RWi Target Monsters: Targets Leaders From Preseason Week 3

Here we have a look at the fantasy-relevant players who posted at least five targets in, typically, around one half of football during the NFL’s Week 3 “dress rehearsal” game of the preseason. Traditionally, preseason Week 3 target numbers have given a good “sneak peek” at what is being installed offensively and how the personnel is likely to be utilized once the NFL regular season gets kicked off.

  1. Looking forward to week 1, I need to drop 2 players to add a K and D. This is 8 team PPR – Toby Gerhart, Mike Floyd, Vereen, B. Cooks, T. West, C. Hyde, K. Benjamin, B. Pierce ( Current starters D. Thomas, Dez, Foster, Jennings, G. Olsen, A. Brown). Thank you!

    1. cwink we’d recommend dropping West and Pierce. Good Luck.

  2. Drafted in a 12 man PPR, QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, RB/WR/TE, DEF, AND KICKER. I ended up with the following roster. Cam Newton, Andy Dalton, Gio Bernard, Shane Vereen, Ben Tate, Woodhead, Jeremy Hill, Dez Bryant, Roddy White, Pierre Garcon, Amendola, Jordan Mathews, Zach Ertz, Travis Kelce, Nick Novak, and Cincinnati D. DO you think I should try to strengthen up anywhere or let ride?

    1. Jpayne81-

Very nice roster. Only thing we’d consider is fishing around for value on another buy-low WR- somebody with upside. Also, love the Ertz / Kelce combo- obviously still remains to be seen, though. Good luck!

  3. First post welcome to the party right? anyway, our league dropped to 8 standard. Everyone has good teams I’m freaking out a little. Here is my draft QB- Cam, Ryan, Russel RB- Bell, Jennings, Gerhart, Ridley, F. Jackson WR- Thomas, Bryant, Patterson, Benjamin TE- Thomas, Bennett D- Sea K-Prater but, dropped after sspd and got Viniteri on a drop. I look at this list and wonder should I have Kelce instead of Bennett and J. Brown instead of Benjamin? Or is this too early to tell?

    1. The Juice,

Yes, welcome- we like John Brown BUT NOT more than Benjamin who we love. Having already rosters Julius Thomas, if you want to roll the dice on Kelce you could. He’s got breakout potential- Bennett you know more what you are getting- which is a serviceable starter.

Your RBs are VERY solid- if that’s Le’veon Bell and not Joique Bell

  4. Yeah it’s Le’veon Bell. ( I used the RW Cheat sheet)
    Thanks for the bounce.

  5. Hello, drafted in a 10 team standard league with W/R flex. My starters are QB-Matt Ryan, RB-Andre Ellington & Zac Stacy, WR-Demaryius Thomas & Percy Harvin, TE-Jimmy Graham, Flex-Chris Johnson, K-Blair Walsh, D-Chiefs. Bench is Phillip Rivers, Carlos Hyde, Ray Rice, Bernard Pierce, Michael Floyd & Kendall Wright. Jeremy Hill is still available and I heard how high you are on him. Should I pick him up and if so, should I drop Pierce? Also Matt Bryant is also available, should I get him over Walsh? Not sold on the Chiefs D, but I picked them in round 14…any better options there as they were the highest ranked D when I drafted. Last question, should I try and look for any other RB’s as my WR’s are clearly my strength. THANK YOU!

    1. SF1one-

Funny how we all see things so differently. We don’t believe you have any position of weakness. We believe your RB corps is about on par with you WR corps. We hate Pierce but since you own Rice- just in case- we’d keep him. Since you don’t own Gore- we’d prob swap Hyde for Hill. Both are rookies we like- in redraft leagues we have Hill rated higher for this season. In Dynasty or Keeper we like Hyde more because Gore is out after this season.

Walsh is fine at K. Bryant is a personal favorite of ours if you want a guaranteed 8-12 pts every week with the occasional monster. Sleeper defenses we like- Denver, New England, Tampa Bay. Good luck

  6. Hi, I have my first ever PPR Draft tonight in a 10 team league. I plan to use the cheat sheat that you guys provide. Does that apply to PPR leagues or just standard? Are there any players you guys are more high on than in the sheet for PPR purposes? We start a QB, 3WR, 2RB, TE, WR/RB/TE, K, DEF. It’s a full point PPR and also 6 points for passing TDs.

    1. nmarino028-

The sheet will work great as is in a PPR and/or a 6 pt pass TD league. We’d recommend considering Manning or Brees maybe a tiny bit higher- although they are prob fine right where they are.

Other guys you will want to bump up a smidgeon- Edelman, Garcon, Woodhead, Sproles, Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, etc

High volume reception RBs and WRs. Good luck.

      1. I posted, but meant to click reply down below…
and to add to that I forgot to put that I drafted mike evans and fred jackson too

  7. Thanks! I had the 7th pick and ended up picking Jimmy Graham. (Manning went #1 overall oddly enough). The rest of my team looks like this:
    QB- Luck
RB- Jennings, Gerhart, J. Bell, Blount, DMC, L. Miller
WR- Julio, Allen, Benjamin, Hunter, Britt
I also got Kelce as my backup TE… Robert Woods is still out there on waivers and Shonn Greene… I passed on both obviously. I am just not a fan of them really.
This is a 10 team league btw.
So, some players on waivers I am looking at are Woods, Stills, T. Austin, M. Lee, and John Brown at WR and Jonathan Stewart, Shonn Greene and Roy Helu at RB. Are there any guys on my roster worth swapping for more upside? I was thinking Helu over DMC maybe bc Helu might be a nice PPR guy. Or I can even target someone in a trade such as Vereen or Woodhead. Or do you guys think my roster is fine where it stands with starting Jennings and Gerhart at RB and either Bell, Miller, or Hunter in the flex?

    1. nmarino028-

We like all of those WR in this order Woods, Lee, Brown, Stills, Austin. Typically we see some value in Green here, but this is a ppr so we aren’t quite as interested. A trade for Vereen, Pierre Thomas, or Woodhead would be nice- Blount and Miller are the guys we would consider shipping. Usually we would say you could ship DMC- this is ppr and he’s going to get some receptions with Derek Carr in at QB- so we’d at least consider that. Helu will be interesting to watch for the first 2-3 weeks. We don’t love Lamar Miller- is a very droppable commodity if necessary. Your roster is great how it is. Don’t forget Jennings was at the top of the league in rec/start last yr as a rb- he’s sneaky good in ppr. Gerhart is a functional pass receiver as well. We like it. Bell and Hunter are nice flex options. Good luck

      1. Thanks for all the help! I will look into trading Miller, Blount, or DMC. And I have a sneaky suspicion about Helu being a PPR monster so I will look at him soon. I think I’m going to stay put with my WRs. Like I said in that other post, I forgot to put that I have Mike Evans there too and Fred Jackson at RB, who I got SUPER late! Okay last question for now: who do you guys like best at defense, Houston, buffalo, or Tampa? I currently own the first two but am going to drop one, but I can pick up the latter.

  8. nmarino028-

Have mercy Mike Evans! On the season we are currently most interested in TB. We think they can become the new Bears big-play type defense. But, there could be some down weeks in a division where points will be scored. Houston is an interesting option WK 1 at home vs WAS. We prob just roll here with TB at home vs CAR- with a slightly injured CAM and a whole new set of WR. Good luck.

  9. In my 3rd WR spot for a 10 team full point PPR league, I have to choose from Benjamin, Evans, and Justin Hunter. Assuming Josh Gordon doesn’t get to play Sunday. Who would you guys start?

    1. nmarino-
If Cam doesn’t play, go with Evans. If Cam plays, I have to go with Benjamin as his number one target.

      1. Exactly what I was thinking! Thanks!
