RWi RosterWatch Matchup Tool – Week 4

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch.alex byline It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested, most popular tool, the instructions couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

Week 4 Matchup

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Steelers WR Antonio Brown, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First look at the Steelers’ matchup for the week, and see what the number is inside the “vs. WRs” cell for the Steelers’ OPPONENT.

(Brown is a WR, and you would like to know his opponent’s rank vs. that position.)

As you will see, the Steelers are playing the Bucs, who have a big, blue ‘No. 1’ in their “vs. WRs” cell. This is a great indicator for Brown owners and owners of Steelers WRs.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start, sit or pick up off the waiver wire for matchup spot-plays.

“1″ is the best matchup, “32″ is the worst.

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also weighted averages of separate individual player scouting grades for members of the 2014 unit that will be defending, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question in Week 4.

  1. Good Morning Trashman, et. al.,

    Flex? Pick one, please.

    Khiry Robinson @Dallas (allow RB’s 14.5ppg)
    Bobby Rainey @Pitt (allow RB’s 18.1 ppg)
Hilton @Tenn (5th best pass defense, allow 17ppg)
Allen vs. Jax. (4th worst pass defense, allow 29ppg)
Data thru first 3 games only.

    Thank you.

    Best Wishes,

    Mike

    1. Robinson is your guy.
      -Trashman

      1. Hi Trashman, Thank you for the reply and the matchup tool!!

Also, I have LeSean Shady McCoy at RB1, whom no one would bench.
But he’s facing the 49ers & I could make an argument that
Khiry Robinson at RB and Keenan Allen at Flex might be the way to go this weekend.

        Mike

        1. If Andre Ellington can get 75 yards from scrimmage against sf, I can take my chances with Shady. Robinson makes for a solid flex play. I think Allen is getting healthier, but Robinson has a great matchup and you might as well ride him while you can.

          1. Trashman, Valid and compelling points. Shady and Khiry Robinson it is. Thank you and good luck to you this weekend.

  2. I need 3 out of the 4 in a Standard Non PPR league

Donald Brown, Darren Sproles, Khiry Robinson, Trent Richardson

    1. Robinson, Sproles and Brown.

  3. .5 12 team PPR league. I have a trade offer. I am offered Demaryius Thomas and Andre Ellington for my Le’Veon Bell and Crabtree.

we start 2 wr, 2 rb and a flex
I have AP, Doug Martin, Ivory, Taliaferro
I also have Garcon, Hilton, Sanu

    thank you in advance

    1. Cling onto Bell with a vice like grip.
      -Trashman

      1. I agree with the Trashman. Keep ringing the Bell as long as it peals.

        1. Thanks guys. Your the best.

          1. A friend in my league wanted to trade me Demarius Thomas for Giovani Bernard. I laughed in his face and asked him if he was serious or if he thought I was a complete idiot.

A star RB is the rarest commodity in this venue!!!

  4. With Eli looking at Cruz more, who’s a better TE play this week? Donnell or Ertz?

    1. Niles Paul is also on the waiver wire for Wednesday. would he be a better option this week than either Donnell or Ertz?

    2. icepick16-

We like the looks Donnell is getting right now. Good luck.

  5. Same thing again this week for me… Brees or Rivers? Last week I went with Brees and he ended up slightly better but this week Rivers is playing the wooooorst defense.

    1. grh1988-

You can’t go wrong here, flip a coin if you need to. For us, very tough to sit Brees in this kind of matchup- for some reason even though the matchup is a bit tougher than Rivers’ – it’s still a good one and we see more of a competitive game script here that is an offensive shoot-out all the way until the end. We’d roll Brees out. Good luck.

  6. 1 pt. PPR league:
Robinson or Ivory? Also, I may be able to grab Rivers off waivers. Do you think he may be a better option than Foles this week?

    1. mrhomey-

Close call with Ivory’s matchup. Still, he will get more receptions in a PPR than Robinson- and he’s the hotter player. We’d roll him out without much remorse. I don’t know what kind of league this is- but there isn’t a format we can imagine where Philip Rivers shouldn’t be owned. Yes, we likely have Rivers ranked higher than Foles by week’s end. Good luck.

  7. Flex play?
    Doug martin or kelvin benjamin

    1. Standard Scoring, I would trust K. Benjamin to provide production over Martin. I don’t even know if Martin will play and if he does what his role will be.

      1. Saejus-

This is spot on. RosterWatch Nation is so smart!

  8. Flex play?
    Doug martin or kelvin benjamin

    1. jocrawfo-

We love Kelvin in our flex. Good luck!

  9. So stuck on which 2 out of 4 WR to play….Brandin cooks, steve smith sr, andre johnson, or crabtree considering colin is my qb…help if you can decisions, decisions!

    1. paigeallman1-

It’s so fun to call him “Sr” , isn’t it? We are always rolling with Brandin Cooks. The next guy is Crabtree. He is safe with same upside as the others. Sr could have a big one vs his old team if you’re a gambler, though. Good luck.

  10. Standard: R. White or C. Patterson
PPR: Knile Davis or Allen Robinson
Thanks for all the advice RW!

    1. raywags-

      Patterson

Obv is Charles is limited we give heavy consideration to Knile. But, all current reports are pointing towards Charles earning a big workload this week. Right now, we like Robinson in a PPR. If Charles has a setback then you will want to switch it back to Knile. Good luck.

  11. Should I gamble on Branden Oliver the number 2 rb for sd. It’s a good match up for sd to try and work oliver in. Or should I drop him and pick up Andrea Williams ?

    1. pattyboo-

If you own Rashad Jennings, you should grab Andre Williams. If not, Oliver is worth a stash and pray. Keep Andre on your watch list, though. Good luck.

      1. Choosing two of the three to play Branden Oliver, Bishop Sankey, and Allen Robinson?

Sankey and Robinson is what I’m going with right now

  12. -So at RB I have Martin, Davis, Charles, and miller. I start 2. I know I’m going with miller, but I’m wondering if I should go Martin (who knows what his workload will be, and If they’ll be down this week and have to pass), or wait till Monday and see who starts out of Charles and Davis. And if Charles goes, will he split or get the full workload?
-Also, Brady or cousins at QB?

    1. RB: Charles/Davis either for me is much better play than Martin. Questions are too numerous there in Tampa for me to feel comfortable depending on him. Charles/Davis whoever gets the start you know is getting the workload, getting involved, and hopefully producing. That being said, will Charles split the workload with Davis? Great question, I don’t know the answer.

QB: I would try K. Cousins, the floor is high for him, it may not last I would ride him while I can. I doubt it last but there is a good chance it continues at least through this week. Brady would need to earn his starting spot back for me.

^^^ This is for standard scoring league.

    2. nmarino028-

Yeah, you can’t run the risk of rolling out Miller and Martin who could both BLEEP the BLEEP out of you at any given time. We def wait until Monday to make the best decision on a KC back. We have a feeling it will be Charles. Good luck!

  13. I know the Match up tool loves all Offense vs. Jacksonville, but I’m curious on two sit/starts:

    Rivers or Romo?
    Romo or Cousins?

    1. nmarino028-

We are starting Rivers + incredibly close on the 2nd one. Cousins feels a bit safer, with a potential Rob Ryan on Tony Romo swindle brewing. Very very close there- feel free to go with the guy you like more or would rather root for- it’s your team- enjoy your season. We get sick on Kirk Cousins, and love him in NFC East games.

  14. 1 pt PPR league:
Niles Paul or Kendall Wright flex. Charlie Whitehurst could be the Titans QB this week and Paul plays tonight.
    Thanks for your previous advice.

    1. mrhomey-

We like the Cousins to Paul connection right now. Good luck.

  15. WR1: Calvin Johnson
WR2 – Pick 1 please: DeSean Jackson, Julian Edelman, Kelvin Benjamin

Starting: Lacy, L.Miller, and Donald Brown in my flex.

Anybody recommend starting 1 of the WR’s in the flex instead of Brown/Miller/Lacy??

Started the season 0-3 so really need some help!

    1. Edelman is who I would roll with as a WR2. He is the #1 WR on that team with a top ten matchup for WR.

FLEX: I am interested as to who your RB1/RB2 is if you have Lacy as a FLEX option.

    2. The49vengers-

Kelvin very close with Edelman. We lean Kelvin in standard- Edelman in PPR

Yeah- we know it’s a good time to start Miller if you have him and need too- but we aren’t doing it over Edlman or Benjamin or potentially DJax for that matter. This is all very close. We lean Edelman and Kelvin here.

  16. PPR flex, K Allen, Ridley, or J Bell?

    1. KCBlackKnight-

      Keenan. Good luck

  17. who’s the better flex play in standard scoring? Watkins, Evans, Ertz? Thanks

    1. Think we will roll evans or watkins here. Prob Sammy- altho we cld see Glennon being a big upgrade for Evans

  18. I need to bench one of these: Asiata, Martin, Wayne, white, Allen

  19. ,5 ppr sorry

  20. Standard league need 1 rb3 and 1 flex from: vereen, Rainey, Jordan Matthews, Allen Robinson, James Jones?

  21. 10 Team PPR
    My starters for WK4 are:
    QB-Kaepernak, RB1-Lacy RB2-K. Robinson, WR1-Antonio Brown WR2-C. Patterson, TE-Greg Olsen, Bills,
    PK-Crosby
I have TE Niles Paul-WAS in my FLEX position for tonights game.
I have Lynch and Fitzgerald on byes.
Here are the rest of my reserves:
    Watkins, Sankey, Hyde and Starks.
Would you substitute any of these four for any of my starters?
Or another option is to pick up one of these free agents and drop Paul: Mcfadden, Hurns, Boldin, Jordan Matthews and Blue.
Martin is on waivers. However, I’m in the 9th waiver position, so not confident that I’ll get him but will try.
Also, I dropped Jeremy Hill for Sankey. Was that a good move?
    I

  22. I have Peterson, McKinnon and Ingram on my roster,
I was holding on to Mckinnon in case Peterson is suspended for the season and Ingram for his return in another 3 weeks.
Who should I drop to try and get Martin who’s on waivers?

    1. The answer is AP if you have anything less than a winning record.

  23. Better side of this trade. Team A gets lacy and colston. Team B gets Brandon Marshall and Gordon. Full point ppr keeper league.

    1. If I’m hurting for a win this week, Team A.

  24. Hopefully this won’t get lost in all the sit/start advice requests.

How do you recommend we use this chart? How much weight do you put in the rankings? If a player is going against a red defense, is he an auto-sit?

    1. I like to use the chart for tie-breakers between two players I’m considering. A player is never an auto-sit, especially since it’s early in the season and there isn’t a large sample size of data to work from. As the season progresses, the more weight I put into the rankings.
