The Fantasy Fallout: Coming Into Week 13

If there’s one thing I’m certain of in life it’s that this is the best rookie receiving class I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. Here are some more thought’s on yesterday’s games:

Josh Gordon is officially back. Even though He and Brian Hoyer have a lot to work on timing-wise, Gordon amassed 120 yards like it was nothing. He’s going to put up obscene numbers on a weekly basis.

-Gordon’s presence actually opened things up for the other receivers on the team. He makes everyone better, and Andrew Hawkins (and to a lesser extent Miles Austin) are going to be viable plays as long as Jordan Cameron is out.

Isaiah Crowell had the monster game, but Terrance West actually out-touched him. Both will be playable going forward, but Crowell is the safest bet next week against the Bills who excel against the run, as he’s more of a goal-line threat.

-Mike Smith should be out of a job. This is at least the second time in a month that his poor clock management has lost the game for his team. Fortunately, they’re in the hapless NFC south, so they can still win the division even though they’re 4-7.

-None of the Bucs RBs looks good. Chicago has been run on all season, and Tampa can only put up 66 yards on the ground between 5 runners? Matt Forte had more than that by himself. Going forward, I actually think Doug Martin will be the most effective back.

Josh McCown is finally starting to look like the QB we saw in Chicago last year. You could have started Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson, or Louis Murphy and ended up with double-digit fantasy points.

-The only player in the  league with 500-plus yards on the ground and in the air, there’s an argument for drafting Forte with your number one pick next year, especially in PPR leagues..

Jeremy Hill only had 1 more carry than Bernard, but he looked like the more complete back, almost doubling his output. Bernard is better suited as a complement back.

-Looks like it’s back to Ryan Fitzpatrick in Houston unless the organization elects to throw rookie Tom Savage out the wolves. There goes Garrett Graham’s short-lived fantasy value.

-Don’t worry.  Toby Gerhart is not taking Robinson’s job, despite the poor showing versus Indy. Shoelace needs to work on his ball-security, though. Too many times recently he’s put the ball on the ground.

Marqise Lee had a nice game, but he’s still playing in 3 wide sets behind Allen Hurns and Cecil Shorts, and getting fed on one possession of red-zone targets. He’s a good athlete, but I think he has the worst hands of the bunch.

-I don’t think Dan Herron is going to take Trent Richardson out of the picture,  but they will split carries… with Herron having the most upside of the two.

-Now is the time to pick Donte Moncrief back up. Reggie Wayne is fading, and we know that the rookie has the talent to go big in that Indy offense.

Eddie Lacy is finally starting to pay off his owners even though he seriously looks 7-12 pounds overweight. The Packers will continue to lean on him, as teams focus their efforts on stopping the pass.

-Charles Johnson could be a decent flex play as we go into the playoffs. He’s only about as raw as Cordarrelle Patterson, and he’s a better athlete than Jennings at this point in their careers. Teddy Bridgewater seems to have locked onto the Cleveland castoff.

-Matt Stafford seems to have a short memory, and not the good kind that coaches say they like DBs to have. I thought he’d learned that you can throw to ball to Calvin Johnson in double coverage. He’s not like most other receivers.

-Yes, LeGarrette Blount had a stellar game. I wouldn’t be surprised if Jonas Gray out-carries him next week though. It’s the nature of Patriot games. Have fun with that.

– Now might be the time to pick up Tim Wright for a playoff run. Yes, he’ll be up and down, but most TEs are – and few have the red-zone prowess that Wright has.

-I knew Zach Mettenbgerger had it in him. The lead-footed rookie still has a lot of learning to do, but he’s going to be a decent QB2 on most weeks.

-With Mettenberger leaning on Delanie Walker so much, Kendall Wright looks like the odd man out as he excels in the short passing game.

-Don’t get excited about Justin Hunter’s performance. He’s going to continue to be a frustrating play this season. Don’t be the one to get hurt in the playoffs by starting him over a more consistent player.

-This Titans running game is a mess. I don’t feel right starting any of their backs.

Lesean McCoy is getting hot right in time for playoffs. Hopefully your team is still in contention if you own Shady. Unfortunately, many aren’t.

-It looks like Jordan Matthews may already be Mark Sanchez’s favorite target. He’s borderline WR1 material.

Kenny Britt is still worth a start. His 27-yard output was disappointing, but if you were watching you know he had a 50-yard TD called back on penalty. It seems like every member of the Rams had a scoring play called back in Week 12.

-Keep an eye on Stedman Bailey. Word is that he’s got the best hands on the Rams.

-I still think Branden Oliver is worth a flex in PPR leagues.

-Stanton sucked yesterday, but his running game has to be better for him. Look for Stepfan Taylor to get more reps.

-I’ve come to face it, probably way too late. This just isn’t going to be Michael Floyd’s year. He’s like a Ferrari being driven by your grandmother given these Cardinals QBs.

-I think John Brown has the best outlook for any Cardinals receiver going forward, and that includes dynasty.

-The Seahawks offense is struggling, but Russell Wilson will be a strong play on most weeks due to his ability to make plays with his feet.

-Do yourself a favor and watch Marshawn Lynch’s post-game interview on NFL.com. It might be the best thing you see this week…besides Odell Beckham’s catch.

-I’ve said it here before, Jarvis Landry is going to become Ryan Tannehill’s favorite receiver.

-There are few QBs I’d rather have going into the playoffs than Tannehill. He’s been the epitome of consistency.

-No Julius Thomas doesn’t mean much for Jacob Tamme or really even Wes Welker. It means that Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders are going to feast.

C.J. Anderson might stick in Denver. He looks like their best all-around back.

-It’s painful to watch Robert Griffin III in this offense. It might be best if he and the Redskins part ways. Crazy.

Anquan Boldin has emerged as the 49ers No.1 receiver, and Vernon Davis looks done.

-I’ve never seen a catch like the one Odell Beckham made last night. I’m pretty sure I blacked out for two minutes afterwards. We knew he was going to be a star when we saw him at LSU’s now-infamous (if only from RW’s perspective) pro day. I didn’t realize he’d be this dominant this early in his career though. He’s a must-start from here on out, if you didn’t already realize that.

-The Cowboys might have the best offensive line in football. Tony Romo should buy them all cars after this season.

-I don’t know if it’s because they’re still easing Rashad Jennings in, but the Giants’ persistent usage of Andre Williams has to be just a small bit disconcerting for Jennings owners.

  1. Hey guys. I have a trade question. .5PPR. Was offered delanie walker for Justin forsett. A.) is it acceptable? (I say no). B.) I’m looking to counter for graham. Here are our lineups. What do you think is a good offer? Thanks

    Me/him
    Luck/Romo
    Lynch/Ellington
    Forsett/Herron
    Julio/Hilton
    ODB/Baldwin
    MLewis/graham
    Bench
    RJennings/ball
    McKinnon/James jones
    Sanu/walker
    Reed/Rg3
    Flacco/Jthompson
    Britt/Deangelo

    1. A. No, it’s not acceptable.

The main reason trade offers fail to receive an acceptance is because people overvalue their own players and undervalue other teams’ players. It was a joke for him to offer Walker for Forsett. A middling TE for a top 10 RB. Stupid.

However, Graham is his best player. You can’t ignore that fact when you make your offer.

He’s mostly weak at RB and you’re mostly strong at RB. You’ll need to offer him one of your stud RBs (Lynch, Forsett or Jennings). Or, if he balks at that, you could offer him one of those stud RBs plus McKinnon. However, since he offered Walker for Forsett, it doesn’t seem like he’d accept a Graham for Forsett trade. You may have to give up your best RB (Lynch) for Graham.

      1. Understood. Thanks for the advice. would offering a package of julio and McKinnon or Jennings be too much? I trust ODB more than Julio at this point with the giants playing from behind mostly. But I want to make the trade believable. Is the combo of ODB and sanu enough to last through the playoffs?

    2. For Graham? I’d say Jennings and Lewis for Graham is a fair trade.

  2. What are some Defenses you might target for weeks 15 and 16 only. Have a top 2 seed locked in two leagues and looking forward to the last two weeks of playoffs, with a first week bye.

I’ve notice Tennesse plays vs. NYJ – wk 15 then @ Jax in week 16, Baltimore plays vs. JAX week 15, Miami has the Vikings in Miami week 16, Kansas City plays Oakland week 15…. Any thoughts?

    1. I have Cleveland (wk 15 home against Cincy, week 16 @ Carolina) and Green Bay (week 14 home against Atl, week 15 @ Buffalo, and week 16 @ Tampa Bay). (I started the Chargers this past weekend, but their remaining schedule isn’t good for the playoffs.) My only concern is picking which DST to start week 15 since I think both matchups will score some good points.)

Don’t be scared to pickup more than one DST and sit them for the playoff ride. I always have at least two dst’s on my bench at this time of year. Now that the BYE weeks are over, you can surely drop a player or two to shore up your playoff roster.

IMO, Tennessee doesn’t have enough play makers, has a low ceiling (top 3 scores all year are 17, 15, and 9), and has scored less than 5 points in over half their games. Too inconsistent.

I like the Ravens in week 15 and would pick them up myself if they weren’t taken in my league.

The dolphins at home against Minn is a tasty matchup also.

The Chiefs are too inconsistent (5 games with less than 5 pts) and only scored 4 against Oakland in Oakland on Thursday.

    2. I’d roll with Balt in wk 15 and Miami in wk 16. Both are playing really well right now.

  3. Julio, Dez, Kelvin Benjamin and Odell Beckham… Who do you sit?

    1. Wow, what a bunch of studs! Usually a tough decision, but for week 13, this should be the easiest decision you’ll have all year. Julio Jones is facing the amazing Arizona secondary while his QB gets put on his backside all game by that crazy good pass rush. Dez, Benjamin and Beckham will remain target monsters.

      1. Have the issue in a lot of leagues actually – good to have the issue but went WR-WR early, grabbed Benjamin in mid rounds and picked up Beckham a week or two before his return… So tough to sit Julio but I understand what you’re saying.

How about between Dez, Jeffery, Benjamin, Gordon, Beckham? Can only play 3

        1. this is an embarrassment of riches! Gordon, Beckham, and Dez would be my choices there.

    2. I’d probably sit Julio against Patrick Peterson and co.

Hey Rosterwatch, I am currently 1st in my league but have some serious concerns about the QB position heading into the playoffs, and about my team as it’s constructed. Here’s my lineup and it is a PPR league.
QB: McCown (Yes, McCown!) I’ve had a few other QBs I have added and dropped.
    WR: D. Thomas, E. Sanders, R. Cobb, A. Hurns
RB: Murray, Ellington, CJ Anderson, Blue, Vereen, Randle (handcuff to Murray)
    TE: Mychal Rivera
    DEF: PHI
QB Strategy: I think I can nab Brees but I would have to break up 1 of my Big 3 receivers. Should I make a trade or grab 1 of the following QBs off the wire-E. Manning, Flacco, Carr, Foles, Hoyer, Orton, Fitzpatrick, Bortles, Bridgewater, Mettenberger, RG3. I realize I may need to hold 2 QBS down the stretch for match ups.
My Team Strategy: Overall, do you have any recommendations? Should I have 2 DEFs? Is there any player I should drop?
    Any help is appreciated!

    1. If I was going to trade anyone it’d probably be Ellington. I think you can roll with Murray, Anderson, and Vereen considering it’s a ppr. With the poor QB play in Ari. teams are going to try to stop the run and make the Cards beat them in the air. I’d probably just waiver wire it on bad weeks for McCown though. I don’t think it’s ever necessary to carry two defenses. I matchup play them as well. You can drop Rivera if there’s a viable option on a better team.

Thanks man. I was just offered Stafford for Vereen and Ellington. Is that a good trade? (My roster is 2 comments above) or would just roll McCown and playing matchups?

    1. Don’t do it. Not worth it. Play the matchups
