Jason Hill Week 10 vs. Colts

This time last week, I recommended you take a look at WR David Nelson (BUF) if you were sifting the waiver wire for a WR3.

If you listened, you got a 10-pointer out of your WR3 slot, and hopefully compounded on the expected production from the rest of your regular starting roster.  I am not recommending benching a stud here, or doing anything crazy. What I am offering is food for thought if you are strapped at WR.

These are the reasons why I like WR Jason Hill (JAC) this week:

1. The Opponent and the Matchup. The Colts have been the third-best matchup for opposing WRs this season, and the best over the last 5 weeks.  Check out the damage:

Week 9: Julio Jones goes off for 132 and 2 TDs while a slumping Roddy White managed to rack up a better than average 76.
Week 8: Nate Washington goes off for 2 TDs.
Week 7:  Marques Colston- 98 yard, 2 TD monster.
Week 6: A.J. Green goes for 51 and a TD while Jerome Simpson racked up over 100.
Week 5: Dwayne Bowe has his coming out party with a 128-yd 2 TD monster while Steve Breaston had 2 receiving TDs of his own.
Week 4:  Preston Parker comes out of nowhere for a 70-yd 1 TD outing.
Week 3:  Mike Wallace scorches fools for 144 and a TD.
Week 2: They managed to hold a crappy Browns team to a shared 200 receiving yards, with no one player eclipsing 50.
Week 1: Andre Johnson does what he does, 95 and a TD.

2. The speed. Jason Hill is one of a rare few sub-4.3 speed WRs in this league. The issue at the beginning of the season was that he simply couldn’t run routes.

3. The Chemistry. Jason Hill has been receiving the majority of targets recently from Blaine Gabbert, and appears to be the moving into the #1WR role. He is running the right routes, and Mike Thomas just isn’t getting the looks.  There is really no one else to throw to.

4. The Colts Secondary. When the leader and veteran of your defensive backfield is Jerraud Powers (a third year CB who lacks size and anything close to elite speed) you have issues. Add this to the fact that the Colts have had 5 different players make their NFL debuts in that secondary this season. That is a makeshift operation that is primed to be burned by the top end speed that Jason Hill brings.

5. The Trashman likes him. Always a good sign.

6. Both teams are out of contention to win the AFC South, and they will begin testing their younger players and giving them opportunities. I like that for Jason Hill, and for the competition the Colts may roll out against him.
