Scouting Notes:
Antwane Wells began his collegiate career at James Madison (FCS) after receiving just 4 offers, each from the FCS level. Growing up in Richmond, Virginia, Wells graduated from Highland Spring High School in 2019 before attending Fork Union Military Academy as a prep student that fall. 117 players who attended Fork Union Military Academy have been drafted or signed by NFL teams, including Plaxico Burress, Eddie George, and Carlos Hyde, to name a few.
After Fork Union, Wells attended James Madison University for two seasons, starting 18 games and accumulating 1,853 yards and 21 touchdowns on 116 receptions. That wasn’t his last stop as in 2022 Wells packed up again and headed south to the University of South Carolina, where he played with Spencer Rattler and officially broke out at the Division 1 level with 68 receptions, 928 yards, and 6 touchdowns. Earning 2022 All-SEC first-team honors and Phil Steele Honorable Mention All-American honors.
As a prospect, Wells shows flashes of dynamism in the short and intermediate areas, despite not seemingly being the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd read on the majority of plays at Ole Miss he was still able to show his skills as a route runner and as an athlete, tying his 2022 total with 6 touchdowns. His time he averaged 19.8 yards per reception, rather than 13.6 in 2022 at South Carolina. Wells struggled with drops in 2024, but his track record and hand strength in one-handed opportunities shows potential for improvement, but may be an issue with simply having such small hands. He is an overall athlete with Day 2 abilities, however beginning his career at Age 24 with a roller coaster in his past, he settles in with a 4th-round grade in the 2025 NFL Draft.
