RWi RosterWatch Matchup Tool – Week 2

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested, most popular tool, the instructions couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

Matchup Tool Week 2

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First look at the Broncos’ matchup for the week, and see what the number is inside the “vs. WRs” cell for the Broncos’ OPPONENT.

(Sanders is a WR, and you would like to know his opponent’s rank vs. that position.)

As you will see, the Broncos are playing the Chiefs, who have a big, blue ‘No. 1’ in their “vs. WRs” cell. This is a great indicator for Sanders owners and owners of Broncos’ WRs.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit.

“1″ is the best matchup, “32″ is the worst.

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics from 2013 and Week 1 of 2014, but also weighted averages of separate individual player scouting grades for members of the 2014 unit that will be defending, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question in Week 2. For the first 3 weeks of the 2014 season, trends to end 2013 are quantified and reflected in the overall matchup rating.

  1. Should we have Tennessee on our teams according to this chart?

    1. jschles14-

You mean their defense or their skill players? We like all TEN skill players this week. Good luck

  2. Need 2 RBs PPR – Gore, Toby, J. Hill, Jennings, Crowell, Hyde

Also, what do you think about Steeler D or stream someone else? Arizona, Tennessee, Tampa, etc. Who are your top 5 D stream plays?

    1. cwink2121-

Really like all of those TEN, TB, ARZ- also would consider HOU and MIA

      Jennings + Gore- good luck

      1. So you like all those teams over the Steelers this week?

  3. Also in non ppr thought of Helu or Fred Jackson or Vereen?

    1. cwink2121-

ooh this one it tough between FJAX and Vereen. Check back later in the week for our final rankings. I have a feeling Alex and the Trashman will say Vereen- Im still pretty bullish on FJAX in a non ppr.

  4. TE Question would you start Martellus Bennett or Delanie Walker week 2 Standard League.

  5. Ector-

Can see why you ask with the match ups. For now, we lean ME-Tellus- esp if Alshon misses any time. Check back for our final rankings later this week- to verify our stance on this. Good luck.

  6. Dalton or Romo for week 2? Also Locker, Palmer or Romo? (2 different leagues)

    1. Cwink-
Dalton and it’s close bewtween Locker and Palmer, but after what I saw what he did against SD, I like Palmer.

  7. I know Greene is listed the highest on the waiver wire cheatsheet but as a Richardson owner I’m tempted to drop Greene for Bradshaw or maybe even Crowell? Also who would start this week at RB2? Ridley @MIN, T-Rich vs. PHI, Sproles @IND or someone else?

    12 team Standard:
    QB: Rodgers
    RB: R. Jennings & T. Richardson
    WR: Harvin & K. Benjamin
    TE: Graham
    Flex: Gronk
Bench: Ridley, Sproles, J. Hunter, A. Williams, & Shonn Greene

  8. 1/2 PPR, who should I play?

My WR’s are Cobb, Jeffery, Benjamin.
My RB’s are McCoy, Ball, Bush, Sproles, Ingram.

Need 2 WR’s, 2 RB’s, and 1 Flex. Should i sit Jeffrey this week, and put Bush or Sproles as my flex?

Also, should I drop Ingram and pick up Dalton. My current QB is Brady, but I feel like he’ll pick it up in the coming weeks.

  9. Can you tell my why yall are so low on the Bills D/ST this week?

    1. xraytakr-
The matchup tool doesn’t reflect our own biases. It’s based on past performances and other statistical data that we compile from several sources. Our own rankings will be available before games this weekend.

      1. Yeah I know, I was going by you having them ranked in the low 20s in your rankings.

  10. Question: RG III or Josh McCown for Week 2? Those are my best options and neither look great…

    1. T squared-
You have to go with RG3’s upside. He has elite Qb capabilities, and can score with his feet.

  11. I was just offered cordarelle Patterson for Emmanuel sanders and gerhart… Deal or no deal? I’m getting Patterson in the deal just to clarify

    1. Shady-
Chances are that CP doesn’t outscore the duo on the season, but depends on if you’re able to use Gerhart and Sanders on a weekly basis. Do whatever deal maximizes your starting roster’s scoring potential. If one of those guys is going to be on your bench consistently, it might make sense to do it.

  12. What are your thoughts on the backfield reception in Cleveland? No RBs recorded a catch last week, will Crowell fill that role? Im thinking about starting him over Stacy and Martin in a .5 ppr league. Thoughts?

    1. Kilobravo-
If I was betting on West or Crowell to catch passes I would go with West. Crowell will be the big back compliment in that equation. If Martin can go, he would be my pick. Otherwise, I’d go with Stacy.

  13. 12 man ppr here’s my line-up.
    QB: Cam Newton
    RB: Eddie Lacy
    RB: Le’Veon Bell
    WR: Marques Colston
    WR: T.Y. Hilton
    TE: Kyle Rudolph
Flex (can be a RB, WR or TE) Zac Stacy
    K: Justin Tucker
    DST: New England
Bench: Brandon Cooks (WR), Keenan Allen (WR) and Justin Forcett (RB)

Should I swap anyone from my bench to one of the other spots?
Also, should I pick up the New Orleans, Miami or Tampa Bay DST and drop New England?
Thank you guys! Oh and I love the show, keep up the great work fellas!

    1. Halo-
I would sit Hilton for Cooks, but I can understand not putting all your eggs in the Saints’ basket. In that case it would be Allen. Either way, get Hilton on your bench. In your flex, I’d put Forsett who had 5 catches last game. Thanks for the love, and good luck!

  14. Need help with second RB and Flex spot. Starting R. Jennings but 2nd RB is iffy. I picked up Forsett to replace Ray Rice and I also have MJD.

I like the match up for Forsett against the Steelers so I guess my flex spot is between MJD, Deandre Hopkins, and Robert Woods. Hopkins had a big week for me last week even with a less favorable match up with Washington so i’m leaning toward him and benching MJD.

    1. grh-
With the news of MJD’s hand surgery, it might be best to err on the side of caution. Hopkins is the pick.

  15. 10 team full ppr, I need 3 wr, 2 rb, and a rb/wr/te flex.. I have:
WR- Julio (obvious start), K. Benjamin, j. Hunter, Allen, Evans, Gordon
RB- R. Jennings, T. Gerhart, DMC, J. Bell, miller, fJax, Crowell
    TE- kelce

    1. nmarino-
      wrs- jones, Benj, Allen
rbs- jennings, dmc if mjd sits, if not then gerhart- unless he has a setback
      flex- Hunter

      1. I was thinking very similar to that! Thanks for the help! You guys are awesome!

  16. Also in a weird league I need 2 rb and 2 wr. RBs get 1 point for 5 rec. yds and wrs get 1 point for 5 rush yds. Big play TDs are worth up to 9 or 12 points depending on the yardage. I have:
    RB- Martin, Matthews, Charles, MJD
WR- Crabtree, A Brown, Mike Floyd, and Gordon
I could also start Kyle Rudolph to go with my Thomas at TE if I only start 1 rb or 1 wr. TEs get 1 point for 5 yds receiving, same tds as mentioned before, and 1 point for 5 rush yds.

    1. nmarino-
      rbs- charles,mathews
      wrs- brown, floyd

  17. I am in a very shallow high stakes league with my office. Currently my QBs are Romo and Rivers. It may just be because I am an Eagles fan…but I hate Romo, and don’t really think he will that strong this year? Am I just biased?? Or would Palmer, Big Ben, Kap, or Dalton be a better option? or Rivers? It is only a 1 qb league.

    1. burton8518-

No- we are worried about Romo. It’s why we had him so low in our pre-draft rankings. Undoubtedly, he will have some good games- but we think inconsistency is on the immediate horizon. For now, he’s on our bench until we see otherwise, then we will begin considering matchup playing him against some of those NFC East defenses. Good luck. Rivers has had a few rough opponents to start- but he looks like he’s going to be very very good again this season. Good luck.

  18. I have to pick between starting Tony Romo or Ben Roethlisberger in my 6 point per TD league in week 2. Both have bad matchups but I am tempted to go with Big Ben as he has a slightly better matchup than Romo. Plus Romo looked terrible last week. Who would you choose? Also I need to fill two flex spots in my starting lineup with some combination of Rashad Jennings, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Kelvin Benjamin. All three of these guys have bad matchups. I know you guys have Cordarrelle Patterson ranked higher than Kelvin Benjamin. However, I was contemplating starting Cordarrelle Patterson and Kelvin Benjamin because Rashad Jennings has the worst matchup of the three. However, I know you guys are high on Rashad Jennings. Plus Rashad put up good numbers for me this past Monday in my full point ppr 6 point per TD league in a terrible matchup against the Lions defense. What would you do? Thanks in advance for all the help you guys provide. It is really appreciated.

    1. wmcgrath-

      -Go Big Ben

-You have to start Jennings although you could certainly consider the others- just too many touches for Jennings to put on your bench
      – It might sound crazy, because we love Patterson so much- but as you know we also have been some the highest experts for months on Kelvin. We are going Kelvin here for a multitude of reasons. What a team you have- Good luck

  19. I’ve got Giovani Bernard starting and Jeremy Hill as a handcuff on my bench. Do you think they’ll split the workload like they said they would to the point where Hill should be my flex? Or should I use Ryan Mathews, Mike Evans or Sammy Watkins in my Flex?

    1. Also, who do you think has the better matchup? Dalton or Luck?

    2. icepick16-

No Hill should not be in your flex. Mike Evans is the player here. He was one millimeter away from an 11 pointer in his rookie debut last yr. St Louis coming to Tampa this week is a phenomenal matchup for Evans.

        1. Awesome. Thanks fellas

  20. I need help with a possible rb issue should Eddie Lacy not start. I have crowell, freeman, hyde, and fjax on the bench. Based on the matchup tool I believe hyde has the best matchup. I know he did really well last week but wonder if the split with gore will continue. Also fjax is at home against a good miami def of course, however I believe their 3 starting lb’s are out or at least 2 of them. Based on that and the fact that crowell will be used against a so so saints defense, would you change up who I’d start in place of Lacy if he doesn’t start? The only saving grace is that if they haven’t made a decision on lacy until gametime, Hyde plays in the sunday night game and I could always sub him in.

  21. yeagermeister-

If Alshon and Marshall are out this weekend- we like Hyde more. Otherwise we believe this game will be much more competitive than this wk against DAL- which should result in less time for Hyde. We have been high on Crowell for months, and believe he could be one of the huge waiver wire steals of the season- the guy is like Marshawn Lynch. However, the safe play here with similar upside is Fred Jackson. Good luck

    1. Excellent analysis as always Byron. Lacy seems to be cleared so that will obvioulsy clear up my situation which will be great. On that note Brandon Marshall is one of my starting wr’s. we start 2 and have a flex spot. currently I have marshall/cordarelle patterson, and benjamin in the flex, with my rb’s listed above on the bench and justin hunter.

If marshall doesn’t play and I don’t have to replace lacy with one of my rb’s, I was leaning towards the following for my wr’s and flex: patterson/benjamin, funter in flex or would you use one of the rb’s in the flex over hunter? I want benjamin and patterson in, because we get bonus points for wr/rb going over 100/200 yards so I want that big play ability which is why I was leaning hunter in the flex. Your thoughts?

      1. yeagermeister-

We love Hunter this week. Good luck

  22. I just picked up Isaiah Crowell off waivers. If Alshon is out this week and Evans goes into my WR2 slot, would you suggest Sammy Watkins, Bishop Sankey, Ryan Mathews, Jeremy Hill or Isaiah Crowell as a flex?

    1. icepick-
Mathews has a tough matchup, but his volume should account for that.

      1. Sounds good. Thanks

  23. 12 team ppr. WRS are marshal, djax, harvin, hunter, Benjamin, Jordan Mathews. Need 3. Need 2 rbs out of ball, Jennings, and Jeremy hill.

    1. jordancole30-

Wait for the news on Marshall Sunday morning. If he sounds good throw in him with Benjamin, Harvin. If he’s out it’s between DJax and Hunter. IN a ppr Djax got more targets that usual last week- he could have a decent floor with designed plays. Obviously, he always has massive upside. It’s really tough because WE LOVE Hunter, and his matchup is juicy. We’ll play it safe and roll with DJax. Good luck.

  24. Okay I just picked up asiata. Full ppr. Right now my lineup has Julio, Benjamin, and k. Allen at wr, Jennings and DMc at rb and justin hunter in the flex. I’m thinking about moving asiata to the flex and hunter in at wr over Allen against Seattle.. What are your thoughts? DMC is going to start.. I think asiata will do well against New England and he played well last year when he started for AP.

    1. Nmarino-
You’re on the right track. I like all of those moves.

      1. Awesome! Thanks!

  25. 12 team standard league
Need 2 RBs of the four (currently have jennings and martin starting, but jennings has a tough matchup and martin may be limited):
    Martin
    Jennings
    Vereen
    Sproles
Also, for WR1…could replace C. Patterson with J. Hunter or Mike Evans. Is Revis island a concern or will Patterson’s rushing negate that?

    1. serpent-
I like Jennings and Vereen. Word is that Vereen will get goal line action. Revis tends to cover sides not players so i’m not that scared. I would try to find a way to get Hunter in though. Maybe in your flex.

      1. Thanks! I appreciate the input. My league doesn’t have a flex, but my WR lineup is Patterson, Harvin, and K. Benjamin. Would you recommend Hunter over Harvin or Benjamin?

        1. Hunter over Benjamin this week against Dallas.

          1. Post By serpent_89

            Perfect! Thanks again.

  26. Need one RB out of the group: Gore, Asiata, Stacy, Sproles. Thanks

      1. ppr full point

  27. I picked up Dalton off waivers. I own Kap and Cam but I’m worried about Newton’s health. Who should I start week 2? And how do you feel about Gresham at the TE spot vs ATL? (Jordan Cameran owner as well) thanks guys

    1. Kaepernick. We like Gresham this week with Eifert out.

  28. 10 team non-ppr

I need two RBs: Stacy, Lamar Miller, Ingram, Fred Jackson, Sproles (Crowell, Greene, Jones-Drew/McFadden, Bradshaw available on wire)

    1. Stacy, Greene(jackson if you don’t want to drop someone)

      1. Who do I cut? Thx!

  29. 11 pm pacific time right now and already listening to the Rosterwatch sirius xm on demand show, having some Nachos and margaritas!!! Thanks for the show getting put up so fast. My week isn’t complete without listening to the show!

  30. I just found you guys listening to sirius and think I’m really going to love this site, thanks a million!

    1. You will love this site. A few weeks back I was in your boat and I check in a few times a day hoping they have a new article for me to look at. One of the best sites around.

  31. For fanduel, do u like locker and gio Bernard or Rodgers and Terrance west? (Half point PPR)

  32. Who should I start today? Standard scoring 5 point bonus at 125. I need to pick two, Hyde, Ellington, Rashad Jennings, or Jeremey Hill.

  33. ten team std Dwayne Allen or Jason Witten??

  34. 14 team PPR league and need to start two of the five RBs; J. Bell, J. Hill, B. Sankey, L. Miller, L. Murray?

  35. PPR (+3pt for 100+ yds) need 1 for WR2 spot – K.Allen / E.Decker / B.Cooks / J.Hunter. Thanks Guys
