Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Heading Into Week 14
Trashman’s Fantasy Fallout Going Into Week 14 of the 2023 NFL Season
It’s a win and get in week for many of us so let’s make the moves that count! Here’s the fallout going into Week 14 of the NFL season…
Seahawks – 35 @ Cowboys – 41
- Zach Charbonnet(20/99/1) had about a good of a game as you could have hoped for against the Cowboys in Arlington before suffering a knee bruise in the 4th quarter. Both he and Ken Walker will get questionable tags this week, but Charbonnet has the better chance to go this week, though it’ll be against the 49ers. If neither can go, DeeJay Dallas would get the start.
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba(7/62) led the Seahawks in targets(11), but DK Metcalf(6/134/3) got all the high yield looks(8). I’d like to say he’s in line for a slew of targets again this week, but the first time the Seahawks played San Fran, two weeks ago, JSN had his lowest target total(3) of the season. I don’t know that there’s enough upside there for me to gamble in the final week before playoffs.
- Michael Gallup seems to be getting fazed out of the Cowboys offense, but Brandin Cooks is thriving. Scoring in 5 of his last 7 games, Cooks is an easy start versus Philly’s terrible secondary in WK14.
Chargers – 6 @ Patriots – 0
- Quentin Johnston(7/52) had the best game of his rookie season, but he still had a mind numbingly bad red-zone drop in the 3rd quarter. He’s not someone you can rely on going into the playoffs, even with a wealth of opportunities.
- Rhamondre Stevenson suffered an ankle injury in this one, leaving Zeke Elliott(22/92) to lead the charge. Stevenson’s x-rays came up negative, but he will probably miss time. Elliott makes for a solid start against Pittsburgh this week and belongs amongst the top waiver pickups this week.
- DeVante Parker(4/64) led the Pats in receiving with Demario Douglas out with a concussion. Even if Douglas can’t go this week, Parker has limited upside on the other end of Bailey Zappe‘s arm.
Cardinals – 24 @ Steelers – 10
- Tre McBride(8/89/1) was the only Cardinal to get more than 3 targets in this one. He’s Kyler Murray‘s favorite target, but you won’t be able to use him this week, as it’s the Cardinals’ bye.
- Kenny Pickett left this game with an ankle injury, leaving Mitch Trubisky to pick up the pieces. It’s a short week so Trubisky will probably get that start against New England. I don’t see much of a difference between the 2 QBs, as they’re both underwhelming, but Trubisky does seem to like George Pickens(4/86) more than Pickett.
- Jaylen Warren(10/55) has slipped back behind Najee Harris(18/77) as the lead back for the Steelers. Barely in double-digit touches on Sunday, he’s not an advisable start this week.
Colts – 31 @ Titans – 28
- Alec Pierce(3/100/1) had his best game of 2023 on Sunday on 6 targets. It seems like he’s getting a little juice these last 2 outings, but he’s literally had only one 50+ yard game this season. I still prefer Josh Downs as an option moving forward.
- Tyjae Spears(20/88) took over the Titans backfield when Derrick Henry left with concussion symptoms. If Henry can’t go this week, Spears will be the lead back, but the game is on Monday night, so hopefully we get some conclusive news in time to act.
- Chig Okonkwo(3/62) had another productive game, so to speak, on Sunday. If Henry can’t go, he could see more usage on Monday night.
Broncos – 17 @ Texans – 22
- The Broncos had a game to forget passing wise, save for Courtland Sutton(2/77/1), but they’ve had somewhat of a gauntlet of secondaries since WK4. Their next 4 games are top 10 matchups, so if you’re going to gamble on a WR, Jerry Jeudy(3/51) might be near the top of the list.
- I’m sick. My sweetest golden son Tank Dell broke his fibula and the hearts of many a fantasy owner on Sunday. Noah Brown, John Metchie and Robert Woods will do their best to fill the gap, and I’d prioritize them in that order. Brevin Jordan makes for a decent streamer too if Dalton Schultz can’t make it back this week.
Lions – 33 @ Saints – 28
- Jameson Williams(2/30/1) found the end-zone on a run play but had only 2 touches on the day. He’s not an option this week outside of 14+ team leagues.
- No one in particular filled the space left by Rashid Shaheed(thigh). AT Perry had 1 catch for 30 yards on 3 targets, and his line was the best of anyone outside of Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave. Outside of Kamara, Olave and Taysom Hill, I’m not touching any Saints this week against a solid Panthers secondary.
Falcons – 13 @ Jets – 8
- Atlanta leaned heavily on Bijan Robinson(21/79) and Kyle Pitts(4/51) on Sunday, leaving Drake London(1 /8 ) to shrivel against Sauce Gardner and the Jets secondary – though he did have 5 targets. London will be a decent flex option this week against a Bucs secondary that makes for a top 5 WR matchup.
- Dalvin Cook(10/46) saw 10 touches behind Breece Hall(19/45), though he did little with them. He’s a dart throw DFS play this week against Houston.
- Xavier Gipson(5/77) led the Jets in receiving on 6 targets, as a prime example of the 2nd team doctrine, now that Trevor Siemian seems to be the QB after supplanting Tim Boyle after a bad pick. The whole Jets offense is in disarray though, and I’m barely able to start their stars, much less someone like Gipson, even though his role is increasing. Leave him to DFS tourneys.
Dolphins – 45 @ Commanders – 15
- De’Von Achane(20/103/2) out touched Raheem Mostert(12/51/1), though most of his touches came with the game well in hand. They’ll both be fine starts against Tennessee this week.
- Despite the pedestrian line, Jaylen Waddle(5/52) led Miami in targets(8). Keep using him.
- Antonio Gibson(14/72) saw extra touches when Brian Robinson injured his hamstring. This would be great news for Gibson owners if there wasn’t a bye week in WK14 for Washington. There’s still a chance Robinson can’t suit up in WK15 though so Gibson should be stashed where you can get him.
Panthers – 18 @ Buccaneers – 21
- Jonathan Mingo(6/69) led the Panthers in receiving for the 2nd straight week, and that’s a good sign for the rookie. The bad news is that these games have been against terrible secondaries, and he’ll go against a murderer’s row of secondaries starting this week with the Saints. I can’t advocate using him or any Panther WR this week.
- Trey Palmer(2/12) played as the 2nd WR with Chris Godwin not at 100%, but his upside just isn’t there. No need to add him.
49ers – 42 @ Eagles – 19
- The 49ers lit the Eagles up through the air, as expected, enough so to get Jauan Jennings(3/44/1) a solid line. I expect him to get much usage this week against Seattle.
- D’Andre Swift was knocked from the game late, though nothing was mentioned by the team. Kenny Gainwell(7/47) played 54% of snaps regardless, so he’s on the up. Based on that and Swift’s questionable status, Gainwell needs to be scooped up ahead of Philly’s pivotal clash with Dallas.
Browns – 19 @ Rams – 36
- Just as I presumed on the Saturday afternoon show, Elijah Moore(4/83) and Joe Flacco(44/254/2/1) were a match made in heaven. Moore had a team leading 12 targets on the day. Sure it didn’t hurt that Amari Cooper left with a concussion, and Moore could be in line for hella looks again this week if Cooper can’t return.
- Demarcus Robinson(4/55/1) made a splash as the “new?” no.3 WR in LA. Unfortunately for us the Rams play Baltimore this week, and he’ll be impossible to use outside of DFS.
Chiefs – 19 @ Packers – 27
- Rashee Rice(8/64) continues to state a case for the no.1 WR role in KC, garnering a team high 9 targets on the day. Fire him up against Buffalo this week.
- AJ Dillon(19/87) got the start with Aaron Jones out, but he failed to find the end-zone. He has only scored once this season, WK5, and his upside has been middling all season. Even if Jones can’t go this week, I’m only using him as a flex option.
- Just when we thought Christian Watson(7/71/2) was back, he goes and hurts his hamstring. We’ll have to monitor him this week, but if he can’t go, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks are all in play against a horrendous Giants secondary.
