The Fantasy Fallout Going Into Week 7

Something to read while you wait in line for Star Wars tickets:  The fallout from Sunday and Monday night’s games...

Bengals vs Bills

  • Hue Jackson was being truthful when he said Jeremy Hill was his lead back. Should he keep from fumbling, Hill will remain an RB2 with RB1-upside for the remainder of the season. It makes sense to try and pry him from owners who think he’s a sell-high.

  • Bye-week nightmares might leave WR Marvin Jones on a lot of waiver wires this week. If you have the room, you should add him where you can. He’s going to be up and down, but his highs will outshine his lows.

  • Lesean McCoy looks no worse for the wear after his “breakout” game on Sunday. It wouldn’t hurt for his owners to acquire Karlos Williams, though. He can be gotten much cheaper now than two weeks ago.

Broncos vs Cleveland

  • No QB in the league has thrown as many INTs (10) as Peyton Manning this season. Denver’s smothering defense is the only thing keeping the Broncos afloat, and Manning is negligible in fantasy due to his yard negating turnovers.

  • Ronnie Hillman might have pushed himself ahead of C.J. Anderson with his performance against the lowly Browns run defense, but both will see action going forward in attempt to mitigate Peyton’s squirt gun of an arm.

  • No use holding onto Owen Daniels. He’s going to live and die by the occasional endzone target.

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if Robert Turbin takes Isaiah Crowell’s job over the next couple of weeks. He looks hungry and Crowell isn’t doing much to maintain his role on early downs. Add Turbin if you need the help.

  • Travis Benjamin is starting to get the targets to match the production. He could have some real monsters on the horizon.

Bears vs Lions

  • Alshon Jeffery is back in a major way. Kudos to those who stuck with him through 5 agonizing weeks. He’s a WR1 going forward.

  • Looks like Matt Stafford has had his yearly epiphany where he realizes he just has to throw the ball in Megatron’s vicinity, and he’s more than likely going to catch it. Hopefully his memory stays jogged.

  • Lance Moore might sustain fantasy value in the Lions offense. He’s had 14 targets over the last two weeks, and he and Lions OC Joe Lombardi have a history that goes back to their time in New Orleans.

  • Theo Riddick‘s groin held up Sunday, along with his status as the most effective back in Detroit. Make sure he’s owned in your league.

Texans vs Jaguars

  • No TD for Alex’s Week 6 dark horse Cecil Shorts, but he did get plenty of targets and could be a serviceable flex in plus-matchups.

  • Toby Gerhart and Denard Robinson canceled each other out against the Texans, making either player fantasy irrelevant in T.J. Yeldon’s absence. Gerhart was as lead footed as ever though, and Robinson might have had limited touches in his first game back from injury, so there is yet hope for Denard if Yeldon was to miss again this week.

  • Make sure Julius Thomas is owned, should he have been overlooked in your league last week.

Chiefs vs Vikings

  • Charcandrick West’s first outing as the lead back for the Chiefs was underwhelming to say the least. He’ll get another shot, but his lost fumble won’t endear him to Andy Reid. What’s notable is that he didn’t get a carry inside the 10 yard line.

  • Knile Davis didn’t impress in his limited action either, but he does look like the goal line back, and he has a history of strong game day production. Don’t drop him yet.

  • Albert Wilson stepped in as the go to receiver, after Kelce of course, when Maclin was concussed. He could have DFS and deep-league value if Maclin has to sit out in week 7.

  • Stefon Diggs probably stole Charles Johnson’s job on Sunday with his 7 catch, 129 yd outing. This kid’s the real deal, and could end up leading the Vikings in receiving this year. We told you from the get-go the minute he gets significant reps, he’ll prove he’s the Vikings’ best WR and that’s exactly what he’s done. Diggs should be owned in all formats.

  • It’s disconcerting that A.P. only amassed 60 yds on 26 carries against the Chiefs. I’m not sure he’s as healthy they’re saying he is, and something just appears to be wrong with the balance of the offense in Minnesota.

Redskins vs Jets

  • I find it hard to believe that Kirk Cousins gives the ‘Skins the best chance to win, especially when they’re having trouble moving the ball on the ground. But he looks more like the prototypical QB, so he gets the benefit of the doubt right Jay? – even though he’s arguably been the worst QB in football to this point in the season. Sorry, I just despise Gruden and his antics.

  • Alfred Morris needs a zone-blocking scheme to do his damage, and Washington is moving away from it. His cushy matchup with Tampa might be enough to entice owners to accept him in trades.

  • Zac Stacy did well in his role as passing down back for the Jets. He might be worth flexing in deeper leagues if Bilal Powell misses time.

Cardinals vs Steelers

  • You can’t trust Michael Floyd as far as you can throw him, but he should be a decent play again next week against a beatable Ravens secondary.

  • It’s hard to accurately gauge, as new QBs often look good until teams see game tape on them, but the Steelers looked better with Landry Jones under center than Mike Vick. He should get another week in before Big Ben comes back.

  • Martavis Bryant showed why he was missed so badly for the first quarter of the season with his 137 yd, 2 TD outing against the Cardinals. It goes without saying that you should pick him up if he’s been dropped in your league.

  • Now is the time to trade for Antonio Brown if you think you can get him. This is the lowest his value is going to be all season.

Dolphins vs Titans

  • The new-look Dolphins are committed to the run, if nothing else. Lamar Miller may live up to his ADP yet.

  • Marcus Mariota has a sprained MCL and could miss multiple games. I actually don’t hate this for fantasy, as Zach Mettenberger is immobile and has a cannon of an arm, so Titans WRs could put up some big numbers while he’s gone.

Panthers vs Seahawks

  • Cam Newton looks matchup-proof for the time being, and he should be treated as such in your lineups.

  • In what was probably the game you decided to sit Jonathan Stewart, he finally went off. It’s good to know he’s still an effective back, even up against the worst RB matchup in football. What’s even better is that he wasn’t spelled in the redzone.

  • Hopefully Russell Wilson has now realized that Jimmy Graham is his best option in the air. It might be smart to sell high on Graham now in any case, as he might be up and down all season.

Chargers vs Packers

  • Philip Rivers is the 17th QB to put up a 500+ yard game, and he could continue to put up sky high numbers as long as Melvin Gordon is stinking or in the doghouse.

  • Eddie Lacy is fat and possibly hurting. It would be smart for his owners to pick up James Starks, until we suss out what’s going on here.

  • Randall Cobb’s bad shoulder is showing up on his stat sheets. Hopefully the bye will help him out, but he’s not a must-start at this point.

Ravens vs 49ers

  • It’s pretty bad when a 36 year old man with a broken back is your best receiver. I actually think the Chris Givens signing might be a boon to the WR corps though.

  • Anquan Oldin(not a typo) is going to lead the 49ers in receiving. He’s single-handedly saving Colin Kaepernicks’s job. Sorry, Torrey Smith owners – the production you’re going to get is going to be off-and-on at best.

  • It was nice knowing you, Vernon Davis’ fantasy relevance…

Patriots vs Colts

  • I was this close to putting Danny Amendola in the garbage grab on Saturday, but I had too many guys in already. Should have gone with my gut. That being said, Brandon LaFell is returning soon, and I think Vontae Davis covering Julian Edelman had much to do with Danny’s big day.

  • No there wasn’t a changing of the guard in New England’s backfield. Lewis played more snaps than Blount, but his injured abs hampered his play.

  • To all you owners who picked up Andre Johnson and played him after his revenge game antics last week – SIKE!

  • Ahmad Bradshaw will get more involved as the season wears on. He’s a hold for another week or two.

Giants vs Eagles

  • What a hot mess the QB play was in this game. I don’t know that Bradford is going to be the guy we thought he was this season.

  • Jordan Matthews’ shine has been dulled down to a matte finish. Nelson Agholor is a strong bet to take the No.1 option reigns over the next half of the season. The Eagles receiving corps minus Agholor simply seems devoid of explosive playmakers.

  • Zach Ertz was second in targets for Philly on Monday night. He makes for a reasonably strong play in Week 7  against the Panthers who gave up all the yards to Jimmy Graham on Sunday.

  • The Giants totally mismanaged Shane Vereen in the passing game (again), where he would have been able to exploit the Eagles’ weak linebackers. If you can’t trust him for fantasy production in this game, when can you trust him?

  1. Standard league
    Eli, rivers
Ap, Latvious, d Martin, Rick west, Matt jones, Rawls
Megaton, aj green, smith sr, Snead

I was offered a trade to receive Arian foster, Ty Hilton, Carr for d Martin, rivers, megaton

Do it, or don’t do it

    1. I wouldn’t. Rivers is going to keep putting up big numbers, and i think megatron is going to have a second half surge. it’s close, but i would pass, unless he’ll take eli.

      1. any thoughts from Byron?

    2. I would gladly trot out a starting line-up that consists of Ap and Foster at rb, with Hilton, Aj Green and Smith Sr at wr. Megatron is clearly on the downside and has yet to battle that nagging knee injury that seems to plague him every season. Losing Rivers hurts, but I like the idea of rotating Eli and Carr based on match ups.

  2. Thank you for the previous March, 2015 article on Stefon Diggs. Two weeks ago, I had never heard of this guy. I paid the $2.99 subscription fee and immediately read up on your older pre draft articles. Everything that you wrote about Diggs made perfect sense to me. I picked him up in all 3 of my dynasty leagues. Fast forward, two games later, I have gotten multiple trade offers for him in every league. Unless someone is willing to grossly over pay for him, he is not going anywhere. You guy’s know your stuff and you may have guaranteed me a playoff spot in two of my season long dynasty leagues. I cannot wait until next year’s rookie draft.

    1. I highly recommend following them during the actual draft. You would have had more insight on Diggs. The Ravens screwed up by getting means instead of Diggs or he would have already had much better production. Read their insights during proday too. Go back and look at their spreadsheet on him. I wish the Ravens would hire them just for WR scouting as additional consultants.

      1. haha thx minion – we would have probably told them to take Perriman, so you can feel good about that. : )

    2. marman – we live have more dynasty information coming this season than you know what to do with. Plans are in the works for the biggest RW Pro Day Tour to date.

  3. Post By #9#9#9iburiedpaul

    Team Name: Championship Squad
    Record: 4-2
    PPR

    QB: Eli, Bortles
RB: Leveon Bell, Devonta Freeman, Dion Lewis, CJ Anderson
WR: Brandon Marshall, Emmanuel Sanders, Dez Bryant, Stevie Johnson, Leonard Hankerson
    TE: Barnidge, Ebron

I need help at QB. I have two offers on the table: Dion Lewis and Leonard Hankerson for Cam Newton, or Lewis, Barnidge and Eli for Big Ben. Thoughts?

  4. Am i crazy to maybe stream the Falcons def over the jets I have or a few others I could get off waivers? Thanks for the Diggs tip a few weeks ago, helped me greatly last week!

    1. No, I wouldn’t want to start anyone against the Pats. Miami makes for a decent play too.

  5. K. Davis or Turbin as a RB4 for rest of year – standard. Sounds like Turbin per above.

    1. that’s hard. KC has a less convoluted backfield, and Davis should get goal line carries and maybe more after West’s fumbling. Turbin may surpass Crowell, but he’ll still have Johnson to deal with. I might lean Turbin since he’ll be less TD dependent.

  6. Will you please discuss during the show what happens to DST performance in general for London games. Does anything weird happen (like all teams DST improve or or does it go up or down compared to the rest of the season) or is there an exploitable pattern in the limited data? Your work on the cockamami idea that Steve Smith Sr had very good production when playing prime time games after coming off a bye really nailed it last year almost exactly (decimal point off). Maybe their might be something there maybe not, but it might help steamers. I would love to hear you discuss this during the show Saturday.

    1. I’ll look that up for you minion.

      1. Thanks Alex!

  7. 12 team full point ppr league. We must start 2WRs and can start a 3rd WR in the flex. However, we can only roster a maximum of 4 WRs and have to drop a WR in order to pickup a WR off waivers.

Current WRs: AJ Green, Brandon Marshall, Steve Smith Sr, and Allen Hurns

Some WRs available on waivers are Travis Benjamin, Michael Crabtree, and Stefon Diggs. Do you like any of these 3 WRs more than Allen Hurns for the rest of the season as a 4th WR?

    1. I like Benjamin for sure and maybe diggs.

  8. Got a trade offer, and could use some help analyzing…

    Standard 12-team dynasty league

Offer: Cobb and Karlos Williams for Marvin Jones and Sammy Watkins

    My team:
    QB – Rivers
WR – Hopkins, Watkins, Marvin Jones, Hurns, Smith Sr., Perriman, Diggs
RB – Jamaal Charles, L. McCoy, Doug Martin, David Johnson, Ryan Mathews
    TE – Bennett

Im in 3rd place with a 4-2 record all thanks to your fantastic advice so far.

    1. I’d do it. Makes sense to back up McCoy, and Cobb should get healthier with the bye week.

  9. Standard league. WRS: Cobb, K Allen, Robinson, J. Brown, Mike Evans, Jordan Matthews. RBS: Lev Bell, Foster, Hillman, C West (lost Jamall). Should I drop West or J Matthews for Diggs (or Rishard Matthews)?

  10. Sounds crazy but maybe matthews

  11. Week 7 Waiver Wire Cheat Sheet – when I click the download, it goes to a link for “Download RW Insider”. Sorry, but I can’t find the waiver wire download. I didn’t have any issues with this the first 6 weeks. Thoughts/suggestions?

  12. Roster Breakdown and my thoughts: We have 9 starting positions, 5 bench spots and 1 IR spot. Max of 6 players at WR and RB postions

    My roster
    Brady
Gore, Lat. Murray, Hill, Martin, David Johnson
OBJ, Marshall, Dez (IR), Moncrief, Davante Adams, Dwayne Harris
    Julius Thomas
    Panther D
    Matt Bryant

Sefarin-Jenkins is available and I like his upside and schedule moving forward and to cover for Thomas next week, however not willing to drop Thomas.

Dez is now Doubtful because of Jerry Jones’ loud mouth and I need to move him from IR.

Would you agree that Dwayne Harris is useless (picked him for this past week with OBJ news) and that of my RBs David Johnson would be the one you drop?

Lastly, you comfortable running out Panthers D each week or do I try to stream that position?

    Thanks.

    1. agree harris is useless. agree on johnson. love holding on to Carolina and giving up streaming but I don’t love them this week w/ O/U so high in the game. in general, will say stick w/ CAR, though.

  13. Painful bye week for me. For my RB2, do I start Ameer Abdullah or Theo Riddick?

  14. Since losing Jamaal Charles my RB crew has played admirably. I have the following on my roster and am thinking about trading one for a little WR depth.
    C. Ivory
    L. Miller
    J. Stewart
    GIO
    T. Riddick
    C. Sims
    K. Williams
Was gonna offer JSTEW for Jarvis Landry? Want to know your thoughts and if you would try to sell high on another back to target a different WR? My WR’s are:
    J. Edelman, Alshon, Mike Evans, W. Snead, Hankerson and Lafell.

    Thanks guys!

  15. Need some help at RB. Standard scoring, 12 teams. Who would be a good RB to receive for selling James Jones high? Could probably get Edward Lacy…

RBs: Arian Foster, Joseph Randle, C.J. Anderson (BYE), Karlos Williams

WRs: OBJ, Steve Smith Sr., James Jones (BYE), Stefon Diggs, Jordan Matthews

    1. Trashman will think it’s crazy but I think Jones is a prime sell-high target. We think Lacy is too fat this season but he’s going to get going here soon. Maybe another option could be Lamar Miller. GL.

  16. Also, I’m in 2nd place. 5-1 record thanks to you guys! Pro subscription totally worth it.

    1. we appreciate the support brother.
