RosterWatch Week 7 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only traditional “fantasy points against” metrics (schedule-adjusted after 3 weeks of play), but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2022 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow/pace, sportsbook indicators, volume of total projected snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you roster Colts WR Michael Pittman, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Colts (Pittman’s team). You will see that the Colts’ opponent (OPP) is the Tennessee Titans in Week 7, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the TITANS’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the COLTS, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the TITANS). In the “OPP vs. WRs” cell for the Colts, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means that Pittman faces our best possible matchup for opposing WRs in Week 7 (the Titans). This is a great indicator for fantasy managers of Pittman, and is a positive sign for those thinking of rostering him, or other members of the Indy WR group, in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: Vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference. The Vegas lines are updated hourly for your reference and research. Please note that matchup ratings can change slightly through the week as lines and totals shift, or as injuries to key defensive personnel occur.

1 is the best (easiest) matchup, 32 is the worst (toughest).

  1. Need Input,

12 team. Full point ppr. 3-3 record.

    1) With Hurts on bye would you prefer Matt Ryan, Jimmy G, Daniel Jones, or Tannehill as a by week filler? (Opponent starting Aiyuk and Kittle if it matters)

    2) Would you start Olave or Swift in the flex this week?

    3) Would you trade Swift for AJ Brown? (Other rb’s= Henry, Jacobs, Breece, Allgeier, Melvin (probably gonna throw him to the package too) (Other wr’s=waddle, ceedee, olave)

    Thanks

All of those QBs in a similar tier. Jimmy G represents the YAC players. We prefer DJ in this case, but all are good plays. Matt Ryan has the hot game

  2. CMC or Jonathan Taylor ROS?

    1. Post By Alan Seslowsky

Similar bucket to where we strated. JT floor play CMC upside. Likely CMC if put to the test

      1. Sounds reasonable. I’m a JT owner, so kinda jaded by how slowly he started.

It’s not like the QB situation is ideal for either Carolina or Indy, but I want what I don’t have.

  3. 10-team .5 PPR | 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE, 1 Flex

Looking to free up some space on my bench as I’ve got Taylor and Swift on IR. I’m not against leaving them there this week since I’m fortunate to have Breece Hall, Ken Walker and Zeke to fill in my two RBs and one flex spot.

Eventually I want to move Zeke, but ideally after a big game vs. DET.

Trying to pair Brian Robinson and George Pickens to potential suitors. What feels best and fair?
    BRob and Pickens for:
    – Gallup
    – Patterson
    – Could I pry away Sutton or Jeudy?
    – Any other recommended targets?

Primary goal is to consolidate, but with upside value to use or trade later.

    1. I think Sutton is probably the best get, but I’m not sure he’s worth it. You might want to aim for a premier player on bye this week

  4. Post By chase.smith@utexas.edu

.5 PPR. Trade away Brian Robinson and Valdes-Scantling for Pickens and Alec Pierce?

My other RBs are CMac, Chubb, Dameion Pierce, mostert, Herbert, Boone.

Other WRs metcalf, amari cooper, devonta smith, olave, Toney.

    1. Ik you can get them, yes.

  5. 2-4 in 10 team ppr. Got offered Tyler Lockett for Najee. Thoughts?

    QB: Geno
RB: Najee, Kamara, Breece, Jeff Wilson Jr
WR: AJ Brown, Sutton, Keenan Allen, Aiyuk, C Samuel

    1. I don’t really think you need WR, now that Allen is returning. Also Elijah Mitchell is set to return in a couple of weeks, so Wilson may not pan out for much longer

  6. Higbee or Tonyan ROS?

  7. I tend to lean HIgbee. Tonyan’s bump was likely an after effect of Cobb going down.

  8. Allen on bye, who would you start Heinicki, Mariota, Tannerhill or Pickett..
    Thanks RW..

    1. Post By Alan Seslowsky

TH and Mariotta have that rushing upside. One of those, leaning MM. Pickett may play but not 100% so you ant put him in.

  9. Need a wr and a flex in a full ppr from this group of 4 (Rondale, D London, Jeudy or B Robinson). Obviously R Moore plays tonight. Thanks guys

    1. Post By Alan Seslowsky

We recommend Rondale and Drake Lonodon. Both are upside plays. BR is a nice floor play but he is very TD dependent

  10. Question on WR ranking as I’m having a hard time benching Davante Adams for Mike Wiliams!!

Why is Davante ranked so much lower this week? In the matchup tool, Williams faces #15 defense against WR while Adams faces #16 defense. I have Jamarr Chase as my WR1 so looking to decide on WR2.

Do I really start Williams over Adams?

    1. Post By Alan Seslowsky

At the end of the day use the tool to guide your choices, not make the choices for you. If you feel the data doesn’t matchup with what you feel is the right play, you have permission to play Adams. Gut is important too. Good luck!

  11. Full PPR
Who would you drop Samuel or Doubs?

    1. Post By Alan Seslowsky

Curtis Samuel is interesting with the QB change.

  12. Start/sit predicament on the same team for competing spots.

    10-team .5 PPR | 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE, 1 Flex.
    2-4 on the season.

End of the day, I need two WR, two RB, 1 Flex. Eight players for five spots.

    Potential options:
    WR [2]: Tyreek Hill, Waddle/Olave
    RB [2] Hall/Walker/Taylor/Swift
    Flex [1]: Olave/Zeke/Hall/Walker/Taylor/Swift

Is this an embarrassment of riches despite the 2-4 start? I mined that WW gold to grab Ken Walker and consolidated to get Zeke with the intention on flipping him after his big game this week.

  13. 10 team PPR 3-3, Play 1QB 3WR 2RB 1Flex 1TE No IR spots
    Me: 5 player bench league

    TE QUESTION: PPR
Someone dropped DWaller! Also available: Dulcich, DSchultz HHurst
I usually do not carry 2 TE, but because of Pitts I do right now
Should I drop THill and pick up one of the TE above? or just drop THill and pick up another player (see available players below)

    QB QUESTION:
I have DAK Prescott and Geno Smith
I usually do not carry 2 QB, But I dropped RWilson for GenoSmith last week and Someone dropped Dak so I got him
Should I drop Geno Smith now to make room on my bench? Or wait for the 1st Dak outing to decide

    WR QUESTION: PPR
I have 3 WR spots to fill, so my depth is shaky
Available on Waiver: AlecPierce, RBateman, MGallup, JDotson JamesonWilliams DMooney RAnderson, Marq Brown(injured and no IR spot in my league)
Drop a player or 2 (my extra QB and extra WR) and pick up 2 of these?
