Dynasty Spotlight: Titus Davis, WR Central Michigan – 2015 NFL Draft
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 190 lbs
40-yard dash: 4.50 (projected)
NFL Comparison: James Jones
Scouting Notes:
Titus Davis doesn’t possess the measurables of some of the more well-known prospects in this year’s draft, and he’s not especially shifty or fast. Yet, somehow he’s managed to be the only player in NCAA history to catch 8 or more TDs every year he’s played. Davis also surpassed former CMU WR Antonio Brown in yards, yards per catch and TDs in his time at Central Michigan (though Brown was there only 3 years). Where Davis excels is his route running. He can execute any route in the tree with polish, and though he’s not a speedster, Davis is quick after the snap – allowing him to get a jump on his defenders and eat up cushion quickly. Davis possesses solid hands too and tracks the ball over his shoulders well, out-angling defenders with body positioning when he can’t beat them with his feet. Davis plays at a professional level already with great body control and leaping ability, but it’s yet to be seen if he has enough acceleration to find the separation needed to beat NFL corners.
Fantasy Outlook:
Measurables are often overrated – Antonio Brown had a 4.56 forty at the combine and looks on-field, during functional game play, like he runs a 4.26. But, teams will probably hold it against Davis. I would be surprised if he was drafted before the 5th round, unless he can muster a faster forty time. His consistency throughout college, with less-than-stellar QB talent at times, will make it awfully hard for teams to ignore Davis for too long, though. He can make an impact on special teams early, and his head for the game will hopefully make up for his speed issues. With his nose for the end-zone, Davis has the acumen to contribute regularly in fantasy. He’s well worth a stash in dynasty leagues, and can be had for late fourth-rounders in rookie drafts currently – or even picked up in first-come-first-served free agency following the rookie draft.
