CJ Fiedorowicz, TE Houston Texans Rookie Fantasy Spotlight
CJ Fiedorowicz took center stage at the Senior Bowl, where he was one of the standout players of the week. We observed a player who at times looked like a “poor man’s Gronk.” Standing next to the man, you realize just how big and tall he is. Mostly though, he reminded us a lot of Heath Miller- a big, physical tight end who can block and catch passes.
When you’re talking about Heath Miller, who by some accounts – including Bruce Arians – is the best tight end in the league, that’s a compliment to Fiedorowicz.
Bill O’Brien told us at the NFL Combine that he planned to get bigger and more physical this year in the trenches. They certainly did so by drafting Jadeveon Clowney, Xavier Sua-Filo, and Fiedorowicz.
The depth chart behind pass-catching tight end Garrett Graham gets a bit cloudy. Fiedorowicz’s prowess as a blocker may earn him some snaps as a rookie where he will also be a sneaky threat to catch passes. As he mentioned in the video above at the Senior Bowl, Fiedorowicz was somewhat frustrated by his lack of use as a receiver in college. Fiedorowicz gave us all indications via his play through the week of Senior Bowl practices that hands and route-running are not an issue. Training camp reports to-date have been positive.
Fiedorowicz is a really nice sleeper tight end prospect in Dynasty Leagues. He’s likely waiver-wire fodder to begin the season in redraft leagues. Don’t count us as surprised, though, if he makes it to the fringe of the fantasy radar at some point in 2014. He’s a deep-league guy worth considering right now as a stash-type option in 1.5 PPR leagues for TEs.
