Bye Buys: Week 4

Week 3 of the NFL regular season has barely passed, but it’s already time to prepare for next weekend’s matchups.

Week 4 signals the start of bye weeks, the upcoming byes being for Indianapolis and Pittsburgh. That means Andrew Luck, Ben Roethlisberger, and a slew of receivers are not going to be at your disposal. That’s where we come in. Here are a handful of players that should be on your waiver wire who are readily capable of filling in for your studs:

Christian Ponder QB, Vikings: Ponder, who scored almost 26 pts. in standard leagues on Sunday has the highest completion percentage in the NFL and a juicy matchup against the pass friendly Lions in week 4. He’s also only owned in 13% of Yahoo leagues. Go get him.

Matt Cassel QB, Chiefs: Cassel had a disappointing fantasy outing against the Saints this past week, but he should put up serviceable numbers against a reeling Chargers outfit this weekend.

Nate Burleson WR, Lions: Burleson is the model of efficiency at his mature football age. With ten catches against the Titans, the veteran should see at least a handful of useful targets against Minnesota.

Brandon Stokely WR, Broncos: Stokely is Peyton Manning’s safety blanket, and something tells me he’ll need him against the Raiders on Sunday.

Armon Binns WR, Bengals: Binns can’t stop making plays for the Bengals, and should continue to do so against the Jaguars, who aren’t very stout against the pass.

Scott Chandler TE, Bills: Chandler has touchdowns in two out of three games this season. As a prime red-zone target for the Bills, you could do worse for a tight end stop gap.

Anthony Fasano TE, Dolphins: Rarely spectacular, but always useable, Fasano is a solid pass catcher on a team that is desperate for them.

Bilal Powell RB, Jets: Shaun Greene’s job is in jeopardy. Look for Powell to get a good share of the carries against a 49ers team that looks a little more vulnerable this season.

Daniel Thomas RB, Dolphins: Barring a speedy recovery for Reggie Bush, Thomas will be the starting running back in a tough contest with the Cardinals on Sunday.

Ryan Williams RB, Cardinals: Still owned in less than 40% of Yahoo leagues, Williams ran hard against the Eagles in week 3. Should Beanie Wells’ turf toe keep him out against Miami, Williams will have no trouble gaining yards against Miami.
