30-and-Older Players Who Could Save Your Fantasy Season
The NFL is a young man’s game, but there are still plenty of older (boring) players who you should consider adding to your rosters this season. Don’t sleep on the guys because they’re long in the tooth, as they could come back to haunt you come playoff time.
Fred Jackson: The Bills will run the ball more than anyone else in the league this year. Lesean McCoy can’t take all of the action, Bryce Brown isn’t improving, and Karlos Williams projects to be more of a special teams guy. Looks like a job for F-Jax.
Steve Smith Sr.: The senior citizen himself. Smith says this is his last year, and I think he intends to go out with a bang. Breshad Perriman and perhaps Kamar Aiken will get opportunities, but only Smith is guaranteed to be on the field all of the time as long as he’s healthy. Smith’s 8th round ADP makes him a great draft-day value, as he could easily post 1,000+ yards and 5+ TDs this year.
Andre Johnson: Many like Johnson as a Colt, but I LOVE him in his new home. Missed out on a true WR1 in the first couple of rounds? Take a chance on an old man in Johnson.
Frank Gore: Another former stud gets a new lease on football life in Indy. Missed out on a true RB1 in the first couple rounds? You know the drill…
Ryan Fitzpatrick: In all honesty, Fitz might perform just as well or better than Geno Smith would have to start the season. Geno’s teammates hate him so much he’ll be eating through a straw for a while. Fitz-pee-pee could get real comfortable tossing the ball to Brandon Marshall again and again. He’s no stranger to the AFC East either.
Nate Washington: The de facto No. 2 in Houston right now, Washington should remain in the mix all year. He’s a solid bye-week fill in.
Delanie Walker: Coming off just under 900 yds last season, Walker is poised to have another big year with Marcus Mariota under center and a shaky receiving corps/
Owen Daniels: He’ll split time with Virgil Green, but there’s always room as a tight end in a Peyton Manning offense, especially with Manning’s arm getting weaker. He’s going to shorten his passing game.
Stevie Johnson: Ok, he’s only 29, but you wouldn’t have blinked if I told you Johnson was in his thirties, he’s been kicking it around the league for so long. It looks like he might finally have the year his talent deserves though as a Charger in 2015. We think he’s interchangeable with Keenan Allen in drafts and actually stands a good chance of outperforming him in fantasy.
Malcolm Floyd: Floyd had the best season of his career last year, and even with Allen and Johnson stealing looks in 2015, neither one of them stretches the field like Floyd.
Jason Witten: Look for Witten to bounce back in a Cowboys offense that is going to rely on the pass much more often this year.
Darren Sproles: Too many running backs in Philly? No worries, just move Sproles out to receiver. The Eagles are going to find a way to get Sproles on the field, even if it’s primarily as a pass catcher.
Roddy White: White posted an 80-catch, 900+ yard, 7 TD season in 2014, all despite his injury woes. Even with a supposedly lesser role, White will again be a WR2 force to be reckoned with in PPR leagues.
Jacob Tamme: The pass-catching TE in Atlanta, Tamme is a low-risk flier in fantasy with considerable upside. OC Kyle Shanahan loves going to his ends.
Vincent Jackson: Jackson has only put up one sub-1,000 yard season in the past 7 years, and I don’t expect having Jameis Winston as his QB is going to change that trend. Look for him to improve on his 2 TD effort too.
Larry Fitzgerald: Fitzgerald is going to put up at least WR2 numbers this season as Carson Palmer’s most reliable target.
Carson Palmer: Speaking of Mr. Personality, Palmer is the healthiest he’s been in a long time, and he has all of the toys he could want at his disposal. If he stays upright, Palmer will finish a top 10 QB in fantasy.
Anquan Boldin: Boldin is never a sexy pick, but I can’t help but notice that he’s usually on at least one of the teams that’s playing in the finals of whatever league I’m playing in. Coincidence? I think not. He reeks of consistency, and I know about things that reek.
Vernon Davis: He can’t be as bad as he was last year, can he? The year before last season’s stinker saw Davis with 13 TDs and 850 yards, so loss of a step can’t fully account for the dropoff we saw in 2014. Let’s hope the new 49ers staff works him back into their plans. Lack of many top tier tight ends this year makes Davis an intriguing late-round flier.

any chance a 1/2 pt. ppr cheat sheet comes out ? 🙂
The standard version of the Cheat Sheet is awesome for 1/2 pt PPR- best of luck!
Trashman,
I need help choosing my keeper players. I am in a standard league on ESPN (1 QB) in which you get to keep four players from your previous season. I have 5 strong players and don’t know who I should drop.
The 5 players I currently have are : Andrew Luck, LeSean McCoy, Odell Beckham JR, Dez Bryant, and Jimmy Graham.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam
Adam, do you know what spot you’ll be drafting from?
Nope, snake draft randomized 1 hr prior to draft. Keepers have to be set before.
In that case, I would drop Graham. He himself stated that he plans on blocking 75% of the time. If you’re happy with your other starters, there’s a good chance Gronk could fall to you.
Its a 12 team league, Gronk will be a kept player on one of the other teams. As well as Kelce, Olsen and Martellus Bennett
I would still drop Graham out of those 5. If you can’t get him back, I would aim for Jordan Cameron, 2 tds the other night from Tannehill, or Julius Thomas.
