RosterWatch Week 1 Matchup Tool Now Available
Welcome back.
This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community.
It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.
DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.
The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only traditional “fantasy points against” metrics (schedule-adjusted after 3 weeks of play), but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2022 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow/pace, sportsbook indicators, volume of total projected snaps and much, much, more.
…
INSTRUCTIONS:
To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.
Let’s say you roster Colts RB Jonathan Taylor, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.
First, look down the list and find the Colts (Taylor’s team). You will see that the Colts’ opponent (OPP) is the Houston Texans in Week 1, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”
These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the TEXANS’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.
They are not the rankings for the COLTS, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the TEXANS). In the “OPP vs. RBs” cell for the Colts, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means that Taylor faces our best possible matchup for opposing RBs in Week 1 (the Texans). This is a great indicator for fantasy managers of Taylor – as well as fellow backfield-mates like Nyheim Hines, and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering them in DFS contests.
Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.
With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: Vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference. The Vegas lines are updated hourly for your reference and research. Please note that matchup ratings can change slightly through the week as lines and totals shift, or as injuries to key defensive personnel occur.
1 is the best (easiest) matchup, 32 is the worst (toughest).
COLOR-CODES
(you like blue matchups best)
BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
WHITE: Neutral Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

Would you drop Khalil (as a Montgomery owner) and Eno Benjamin to stash Brian Robinson or Jaylen Warren?
If you have an empty IR spot could be worth picking up Robinson and placing him in that IR spot and then you won’t have to drop a bench position player. Hold Herbert.
I am holding K. Herbert at all costs. He may have an early role and be the one injury away player.
10 team standard. We keep 4 players, but 2 have round restrictions. Keeping Lamb, Keenan Allen, Montgomery, and Akers this year. Have first pick tonight and after keepers off the board, I’ve narrowed it to Dalvin or D’Andre Swift. Would you scoop up Dalvin there or does the benefit of getting multiple years out of Swift make Swift the better pick-up? Because of the round rules, I’d be able to keep Lamb, Akers, and Swift next year, but could only keep two of those three thereafter.
I’d go with Swift for the reason you suggested, and who knows if Cook stays healthy for the only season you’d have him.
Trashman nailed it.!
.5 PPR 12 team
Was just offered Aj Dillon for my Rashaad Penny? Would you take it? I would get both handcuffs for lead backs but lose general flexibility.
QB: Kyler
Wr: AJ brown
Wr: Courtland Sutton
RB: Dalvin
RB: Aaron jones
TE: Njoku
W/R: fournette
Bench
Breeze hall
Mattison
Mike Williams
Marquise brown
Rashaad Penny
Julio jones
I would not for this reason: Dillon isn’t a handcuff. He’s a standalone back, and eventually you’ll have headaches about which to start or whether you start both of them. Penny was a top 5 back for a stretch last season. I’d hang tight.
AJ Dillon is a much better bet than Penny. Plus more durable. DO IT!
Half point dynasty need to drop one.
Reagor
Tyler Johnson
Ihmir Smith-Marsette
Amari Rodgers
Ty Chandler (have Cook and Mattison)
Laviska Shenault
Though I agree with Trashman ISM is unlikely to hit, bc the Bears WR core is so bad there is a chance he could emerge. He did have a 100 yard game in the last week of 2021. I love Ty Chandler but he is no better than the RB3 maybe the RB4 to start the season. He could be a drop candidate too. If Alex Mat is traded then he would be a good player to hold.
ISM
I think i read the updated rankings will be out today. But I’m curious who would you guys play. Broncos or Brown. I have the Browns but have the opportunity to pick up the Broncos..
Who would you roster Garret Wilson or George Pickens..
Pickens
Need to drop one for a kicker. 1 ppr. Wan’Dale Robinson or Tyrion Davis-Price?
If you roster Eli Mitchell I’d keep Price. Otherwise a toss up and totally continent upon where you need more depth. I prob lean keeping Wan’Dale in a vacuum just to see- but this is very close. Both of those guys are on waiver wires in a lot of leagues
boys
I have a question for week 1 lineup, I have elijah mithcell as my rb2 i have zeke as my rb1, i drafted chase and deebo in rds 1 & 2 so and pitts in rd 4 i am really worried about zekes matchup against tampa bay would you guys back me putting aj dillon in and benching zeke for week 1, i have burrow as my qb and i have mooney in the flex 1/2 pt ppr
thanks guys
Lone Wolf
No, Zeke’s volume and the fact that it’s a home game keeps him in for me. Tampa finished 6th against the run, which is pretty good, but not great.
Which Wr this week…ppr…Claypool, MVS or McKenzie?
Diontae Johnson looking questionable. I like Claypool here. All 3 are highly volatile
Half point PPR, need a flex from these 3… Metcalf, Bateman, Pierce? Thanks!
Nathan, next year urge your league to add another WR active slot, or at least an additional flex spot. These guys should not be bench players. That said, my preference for W1 is Batemon, Pierce Metcalf
Matt stafford or Tom Brady I have cooper Kupp if that makes a difference
It does make a difference for me. Lets go with Stafford to Kupp for the win baby!
Full ppr and I need 2 flex from this group of 4: Cam, Breece Hall, Jeudy and R Bateman. Lean to the 2 receivers, thoughts? Looking at this lineup a little early because of Cam playing tonight. Thanks guys
You nailed it, brother. The 2 WRs are exactly how I would play it. Good luck!
Last draft of the year .5 Ppr 12 team
WRs flew off the board so ended up a little RB heavy. How’d we turn out?
Qb; Trey Lance
WR: davante adams
WR: Allen Robinson
RB;Aaron jones
RB: cam Akers
Te: irv smith
Flex: Zeke Elliot
Flex: breece hall
Bench
Derek carr
Aj Dillon
Michael Thomas
Treylon burks
Zamir white
Isaiah McKenzie
True on the heavy rb front, but you have a ton of depth and potential trade fodder. Also Thomas and Burks should both outplay their ADPs. McKenzie offers a lot of upside too.
What D would you stream this week? Standard scoring, +2 if team wins. And why are the Chargers ranked so low?
Bears, Chicago
Bengals, Cincinnati
Browns, Cleveland
Cardinals, Arizona
Chiefs, Kansas City
Commanders, Washington
Eagles, Philadelphia
Falcons, Atlanta
Giants, New York
Jaguars, Jacksonville
Jets, New York
Chargers, Los Angeles
Lions, Detroit
Packers, Green Bay
Panthers, Carolina
Raiders, Las Vegas
Seahawks, Seattle
Texans, Houston
Cleveland. Not sure about the Chargers situation. They’re not that low in consensus rankings.
Full point PPR need to pick 2 of the following rbs
Akers
Javonte Williams
Zeke
Edmonds
Also need to flex someone from the remaining running backs or the following
Juju
Gage
Mooney
Woods
Williams and Elliott. I’d flex Mooney
Zeke and Javonte alllll dayy!
Mooney is perfectly fine, I like JJSS a little better, but Mooney is the target monster here
When is the DFS simulator starting up ?
It’ll be up Friday night
Looking at my flex spot full point ppr. Bateman, penny, R Stephenson. How would you roll with this week?
Batemon is a nice play, but if you want to go RB, Penny is in for a big workload
Bateman
standard league, ended up drafting roberts woods and t burks. jakobi myers is on waivers. should i drop one of the titans for myers?
I wouldn’t, Meyers hasn’t shown enough upside to warrant that, but I would seek out potential trade partners.
Myers coming into this game banged up a little. Wait to see how the Ten WR targets are distributed in W1
