Newsflash: we at RosterWatch believe in Geno Smith.
However, we don’t believe quite as much in Eric Decker. This is why New York is a great landing spot for rookie tight end and former Texas Tech Red Raider Jace Amaro.
Amaro was our No. 3 ranked rookie tight end prospect coming into the 2014 NFL Draft, primarily because of his elite pass-catching skills. He possesses some real juice after the catch, as well. It’s his blocking ability in the run-game that’s a bit concerning, and could perhaps limit his snap count. A member of the Texas Tech football staff told RosterWatch in June that Amaro would be terrific as a Jet … “as long as they didn’t ask him to block anyone.”
Much of Amaro’s success will be linked to QB Geno Smith’s, who we – as mentioned – believe has the skills to put up numbers as a passer. Amaro has the opportunity to have an immediate impact. Our money says he outpaces the production of last year’s rookies Tyler Eifert and Zach Ertz. 50 receptions, 600 yards, and 6 touchdowns are within reach. Of course, it’s probably 2015 when we’ll be expecting the biggest break out.
Don’t put too much stock in the recent mini-camp reports of slow progress. We just heard the same about Eric Ebron. They’re rookies, and it’s only June. For now, Amaro is a very decent late-round pick in redraft leagues. He is a must-own in the first two rounds of Rookie Dynasty Drafts.
