Trashman’s Garbage Grab: Week 5

The hits keep coming in FFL, or maybe it’s just my teams that have been bombarded by injury over the first few games of the season. I’m guessing I’m not alone though. But fear not my friends, we’ve got your 30% or less owned dumpster diamonds for week 5 that will lead you to certain victory…or at least make you feel better about losing.

Marquess Wilson WR, Bears: It looks like Chicago could be without Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal this week, leaving Martellus Bennett and Wilson to comprise the bulk of the Bears’ passing game. Opportunity is key here, and Wilson could have a 10+ target day.

Theo Riddick RB, Lions: As of recent, Riddick has looked like Detroit’s most effective back, and that’s not a knock on Ameer Abdullah. Riddick just knows the offense better, and he seems to be playing with an urgency that only a designated 3rd back with limited snaps can. No Joique Bell and the likelihood that the Lions will be trailing the Cardinals most of the game help his cause.

Kamar Aiken WR, Ravens: To me this seems like a no brainer, with Steve Smith Sr. and Crockett Gillmore out for the week. Aiken has proven to be an able pass catcher, if not very dynamic, and that’s all you need to know. Marlon Brown is an even stinkier play, if Aiken is gone, and again you’re just that desperate.

Dorial Green-Beckham WR, Titans: DGB is Marcus Mariota’s primary redzone target, and now they’re saying he’s going to be even more involved in the game plans going forward. An athletic freak with A.J. Green-like field stretching ability, DGB is more of a investment in the future, but that future could start now.

Blake Bortles QB, Jaguars: Don’t look now, but Bortles has more TDs than INTs this season, and he’s only scored less than 20 fantasy points once this season. The key seems to be talent he has around him in the form of the two Allens, and he’ll soon have Julius Thomas to add to that mix. I like him this week and into the future, for fantasy, in a weak AFC south division.

Dan “Boom” Herron RB, Bills: Boobie Dixon will get the start against the Titans, but Herron could end up out touching him as Dixon is reportedly still ailing from a calf injury. It’s a reach, but you could be just that desperate.

Antonio Andrews RB, Titans: Yeah, it’s still a crapshoot in the Titans’ backfield, but Andrews has looked like the most complete back to this point. I don’t know that his straightforward style matches up well with the Bills’ stout defense, but he’s who I’m rolling with.

Cole Beasley WR, Cowboys: The Pats are going to bring pressure to Brandon Weeden’s doorstep, and he doesn’t have Lance Dunbar to dump the ball off to anymore. Jason Witten and Cole Beasley are going to have to make up Weeden’s safety blanket in a game the Cowboys are going to have to score more than a few times in to keep up with Tom Brady and his vengeance.

Jamison Crowder WR, Redskins: Crowder has what looks like one more game before DeSean Jackson returns to take the bulk of targets on the ‘Skins’ receiving corps. An electric player who garnered 12 targets last week, Crowder could have a big day versus the pass happy Falcons.

Derek Carrier TE, Redskins: Not as exciting a play as Crowder, Carrier will still be peppered with targets as the TE position is often looked to in Jay Gruden’s offense, and Jordan Reed is out for the week.

  1. Would you drop Stevie Johnson for Diggs in a PPR. Other WR are cooper, Hopkins, Agholor, and waiting on Dez’s return.

Close call- we’ve been really high on Stevie all year two- but give your WR are stacked- we’d prob roll the dice and do it- Diggs is a stud

  2. Do you like Derek Carrier in DFS for GPPs?

    1. yeah, i’m playing him

  3. Pick 2…Green-Beckham, Pierre Garcon, Leonard Hankerson, Marquess Williams andGolden Tate. Standard scoring. Also, I’m flexing Duke Johnson. Should I replace him with one of the above. Crowder is available.

  4. Jags d/st or Lions? Mariota or Cutler? Thanks for your info. I picked up Hanker d on and Duke last week after reading your garbage picks and won.

  5. I need 1 WR and 1 Flex out of A. Cooper, R. Randle, D. Martin, and Crowell. Other than Randle, none really have great match ups.

  6. Do you like Mike Evans or Leonard Hankerson this week? Mike Evans has been underwhelming so far but has “potential” upside if Jameis were playing better. Hankerson has seemed to do well as the #2 behind Julio.

    1. hankerson is a sneaky play with julio questionable

  7. Currently have Cooper in my wr3 spot (Demariyus and OBJ in the other two spots). Am I crazy to swap him out for Hankerson with Coopers bad matchup and Julio being a little banged up and a weak Washington secondary? Thanks!

  8. I have AP, Hill, Yeldon, Duke Johnson, AJ Green, Cooks, Allen Robinson, John Brown, Ruben Randle, Eifert, Kelce, Cam, and Palmer. 10 team, .5 PPR.

A guy offered me Gore, Dion Lewis, and Demarius Thomas for AP and Green…..or Gore, Doug Martin, and D Thomas for AP and Robinson.

Would you do either of those trades?

    1. I don’t love the idea of taking on Thomas who is definitely suffering due to Peyton’s weak arm. You have enough extra pieces to pair for another back.

  9. I have M. Lynch and J Charles. Would you offer D Thomas for either Gurley or Peterson?

  10. trashman you’re a man among boys
thanks for winning me so much dough every week!

    1. Thanks Frank. I take donations.
