at this point, should require a king’s ransom in exchange for his fantasy services. The deal has to be a great one, but I think that opportunity exists right now.

The fact is, Martin isn’t the 51 point guy he was last week and he’s not even the 33 point guy he was the week before that. Nobody is. I think Martin may have Arian Foster value right now which is astronomical- and it’s worth a feeler. I’d say it’s pretty likely somebody would bite on a Martin for LeSean McCoy + Denarius Moore/Miles Austin type of trade. If I was a Martin owner I would do that instantly.

Week 10 “Buy Low” candidates:

Jamaal Charles, RB KC
He’s really cooled off with three single digit games in a row. I’m not sure if it’s his surgically repaired knee and all the carries he got early or if it’s his crappy team. Like most things in life it’s probably a little bit of both. Still, Charles is a crazy X-factor and I like buying low on him this week when his owners look down and see that he plays at Pittsburgh. The truth is his schedule from Week 11-16 is amazing. This kind of move could bring a title home.

Hakeem Nicks, WR NYG
I’m starting to get worried that his prolonged presence on this list is telling us something. I can admit that Nicks doesn’t look quite right out there. I can’t help myself though. I love him. We know the Giants are going to heat back up down the stretch. Nicks has scored 6 points or less in seven games in a row now. His owners have to be freaked out. I like his monster upside in my roster as a flex on any given week. That is a really scary thought. Keep in mind that you will still have to fade his Week 11 bye and his status for Week 10 is growing less and less certain with new swelling in the knee.

Victor Cruz, WR NYG
He’s been much better than his aforementioned teammate. I like him for the same reasons. It’s a much longer shot you get a good deal on Cruz. But, if any time is good to try, it’s now, on the heels of back to back single-digit fantasy performances. His value has is back down to earth.

Jeremy Maclin, WR PHI
Maclin has been fantasy terrible this year. He has upside, though. You will be relying on Philadelphia straightening this offensive mess out. I’d take a crack at him if I needed a receiver. Benjarvus Green-Ellis stinks and scored a touchdown this week. I’d trade him for Maclin quickly.

Dez Bryant, WR DAL
Who knows what is wrong with this guy. As a fan it’s just plain disappointing. Bryant could be a weekly treat to watch if he could find a way to keep his head in the game. I’m not hopeful. Boasting a pitiful three single-digit fantasy games and an alarmingly apathetic vibe, if you like Dez Bryant this is the time to strike. There is some upside here. I’d do Pierre Thomas for Bryant. Maybe you ship a lower-upside, more consistent guy for the higher upside Bryant to go in your flex as a wildcard. That kind of deal could work for the other owner as well. There is the potential to fill mutually beneficial needs in this kind of deal.

Dwayne Bowe, WR KC
He’s shown in the past it doesn’t matter who throws to him. Bowe has a great schedule the rest of the way, and is bound to pop off for a couple of his signature 20-point games. He’ll deliver a bunch of six pointers in between. You can live with that as a WR2/3

Aaron Hernandez, TE NE
We’ll have to keep an eye on his Week 10 status. If he is out again this week with a prognosis that isn’t too grimm I’d look to pick him up on the cheap as a high upside late season tight end play. Some owners battling for playoff position are going to have trouble continuing to to hold the lame tight end. Hernandez has a meager 27 fantasy points on the season. I’d consider trading someone in the Vick Ballard range for him.

Percy Harvin, WR MIN
He’s been awesome this year so you aren’t going to get a steal. Any discount is a good discount on a premium player. A Week 9 stinker, a bad injury, a doubtful Week 10 status, and a Week 11 bye. If you have the flexibility to wait it out a few weeks this is the time to strike for one of the best players in all of fantasy. Harvin could cement a deep playoff run.

The Darrens
McFadden and Sproles. Both guys could be shaky for at least a week or two. Again, there are some teams that have to win now. They can’t afford these guys on their bench unless they already have good replacement options which is unlikely. See if that is the case with the Darren owners in your league. If so, I’d low ball these guys if I was already on track for a playoff run.

The Foot Sprains
MJD and DeMarco Murray. Exactly the same as I said last week. Both players have been all but ruled out for Week 10 and are still very indefinite moving forward. The price keeps going down.

  1. I have been offered Percy Harvin and Alfred Morris for Chris Johnson and Antonio Gates. I think the trade would be good in a vacuum, but here are some more details: Most importantly, I am 3-6 but only 1 game out of a tie for a playoff spot (at 4-5), so I need to win every week. Here is my team:

    QB-Brady, Schaub; RB-Lynch, J.Charles, CJ, Fred Jackson; WR-Nelson, Bryant, Bowe, L.Moore; TE-Gates, Daniels.

So I have a great TE alternative in Daniels, but both Daniels and Harvin are listed as questionable.

Is this a no-brainer I should take, or am I right to be so concerned about winning this week?

    1. You are right to be concerned about winning this week. Harvin and Morris do you absolutely no good this week, and while I think Harvin MAY play, there are no guarantees about the situation other than Morris NOT playing since it’s a bye for WAS.

Daniels is very iffy to go and that is a Sunday Night Game. It’s a decent offer in theory and I would generally like the trade but at 3-6, your concern is Week 10. Then Week 11, and so on.

      Good Luck-ad

  2. Thanks for the advice! You talked me off the edge. I traded Morris and Harvin in week 2 and have been regretting it ever since. I’m glad I waited to hear from you (and the injury updates, Percy is doubtful now and Daniels seems the same) – Next week will be a challenge with both CJ and Lynch on the bench. Morris would pick up that slack nicely, but c’est la vie… I hope Nelson comes back healthy!

  3. Who would you rather have going into the rest of the season and the playoff run(14-16). Matt Forte, Ryan Matthews, or Jamaal Charles? I have Forte and Matthews and was going to trade one of them + Larod Stephens Howling for Charles and Denver Def, to try and prepare for the Playoffs. It is either that or maybe trade Matthews/Forte and Amendola for AJ Green. (my current WRs are Colston, V Jackson, Calvin Johnson, Amendola and RBs are Matthews, Doug Martin, Forte, MJD and Larod stephens howling). Thanks!

    1. Oh yeah and you start 2 WR 2 RB and 1 flex

  4. I would do Mathews + Howling for Charles for sure. The other moves seem lateral. You don’t need Green. I’d rather see you package Forte and Mathews together for a super stud RB. Or use one of them in a deal for a premium QB if you don’t already own one.

  5. Thanks for the reply! I have RG3 and Josh Freeman which I’m pretty content with. I tried getting Foster or AP (guy has both) with a Forte+WR but he would have none of that!
