Scouting Notes:

Green-Beckham is without a doubt one of the most physically gifted receiving prospects to come along in recent years. He’d have to be to forego playing even one snap at Oklahoma, where he transferred to from Missouri, before entering the draft. At 6’6’’, he possesses a catch radius that is basically unrivaled, and he glides like a gazelle downfield. Green-Beckham can hang out in the air for what seems like days, high-pointing over defenders with ease. Because he’s so naturally talented, Green-Beckham hasn’t had to improve intangible aspects of his game like blocking and route running, and that could hurt him at the next level. Though, it’s hard to dispute the potential of someone who was at one point the most accomplished high school WR in recorded history. He led his former team Missouri in catches and TD grabs in his one full year as a starter there. If Green-Beckham has one major flaw, it’s his off-field activity. He was dismissed from Missouri for two drug offenses involving marijuana, and he’s lacked stability for much as his life as a foster child who was in and out of homes frequently. The latter is by no means a flaw, but it may lend to his questionable behavior.

Fantasy Outlook:

Green-Beckham’s off-field issues can be a blessing or a curse. He could go the route of a Josh Gordon from this point, or he might straighten out his life like a Dez Bryant – only time will tell. Character issues and a slight frame might very well scare off some would be NFL suitors, but someone will take a chance on the kid, likely in the 2nd to 4th round, as he has a chance to be the next Randy Moss. For a current player comparison, I liken Green-Beckham to A.J. Green of Cincinnati- another gangly, fleet footed leaper who can dominate defenders. I think DGB’s worth a first-round pick in dynasty leagues pre-NFL draft based on his potentially game-breaking ability. He’ll be a fantasy force to be reckoned with, should he keep his head on straight and bulk up.
