2024 NFL Training Camp Tour – Tampa Bay vs. Jacksonville

On Wednesday, I stopped by Jacksonville Jaguars Training Camp for Stop No. 8 of the @RosterWatch Training Camp Tour. For more updates regarding the RosterWatch Training Camp tour, make sure to Follow RosterWatch on all social media platforms.
So far in 2024, the RosterWatch staff has attended the Rams, Raiders, Cowboys, Bears, Patriots, Giants, Commanders and now Buccaneers and Jaguars Training Camps in 2024 with many more on the docket in the days to come.

Here are my Top Thoughts from the day

– Three WR sets for Jacksonville featured Brian Thomas Jr., Gabe Davis, and Parker Washington playing out of the slot. (C.Kirk DNP)

– The Offensive Line in Jacksonville has been a talking point since the season ended. One of my favorite pre-draft prospects (Cody Barton), was playing on the opposite sideline today, and I can only imagine Trent Baalke was maybe sitting on his balcony thinking about Barton or the other OTs available in Round 1 this past spring, while his Quarterback was “essentially sacked 6 times during the scrimmage”

– Tank Bigsby looks every bit the aggressive downhill hammer he was expected to be out of college, exhibiting burst and growing vision. However, he had two bad fumbles that led to more D’Ernest Johnson as the practice went on

– Camp Comparison: Trevor Lawrence has great control/leadership of this team, however when you compare the pocket maneuverability, accuracy, arm talent, and cut-throat attitude to Jayden Daniels in Washington (My Monday stop), I think I prefer Daniels.

– Elijah Cooks is an interesting Fringe Top 250 Dynasty Player. He projects to be the WR6 in this offense, behind Davis/Thomas.

– Evan Engram will continue to be a focal point in the center of the field for this offense, however a repeat 143 target season (14th all-time at TE), feels a bit aggressive ATM.

– Parker Washington 2025.

– The Biggest Offensive Takeaway, starts and finishes with Brian Thomas Jr. – Kirk was out for what looked like “rest”, and the offense was pretty balanced throughout with a ETN/Davis lean, however, there was a focus on pushing the ball north, and south to BTJ. He is not ready to be a route world beater, tomorrow – but you can already see the 2023 LSU Thomas on display in Duval.

– Three WR sets for Tampa Bay featured Jalen McMillan, Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin playing out of the slot (often inside of Evans).

– Rachaad White no longer looks 214 lbs, when we saw him at the Senior Bowl in 2022, where he weighed 214, there was room to grow in the upper body. White is filled out now, with an even stronger base. I’d guestimate just north of 220 lbs with ease.

– Behind White, Bucky Irving pops for a rookie but not to the level of reporting we have seen to this point in camp. Irving will be a complimentary satellite back in 2023, while Sean Tucker is a situational type who showed his hands out of the backfield on Tuesday with an explosive screen play up the sideline.

– This Defensive Line is STRONG and created havoc all day in Jacksonville… Vea / Gholston / Kancey / Tryon / Hall and that’s while they prep Rookie Chris Braswell for duty.

– The Biggest Offensive Takeaway was Mike Evans and Chris Godwin looked like their same old self, however, I couldn’t look past the overall focus on Godwin in totality. Evans will always be a RZ magnet with his abilities to contort, compete in contested situations, and create separation – however, in 2024.. I’d be drafting Chris Godwin head-up

– DEEP Dynasty Camp Watch-List Addition: Kameron Johnson, WR (Barton College) – All-Conference honors in his final two seasons after posting a combined 95 receptions for 1,445 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns.
