RosterWatch Week 1 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2021 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own 49ers RB Raheem Mostert, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the 49ers (Mostert’s team). You will see that the 49ers’ opponent (OPP) is the Lions in Week 1, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Lions’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the 49ERS, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the LIONS). In the “OPP vs. RB” cell for the 49ers, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Mostert faces our best possible matchup for opposing RBs in Week 1 (the Lions). This is a great indicator for owners of Mostert (as well as rookie backfield-mate Trey Sermon), and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering them in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference. The Vegas lines are updated hourly for your reference and research. Please note that matchup ratings can change slightly through the week as lines and totals shift.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

  1. .5ppr/Trade Question: The Etienne owner in our league has Javonte Williams. I own Melvin Gordon. Should I offer him my Melvin Gordon for his Kareem Hunt? Or I could offer him my Darrell Henderson for his Javonte Williams?

    1. The Melvin Gordon for Kareem Hunt is the better deal for you. As you will then have 2 RBs you can use in a flex in Henderson and Hunt. Only problem with Gordon & Williams together is you will need one of them to go down/earn the lion share of the carries for fantasy value. Make the Gordon for Hunt trade.

    2. Would love to do Javonte for Henderson in dynasty- but I think I’d stay put in re-draft. I’d rather have Gordon than Hunt

  2. Who would you guys play.
    CD Lamb or Julio?
As per the match up tool and your rankings I should probably go with Julio. Thoughts..

    1. Prob Lamb

  3. 12 team ppr. I was 12 pick in draft and light in RBs . With the Leveon bell knews do you think it’s wise to pick him up?
    My rbs:
Aaron Jones, saquon Barkley , and Michael carter

    My wrs:
Julian Jones, tee Higgins, antonio brown, Sutton , will fuller mecole hardman, Marquez brown, Elijah Moore, and rahndale moore

    1. If there is nobody else you could grab Bell- I’d rather have Justin Jackson, Gio Bernard, JD McKissic right now. Maybe even Gainwell.

  4. was just offered najee harris & courtland sutton for my saquon barkley. I already have jerry jeudy. should i do it? or try to get debo samuel, russell gage, or marquez callaway?

    1. I’d probably do it for Deebo-

  5. RBs: Aaron Jones, David Montgomery, Mike Davis, Raheem Mostert, Michael Carter,
WRs: Stefon Diggs, Julio Jones, Ja’Marr Chase, Antonio Brown, DJ Chark

Need to start 2 RBs, 2 WRs, and 1 Flex. I am going to start Aaron Jones and Raheem Mostert as my RBs and Stefon Diggs and Julio Jones as my WRs. I am torn at the flex. Mike Davis has a good matchup, David Montgomery matchup is terrible, and my remaining 3 WRs all have good matchups. Obviously, I have to watch Antonio Brown’s knee injury plus he plays Thursday night. Initial thoughts?

    1. I’d play Mike Davis in a good matchup. Then decide b/t Brown and Montgomery. Monty is prob the safe play. If Godwin is out – watch out for AB though. Great options!

  6. Ppr league
Terry McLaurin, Miles sanders or Tyler Lockett need one

    Another ppr league need one
Damien Harris, Cortland sutton, Tyler Boyd, or chark

    Thanks!

    1. Play the matchups! Probably Sansders though! Trashman’s flex rankings will be up tomorrow!

      Probably Harris, maybe Boyd

  7. Post By pgentzlinger@gmail.com

.5 ppr league, looking for a flex. Damien Harris or Antonio Brown.

    Thanks!

    1. Proabably Harris

  8. .5 PPR, just got offered CEH & Claypool for James Robinson. Reasonable offer. Team looks like this.

    RWilson
    CMC
    Robinson
    Julio
    Thielen
    Fant
    Montgomery

Bench is Jeudy, Dillon, MCarter, Pittman & Gio

    Thoughts?

    1. Good deal, take it. You’re receiving the better RB in the deal and a WR who will add depth for your team.

      1. Thanks Ani!

    2. Do you really need Claypool? I’d pass

    3. Tell this rusty nail to come better… pass!

  9. Post By HuntN4BeastMode

Is Michael Carter droppable? Would I rather have Coleman or Johnson? Would I rather have T. Lance or Carter? 2Qb league but have Allen, Ryan and Tua…

    1. 2QB league I might prefer Lance to Carter- depends on the state of your RB position. I would not drop him for the other Jets RBs.

  10. 1/2ppr 10 teams. Sermon was just dropped. Anyone worth dropping to pick him up?
    Drake, Michael Carter, Singletary.
Also, Mooney and Callaway, but am a little thinner at WR.
    Thanks!

    1. Michael Carter is worth dropping for Sermon. That’s the move to make.

    2. I’d rather drop a WR.

  11. My Sutton for Sermon, is that giving up too much?
My other wr’s Metcalf, Diggs, Lamb, J Jones, Higgins, M Callaway, Landy..
I have a solid WR group, but super thin at RB Barkley, and Carter are my starters, with Bernard and Hubbard on my bench. This team was auto drafted for I was on a plane to the Philippines, and the assholes wouldn’t change the date of the draft.
Thoughts and possible trades I could make.. No one had been willing to bite on any of my trade offers..

    1. That’s not terribly unfair- however Sermon may not solve the issue right away. I’d rather go after Melvin Gordon who is undervalued rn…. Sutton wld be a fair price there too

      1. A bit of the tradecast early… fuck ya. Start fast and win this cockamamie shit!

Need 2 flex spots, 1 pt ppr

    AB
    Mike davis
    Hollywood brown
    Claypool
    Damien Harris

    1. Prob Harris and Davis, maybe AB

      1. AB is going to be a tough call every week!

  13. I’m super high on Javonte Williams, and my league mate knows it. He just offered me Javonte and Chark for Kupp. 12 team full PPR league. We start QB, WR, RB, 3 flex. Thoughts?

QB: Tannehill, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones
WR: AJB, Keenan, Kupp, Sutton, Pittman
RB: Chubb, Mixon, Hendo, Stevenson, Pollard

I hate rostering 2 QBs, let alone 3. But I got stuck with Burrow (not a fan) on draft day and picked up Wilson immediately post draft. Then the next day I jumped all over Jones once the news broke. Then I packaged Burrow and Callaway for Tannehill. I’ve been busy in the last week and a half.

IDK, I love Kupp, and I was fully committed to the Minshew/Chark stack early last year until it got me in an 0-2 hole. So I have a little pent up bitterness with Chark. But I feel like Javonte might be too good to pass up on.

    1. I think you can do it if you want to- you can prob live without Kupp.

    2. Aj brown situation seems murky why?
I wouldn’t have made the first deal and pass on this one as well.

      1. Thank you Frank Grime! You are the best! Glad to see you back for another season, hope life is treating you well!

As an eckler owner , how much fab would you bid on Jackson ? Or is roundtree the sneaky move ?

    1. Zero bid Rountree if you have space but don’t over react yet.

  15. Post By Longhornfireman

Standard league, I’ve got both Gus Edwards and Adam Theilen, which should I start as week 1 flex?

    1. I’d roll the Bus!!!!

  16. Thoughts on Dyami Brown with Samuel dealing with an injury?
Any interest in Kadarius Toney with Judge saying he should have an immediate role?

    1. Yikes- yeah I’d prob prefer Toney to Brown but Broncos are no joke of a matchup. Neither are the Chargers though! Both are total Hail Mary plays

  17. Made a rookie draft mistake (facepalm) 12-man, .5 PPR, I drafted 7th. Round 1 picked up Chubb, rounds 2 and 3 went WR, Round 4 saw the next guy in my list, not even thinking about it drafted Hunt… realized it about 30 seconds after I did it.
Now I’m having a hard time trading Hunt away. Is it ok to play both Chubb and Hunt? Other RBs are : Zack Moss and Giovani Bernard

  18. You can play them both, it’s not ideal- but for a team that will be at the top of the league in rushing and has the best OL in the league- you can get away with it with those two. People see you have no leverage and are lowballing you right now, wait for them to have an RB injury – their tune will change.

You could also flip this thing on it’s head- and shop Chubb instead of Hunt.

  19. Good morning I am in a 12 team ppr and light on RBs
Have saquon, Aaron Jones and Michael carter

    I have 9 wrs
Should I drop Elijah Moore and rahndale Moore for players like Justin Jackson or Tony Jones jr?

    1. Man I don’t know how you ended up with 9WR but yes you can drop those guys for depth RBs although we love them. Definitely Jackson since it’s looking iffy for Ekeler this weekend.
