RosterWatch Week 2 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2017 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Patriots WR Brandin Cooks, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Patriots (Cooks’ team). You will see that the Pats’ opponent (OPP) is the Saints in Week 2, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Saints’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the Patriots, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Saints). In the “OPP vs. WRs” cell for the Patriots, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Patriots WRs face the best possible matchup for opposing WRs in Week 2 in the Saints. This is a great indicator for owners of Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan and other Pats pass-catchers or those thinking of rostering them in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

WHITE: Neutral Matchups

  1. Lost DJ. Have depth at WR and weak at RBs. Should I trade Agholor for Abdullah?

WR: Allen, Cooks, Bryant, Cooper Kupp, Galloday, Willie Snead, Lee and Doctson
RB: Kerwyn Williams, Joe Mixon, Derick Henry and D’onta Foreman

    1. yeah, we’d do that if we needed RB depth.

  2. Man you guys are killing it!

So a guy dropped Russel Wilson in my 12 Dynasty salary cap league. Std scoring.

I have wentz and cam. Should I drop either of those guys for him? Or one of my bench players?

    1. We’d prob drop Wentz.

  3. I saw Coleman is higher than Miller in standard. I have them in PPR. They were the ones I were debating between this week. Is there anything specific why Miller would be higher in PPR? Thanks guys.

    1. I’m not exactly sure why that happened, but it populates PPR automatically via the fantasyPros algorithm when we input our standard rankings. I agree it’s a little weird that the algorithm would give Miller the bump in PPR, I’ll look into it.

  4. Jamal Charles and C. West were both dropped for the likes of Carson and Cohen.

Would you consider dropping Foreman or Perine or let that situation ride for either of them? Something about the youth that keeps me interested in Foreman Perine. This is for my RB6 (Murray, Ingram, J. Allen, D. Henry – other 4).

    1. If you have that depth, we’d hold on to the upside of Perine and Foreman.

  5. Drop Duke Johnson for any of these

    Cohen
    K. Williams
    Buck Allan

    1. I’d drop him in a second for Cohen.

Just had a trade go through where I get T.Y. Hilton and other team gets Alshon Jeffery.

I also have Mike Evans, Michael Thomas, Keenan Allen and Zay Jones. Did I strengthen my position at WR or keep the status quo? I’m much weaker at RB, so I’m considering leveraging my depth later in the season for a quality RB.

    1. I wouldn’t have made that trade, wish I had an answer you liked better. I always prefer answering advice questions as opposed to asking how I feel about moves made because if I don’t think it’s a good move I seem like a dick.

      1. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

No worries. I can take a punch (maybe not so much in real life). I kind of feel like Jeffery is always going to be a flex option, and rarely a WR1 or WR2 considering my depth. I’m higher on Allen, and Hilton has really good upside when Luck comes back.

  7. I am in a 10 team full point PPR 3WR league. I have Allen Robinson who just got hurt. I am wondering should I pick up one of these guys Nelson Agholor, Danny Amendola, Terrance Williams, Allen Hurns, Donte Moncrief, or Torrey Smith? I have A. Brown, D. Bryant, K. Allen, D. Parker, and Tyrell Williams.

    1. I think picking up Agholor makes sense.

      1. Thank you!

  8. How do you guys see Wentz? Would you guys drop Rivers or Big Ben for him?

  9. Post By Bech01a1@yahoo.com

Looking for daily fantasy advice. I’m new to it. I had a few questions as far as entry strategy. I’m going to focus on 50/50 and head to head.
Using a nice round number, if my budget is $100 for the week, how would you break it up? 1-$100 league, 2 – $50, 4-$25, 10-$10?
Second, using the rw daily cheat sheet and generator, how many unique lineups would be recommended? A new one for each
league, 2 or 3 split evenly, or simply the single best lineup I can come up with.
    Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated

    1. Only 1 or 2 cash game lineups. We’d put in 3 and 4 $10 entries of the same LU into the $10 50/50 contest with 114 entrants (single entry). That would mean a total of 7 entries of two lineups (one entered into 3 contests and one entered into 4) that have the same core players but differentiate at defense and flex, etc. Then spend the other $30 buying 10 entries into the biggest $3 tourney and make lineups in that one that contain less chalky cash-game options.

        Thanks

  10. I need to pick 2 RBs and a flex:

I’ve got both Howard and Cohen, just picked up Buck Allen, and have Martavis and Kupp.

Who would you put in? Could Howard and Cohen both be viable?

    1. Gonna have to check back closer to game time once we have our heads wrapped around the week more. Thankfully you don’t have to make that decision before THURS.

      1. So true. Will check back later.

  11. I need to pick one of these guys for my flex…
    Adam Thielen
    Lamar Miller
    DeVante Parker.

Also, wanted to give you guys props. I killed it in DFS thanks to the guidance from the optimizer and cheat sheet! I cashed in all 9 contests…now if I can only get myself to bet more than a couple of bucks on each one…haha

  12. Oh the glorious match up tool, this still my favorite tool that you provide. Thanks!

  13. I can only start 2 Rbs and I need to pick between Gillislee, Ty Montgomery, and Kareem Hunt. The matchup tool says Hunt should sit, but do I start Hunt over Gillislee based that Hunt will see more time on the field?

  14. Snead sitting on bench. PPR. best for rating season? Co. Davis, Twill, Zae, Kenny G. out there and can get for free. Do it? Have Cupp, Evans, Cobb, KA + C. Coleman. RW4EVA and thank you in advance!

  15. Post By christopherdavidhui@gmail.com

12 team PPR – just lost Woodhead. Do I roll with Tevin Coleman or Alvin Kamara?

    1. I like Alvin better which seems to be against the grain this week. Keep in mind Howard is still there and Alvins usage last week was prettt telling to me. Just my $.02

  16. Dez or CJ Anderson for flex in 0.5 PPR? Also, I have D’Onta Foreman strictly as a potential keeper for next year in a PPR league; is Cohen THAT good to be worth dropping him? I don’t see him playing a ton on my team unless I have injuries or he explodes.

  17. Post By kdhrris1@memphis.edu

Someone dropped Eifert, I have Doyle. Should I pick him up?

    1. If you have a scrub to drop I’d do it fast.

    2. Post By kdhrris1@memphis.edu

Would you drop Doyle and roll with Eifert?

      1. Yes, everyday all day

  18. I have Captain Kirk at qb and no backup. I have the following WRs.

    M Thomas
    Mart Bryant
    Ty Williams.
    S Sheapors
    M lee
Soon to be working at IHOP J Dotson
    K Stills

We start 3. I’ve been offered
    Dak or Cam (my choose)
    Eifert

    For my
    S sheapord
    Olsen

    Ppr

    Thoughts.

    1. Ok gen just switched it to

      Dak
      Eifert

      For
      Sheapord
      CJ Anderson

Rbs are a rosterwatch studly group of
Zeek dal cook hunt Anderson kamera
      We start 2

  19. Got offered a trade. I give up Keenan Allen for Gillislee and Tyrell Williams. Standard league. My WR’s are Julio, BMarsh, Garcon, Marvin Jones. RB’s are J Howard, CJA, Cohen, Henry, Buck Allen, Foreman.

    1. I personally would not make that trade. You are taking a huge step down at WR and I would stay away from the NE backfield since you never know who is getting the touches. Having Julio and Allen starting every week gives you a nice leg up. If you trade Allen, you weaken considerably at WR and your RB core is fine as it stands now. Just my 2 cent!

  20. 12 team standard league I am loaded with wrs but am hurting since DJ got injured. There are a couple options for trades:
Give landry, parker, or djax for gillislee?
Give martavis bryant or Alshon Jeffery for ty Montgomery?
Or give landry, Parker, or djax for ingram?

I also have Keenan Allen, but I would rather not trade him. Any of these rbs would instantly become my rb 2. Do any of these deals seem reasonable?

  21. Standard scoring. My RBs are Elliot, Fournette, Anderson, Stewart, Martin, Charles. TE Bennett. Guy is hurting at RB with Hyde, Powell, Prosise, Woodhead. He has TE Kelce & Rudolph. Should I offer CJ Anderson & TE Bennett for Kelce or does this leave me thin at RB until Martin comes off suspension or is Kelce even that much of an upgrade over Bennett?

  22. Three questions –
    1) Trade question: standard league, deep rosters,12 teams. Offered trade of Dalvin Cook & Ginn (get them) for Michael Thomas & Doug Martin. My current WR are A Brown, Thomas, T Hill, Corey Coleman, Zay, and RB are Fournette, Martin, Buck Allen, Prosise, Gore, and Mack. I’m leaning against this.
    1a) Drop Prosise for Perine?
    2) PPR league, 10 teams. drop Corey Coleman for Snead? Other WR are Michael Thomas, Keenan Allen, Alshon Jeffery, Brandon Marshall. Could also drop Buck Allen for Snead (have McCoy, Freeman, Tevin Coleman, CJ Anderson).

    Thanks!!!

  23. Hey guys trade question here. I was wondering if you think it’s possible to ship off Hilton and Miller to the Woodhead owner in my league for Evans and Woodhead? And not only to do that but if it’s worth the effort. Cause obviously Evans is a monster.

  24. Post By kdhrris1@memphis.edu

    Eifert or Doyle?

    1. The simply sick as hell Roster watch draft cheat sheet has Eifert 10 rows ahead of Doyle. Make it happen…

  25. Mixon or Kamara this wk in PPR? And jeffery, kupp, golladay, or corey davis in the flex?

  26. I have good depth at WR but struggling at RB. Keeper league, I can trade Maclin and Zay for Gillislee at a 9th round value next year or DHenry at a 3rd rd value. My RBs are Mixon, Crow, Prosise, DMart, Foreman, Carson. Other WRs are Evans, Cooks, Thielen, Kupp, Golladay and TEs are Olsen & Engram .5pr and we play 2 rbs, 2 wrs, 1 te and 3 rb/wr/te flex. Thanks for your great content.

    1. Duh forgot to ask the question…would you do either or neither of these trade options? Thanks!

  27. Panicky Pete here, what are we doing with DJ? I have seen the question a lot but no answers. Still figuring it out or did I miss it?

    1. Wait it out. Out at least 10 weeks. But, if he comes back, and you’re in a position for a playoff push, he’ll be sick to have on your team.

      1. If Arizona tanks without him, and they don’t make the playoffs, I wouldn’t expect to see him on the field again this year.

    2. If you need to drop him, you can at anytime. If you have the luxury of a good roster, and a deep bench- then we’d hold him where we could- not an absolute mandate though.

  28. Should I drop Hunter Henry and pick up Jesse James?

    1. No

      1. Thank you!!

  29. Trade CJ Anderson and S. Shepard for Dak and Eifert. PPR
    Have Cousins w/ no backup

    1. Eh- depends on who your TE is now, and if you need CJA or not. Getting Dak doesn’t move the needle much for us, esp this wk vs DEN.

If you don’t need CJA, and think Eifert is a huge upgrade at ur TE, and you think Dak is better than what. you can do streaming rest of season- then we can live with it.

      1. What if I could get Cam instead of Dak. Not sure i need to do this as I have Cousins and Olsen.

  30. Thx guys. 3rd year member of RW nation!! Love you guys.

Won week 1 – thx to M. Gordon and D. Carr.

Draft Sheet helped me get a solid team in 12 person Standard: 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, Flex (WR,RB,TE).

I ended up really WR heavy and am concerned about RB depth and Lynch’s long term health.

    QB: Derek Carr
    WR: M. Thomas, A Jeffrey, D. Jackson, B. Marshall (A. Robinson – dropped inured)
    RB: M. Gordon, M. Lynch
    TE: J. Graham

Bench: C. Clay, C. Kupp, A. Hurns (picked them on waivers following your cheat sheet and podcast-thx for the cast-rated it 5 Stars!!), C Coleman, J. Charles, D Washington (handcuff for Lynch)

I feel pretty good about my starting lineup.

Someone dropped, M. Lee and S Perine. M. Mack, D. Foreman are free agents. Should I drop anyone (Hurns or Washington) and grab any of these guys as a long term play like Mack or Perine or upgrade M. Lee over Hurns.

Thanks for all you do and answering our questions when you are so busy!!!!

    1. We would drop Hurns for one of those guys- maybe tilt RB to improve your depth there. As for your WR, good things you drafted the depth to help fade the ARob injury. I think you need all those guys right now until you see what you have. Best wishes.

      1. Thanks. Gonna drop Hurns and pick up Mack since he’s highest available from your waiver sheet.

  31. Hey fellas,

Would you pull the trigger on an Amari Cooper for Dez Bryant trade?

    I get Dez.

    Thanks!

    1. We hate those kind of 1:1 trades of players of same position- they don’t make a lot of sense to us, and are hard to grade..

Close call- yeah we’d prob take Dez. He’s still got a few tough matchups ahead of, though- so check out his schedule and make sure you feel good about getting wins the next few weeks. That is what is most important!

    2. Dez faces some pretty good corners this year, which he struggles against. I would keep Amari.

  32. 12 man ppr, need 1 RB and a Flex: Powell, Crowell, Coleman, Duke Johnson, Shepard and Kupp.

    Thanks

    1. Please use the rankings during the week, and the Trashman’s flex rankings on Friday to make these decisions with the most / best info possible closest to time. For now- prob Crow + CC or CK

  33. Post By thetzel3@aol.com

Thanks to the draft cheat sheet, I have a pretty stacked team. 10 team 1pt ppr we only use 1qb 1TE 2 Rbs and 2 WRs with 1 flex for WRs RBs TE, kicker & defense. But I think I have a hole in my lineup at TE ? I know it’s just week one but I’m worried for the long haul. I have Ebron, I see Charles Clay is available. Do I see after this week how Ebron plays or drop and grab Clay? Another option is to trade with a guy that is TE heavy and WRs week he has Gronk & Ertz. Here’s a list of my WRs A Brown, M Thomas, Fitzgerald, K Allen, Crabtree, Watkins & Garcon. Was wondering what a fair trade would be for either TE? Was thinking Watkins & Garcon for Ertz? He said he’d take K Allen for Ertz straight up. What’s your feelings on that? Or do I try to get Hronk with a better package? Any thoughts greatly appreciated. The best money I’ve ever spent on fantasy is here in Roster Nation.

    Thanks, Undertakers

    1. I’d drop Ebron for Clay now. See if that solves the issue. If not- start working on trade ideas and continue cultivating waiver wire. I’d grab Jared Cook too if you can.

      1. Post By thetzel3@aol.com

Thanks for all the help & advice

  34. Trade question. Sounds pretty even but who would you rather have rest of the year. 1PPR. Green or Evans?

    1. Total for tat…I personally prefer Evans due to his QB.

    2. Evans

  35. Mixon or Kamara this wk in PPR? And jeffery, kupp, golladay, or corey davis in the flex

    1. Gotta go Kamara after last weeks workload. And I would have to go with Jeffery

    2. Please always refer to our positional rankings as we update throughout the week, as well as Trashman’s flex rankings on Fridays for sit / start decisions.

Close call.- prob Alshon – maybe Davis – maybe Kupp in PPR.

  36. Post By mjgoodsman@live.com

    Need 2WR 1PPR
    K Allen
    D Parker
    A Jeffery
    P Garcon
    M Bryant

    1. Gotta go with Allen for sure. Then I think I go Jeffery

    2. KA + DP

Please always refer to our positional rankings as we update throughout the week, as well as Trashman’s flex rankings on Fridays for sit / start decisions.

  37. How is my team looking minus DJ? Carr, Lynch, Perkins, AJ Green, Thielin, Gronk, Devante Parker, Carsons, Henry, Doug Martin, Marlon Mack, Desean Jackson. The league is a keeper league. Should I try to move DJ? What moves should I try to make to sure up my backs?

  38. Need a flex – Tyrell Williams, Marquis Lee, or Cooper Kupp?

    1. Close call – all solid options- I’ll prob have Lee ranked highest when said and done-

Please always refer to our positional rankings as we update throughout the week, as well as Trashman’s flex rankings on Fridays for sit / start decisions.

  39. Flex question — I plan to start Evans, Allen and M Thomas — need 1 of the following — T Cohen. T Coleman, M Bryant, Parker, C Davis, or Golladay — 1/2pt PPR — 10 team. I’m leaning towards Parker (hoping for a shoot-out)

    1. Please always refer to our positional rankings as we update throughout the week, as well as Trashman’s flex rankings on Fridays for sit / start decisions.

Parker or Davis – best wishes.

      1. Thanks — An over thinking idea is starting Bryant on the theory that Xavier Rhodes will cause Ben to look to Martavis more often. …. and the Chargers do have good corners. …. This is where a coin comes into play.

  40. Post By dmcclimo@gmail.com

PPR league 2 flex spots I have Theilen in 1 spot and right now I have Sammy Watkins in the other. Should I replace him with Cooper Kupp because Josh Norman will be shadowing Sammy? Not so much cause Norman is that great but more cause of the Goff not putting the ball into tight spots and playing the safe drop off?

    Thanks

    1. Please always refer to our positional rankings as we update throughout the week, as well as Trashman’s flex rankings on Fridays for sit / start decisions.

Yes- I would play Kupp over Watkins in PPR.

      1. Post By dmcclimo@gmail.com

U got it Thanks for the input.

I’m New here my bad..! 🙂

  41. PPR League – Need one rb and one wr.

    Benjamin
    Landry
    Mixon
    Kamara
    Carson

    1. could be two rb, but probably not the best option.

    2. Please always refer to our positional rankings as we update throughout the week, as well as Trashman’s flex rankings on Fridays for sit / start decisions.

      Likely – Landry and Carson.

  42. Post By vince.ianni07@gmail.com

    Hey guys,

I’m in a 2QB (6 pt passing TDs) league that starts 2 RBs, 3WRs, TE and flex – non ppr. My roster makeup is as follows:

I’m thinking about trying to move Freeman for a stud WR but am not sure if my RB depth will be okay if I trade him away. I also thought about trying to move freeman in a deal for Gronk. Any thoughts/insight is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys!

    QBs
    Carson Palmer
    Marcus Mariota

    RBs
    Devonta Freeman
    Lesean Mccoy
    Mike Gillislee
    Tevin Coleman
    AP

    WRs
    Doug Baldwin
    Alshon Jeffery
    Martavis Braynt
    Golden Tate
    Cooper Kupp
    Ted Ginn

    TEs
    Jared Cook
    Jack Doyle

    1. Man, you have to keep Freeman. Maybe do a deal where you ship Gillislee after the big TD game + one or two of your WR for a better WR1. Best wishes.

      1. Post By vince.ianni07@gmail.com

Aj and Cooks are possibilities – like either of those guys to go after with Gillislee and Tate or Martavis?

        1. Yes- go for AJ.

          1. Post By vince.ianni07@gmail.com

Think its worth moving gillislee for Keenan?

  43. YES! IF we get Keenan!? YES!

  44. In one of my leagues everyone drafted backup TEs and I ended up with Doyle. I put a claim in for Clay but if I don’t land him, would you go with Jesse James, Z. Miller, Gates, or swing for the fences with OJ Howard?

Also, I love stashing upside RBs. Can you rank Perine, Foreman, Mack, J Williams(GB), and Carson for me? Currently have Foreman and Williams on a team that lost David Johnson so I’m trying to build depth behind K Hunt who has become my new RB1.

    Thanks Guys

    1. I’d roll Gates or Howard. Howard is a very enticing stash. Gates is a reasonable hail mary this week.

  45. Post By John Hunsberger

Do I trade kerwyn Williams from zona for ty Hilton , in need of a flex player standard scoring ..

    1. NO

    2. Not until we know more about Andrew Luck’s return

  46. Hello Team RW,

1 pt PPR league, which two of these players would you start in my flex spots?:

Austin Hooper (starting Eifert at TE), CJ Anderson, Buck Allen, Kenny Golladay

    1. Forgot to mention that there can only be one RB.

  47. PPR need 1 flex.. lamar miller, martavious bryant, crabtree, maclin, also i want to pick up the rams D. is it worth me cutting denanglo henderson, or smallwood? also this is a dynasty league

  48. Hi guys. PPR league. I have Kareem Hunt and Demarco Murray as starters, James White as a back-up and had Woodhead but want to drop him for another RB for depth. Which is the best guy to take for potential upside — D’onte Forman, Marlon Mack, or Chris Carson? Or would I be better off with Gio Bernard, Andre Ellington or Chris Thompson?

  49. Sorry a second question here — PPR league am I starting James White against the New Orleans D over either DeMarco Murray or over Martavis Bryant in my flex?

  50. I have Boswell as my kicker.

Should I drop him and p/u Lutz, Tavecchio or Dawson?
