Scouting Notes: Tall, strong and fast, Cody Core is a deep-ball specialist who averaged 23 yards a catch at Ole Miss. You probably haven’t heard of him largely due to the fact that he shares the field with LaQuon Treadwell. Core isn’t only useful over the top, though. He’s an excellent blocker as well — something you don’t see a lot in deep-threat WRs (which Core certainly is). His combination of strength and speed allows him to break coverage with ease, though he isn’t an especially shifty player. He also boasts some of the largest hands we saw on a WR at the combine with almost ten and a half inch mitts.
In addition to his on-field capabilities, Core has shown strength of character off it after losing his mother at the beginning of his junior year — which ended up being his breakout. We’ll get a better look at Core during Ole Miss’ Pro Day. Core finished favorably (11th place) in our RW On-Field Workout Score Rankings from Inside Lucas Oil.
Fantasy Outlook: Core is a playmaker waiting to happen. His ability to block should allow him to get on the field sooner than later, too. A hard worker who started his collegiate career as a two-star recruit before getting a scholarship at Ole Miss, Core seemingly has the work ethic to become a solid contributor on an NFL team. He’s got potential to take the league by surprise as a player who hasn’t rested on his innate athletic ability, instead continuing to improve throughout his career through adversity. He’s worth a flyer in your dynasty league with real upside depending on the situation he falls to.
