Trashman’s Garbage Grab: Week 1

Trashman’s Garbage Grab: Week 1

Trashman 750

It’s week 1 again friends, and with it comes my first batch of dumpster diamonds ready to shine. Chances are your teams are still well intact so early in the season, but you never know when you might need to get a little trashy. These guys are all owned in less than 30% of leagues right now.

Charcandrick West RB, Chiefs: Both Ware and West are going to get action against the Chargers this week with Charles out. And while West is more of a PPR play, he’s jumped ahead of Ware on the team’s depth chart, so he could end up being the best bet for touches for K.C.

Deandre Washington RB, Raiders: Washington is likely to be featured in what should be a high-flying affair with the Saints this week. Should Oakland get down early, he may be the Raiders best bet to mitigate New Orleans’ uptempo offense.

Jesse James TE, Steelers: With the majority of Steeler pass catchers under 6”, James at 6’7” makes for a red-zone lightning rod in week 1. The absence of Markus Wheaton only helps his chances of increased targets as well.

Vance McDonald TE, 49ers: McDonald could end up being the 49ers receiving leader this season, which isn’t saying much, but you have to figure Gabbert is going to lean on him early while he gains his footing as a starter.

Robert Griffin III QB, Browns: RG3 has a lot riding on his first game with the Browns, and he’s one of the few QBs in the league that has the arm and the legs to create fantasy monsters that would make even Cam Newton raise his eyebrows. His floor is low, but his upside is palpable.

Anquan Boldin WR, Lions: Boldin has just as much a chance of scoring as any Detroit WR this week against a hapless Indy defense.

Kenny Stills WR, Dolphins: The matchup is bleak, but Stills going to be a couple big plays away from a fantasy boom as the second option for Miami behind Landry, who isn’t much of a deep threat. With DeVante Parker on the sidelines for the near future, Stills is someone you should roster anyway.

Jermaine Kearse WR, Seahawks: Kearse beat out the upstart Tyler Lockett for the starting position opposite Doug Baldwin in Seattle. In what should be a more pass-happy offense, Kearse has a great matchup against the Dolphins this week.

Brandon LaFell WR, Bengals: No Tyler Eifert and a stingy run defense in the jets make LaFell a prime candidate for heavy targets in week 1.  A.J. Green can’t catch everything.

  1. Need one in each position:
RB – Melvin Gordon or Jeremy Langford?
WR – Corey Coleman, Tavon Austin, or Kevin White?

    Std scoring thanks!

      1. Thanks Tman

  2. Do you think Washington holds more value that Morris for Dallas? I don’t have anyone else to drop to pick up Morris besides DeAndre Washington, Tyler Boyd, or Forsette.

    1. Morris is a necessity only if you’re a zeke owner

  3. You like lafell over Boyd this week?

    1. he’s been playing ahead of him, and he’s ahead on the depth chart, so right now, yes.

  4. Start anquan boldn over Rawls or ware?

    1. i don’t think i could start him over ware this week.

      1. Bold in or Rawls ?

  5. You are complete trash!

  6. Ware, Maclin, or Yeldon in flex spot, 1/2ppr?

    1. yeldon, ivory is out

      1. Yep I saw, wasn’t sure if that puts him over Ware or not considering the Packers defense vs the Chargers poor defense.

        1. i’m just worried about West eating into Ware’s carries. Yeldon doesn’t have that issue.

  7. Boldin or Rawls ppr

  8. Trashman,

Your Flex answers this question but post published info has me debating specifically the Vegas player props. Hurns or Ertz as my second Flex. I’m leaning Ertz but rankings have him behind Hurns. Am I wrong?

    1. i’m just not sure what to expect out of Wentz in his first game. Hurns is safer and has considerable upside.

    10 Team Standard // Start 3

Keenan Allen, D. Moncreif, Marvin Jones, Randall Cobb, Arian Foster, Spencer Ware?

  10. Good copy. Your trash stinks so good.

  11. Wondering where the vulture, Richard Jalen came from. Maybe M Lynch will arrive after all and vulture the vulture.

    1. Not sure where he came from, but he’s around to stay from the looks of it.

  12. What do we freeman/Coleman owners do now? Also, are deandre Washington and lockett droppable? Thanks guys. I’m still trying to figure out this dfs cheat sheet. Any advice?

    1. You could actually start both in plus matchups. if it’s a ppr league, i like Coleman a bit more. in general, i think he’s the future feature back there. My colleagues would likely disagree. Hold Lockett for sure. If there’s someone juicy on the waiver you can drop washington for now.

Would you drop Martellus Bennett for Jacob Tamme in a PPR?

    1. I don’t see Tamme as a huge improvement, but I don’t see Bennett being very useful until Brady returns.

  14. Your advice is always gold RW, but sometimes we have to take a collective hit – the Christine Michael situation turned out to be tough to watch unfold yesterday after sliding him in my flex…should have kept my distance. Like starting off a golf round with a double bogey, it can only get better. Thanks.

    1. Haha, the Trashman was not bullish on Michael if you listened to the Saturday show. If Wilson misses any time, I do think he’s worth flexing.

  15. Drop deandre Washington for riddick?

      1. I just did this. Glad to see you approve.

  16. 12 Team .5 PPR

    [1] QB: Bortles
[3] WR: K. Allen, Maclin, K. Benjamin (D. Jackson, LaFell)
[2] RB: Gurley, McCoy (Henry, D. Washington, Morris)
    [1] TE: J. Thomas (Z. Miller)
    [1] W/R/T: Matt Jones
    Bench total: (6)
    [IR] Eifert

Drop Keenan Allen, Washington, or Z. Miller now for any of V. McDonald, Doctson, R. Kelley, Britt, or Wheaton now before waivers start on Yahoo or wait for the WW cheatsheet?

  17. 10 Team PPR (2 Keeper)

    [1] QB: Brees (Bortles)
[3] WR: Hopkins, Cooper, Evans (Gordon, Diggs, Coleman)
    [2] RB: Gurley, C.J. Anderson
    [1] TE: Kelce (D. Walker)
    [1] FLEX: Matt Jones
    Bench total : (5)

No idea who I’d be dropping for any waiver wire guys on Tuesday but I was in trade talks with another team Sunday who was trying to get Cooper and Bortles from me. He originally offered me Matthews and Hilton but I declined. I was trying to offer him one of my QBs for Matthews or Henry but he wasn’t biting. Now I’m thinking I might be able to buy low on Henry if you are still high on him? Was thinking of offering D. Walker for Henry? Good deal or aim higher?

    His team:
    [1] QB: Carr
[3] WR: Cooks, Decker, Marvin Jones (Hilton, Sanu, Fuller)
[2] RB: Freeman, Ingram (R. Matthews, Henry)
    [1] TE: Ertz
    [1] FLEX: Benjamin

    1. it’s a fair offer, i’m not sure he’ll bite though.

      1. Offer sent and with Ertz’s injury I hope he bites… Thanks a ton for the help brotha!

  18. Sorry for all the roster questions already but managing 5 teams this year isn’t going to be easy!

    12 Team
    PPR
Rushing Yards: 8 yards per point; 8 points at 110 yards
Receiving Yards: 10 yards per point; 8 points at 115 yards
Passing Yards: 25 yards per point; 8 points at 300 yards
    Passing Touchdowns: 6
    Interceptions: -3

    [1] QB: RGIII
[3] WR: OBJ, Cooper, D. Jackson (J. Gordon, Perriman)
[2] RB: Freeman, D. Williams (Rawls, Riddick, Booker, D. Washington)
    [1] TE: J. Thomas (Z. Miller, Eifert)
    [1[ W/R: D. Murray
    [1] W/R/T: Abdullah
    Bench total: (8)
    [IR] Eifert

Glad I drafted so much depth thanks to the cheatsheet while everyone else was drafting two QBs and even two DEF’s but waited til the like last few rounds to draft RG3 so that experiment failed pretty quickly. It’s slim pickings on waivers at QB with Cutler, Flacco, Bradford, Jimmy G, Wentz, Siemian, McCown and Goff being some of the options available … so I’m patiently waiting the WW cheatsheet!

In the meantime, I’m wondering if I should be trying to trade away D. Williams to the Bell owner below who has C. Michael and T. Coleman who are handcuffs I might need? See any good trade opportunities here?

    [1] QB: Brees (Winston)
[3] WR: Floyd, Shepard, Coleman (Wright, Stills)
[2] RB: Elliot, Anderson (Bell, C. Michael, T. Coleman, Lynch)
    [1] TE: Ertz
    [1] W/R: Ingram
    [1] W/R/T: V. Green
    Bench total: (8)

    1. yes, i’d def try to get at least coleman.

      1. Appreciate the guidance as always! Ended up offering D. Williams and Booker for his T. Coleman and C-Mike so now we wait…

  19. Would you pick up any of the following and drop Kevin White in a PPR? If so, what priority?

Tyrell Williams, Jeremy Kerley, Davante Adams, Nelson Agholor, Brandon LaFell, Jermaine Kearse, Quincy Enunwa

  20. I need 2 out of these 3 players ..Melvin Gordon, Derrick Henry and Will Fuller. this is a custom league non ppr. both players would be backups and bye fill ins. thanks

    1. gordon and fuller would be my picks if i had to take them now. i love henry’s potential, but he might not really come on until later this season or until murray gets hurt.

  21. need a QB and flex

    Cousins or Stafford

Cobb, Ryan Mathews or crowell standard league
