Cut Bait or Just Wait: Who to Keep, Who to Drop in Fantasy Football Week 10

Each of us has that player on our team that has a big name – or a stellar performance just under the surface – that is keeping them on our rosters. Things change quickly in fantasy though, and the key is to know when to disregard the pedigree and move on to new blood or stick with it for one more week. Here’s my take on what to do with some of the guys who are giving owners fits in fantasy going into Week 10

Zac Stacy RB, Rams: Stacy has been relegated to third back status in the Rams running game behind Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham, and that’s bad news for his owners. Mason can run with the power of Stacy, but he’s also more agile. Cunningham fills in the passing back role. Together, they leave Stacy without much purpose. What’s crazy is that Stacy is owned in over half of fantasy leagues while Mason is owned in just over 35% of them. I thought I’d never say this going into the season, but Stacy is droppable in all but the deepest of leagues. Cut Bait

James Jones WR, Raiders: Jones has been underperforming over the last several weeks, but he has one thing going for him, and that’s the fact that the Raiders are playing Denver this week. He’s worth a flex for that reason. Just Wait.

Eddie Royal WR, Chargers: After two straight sub 30 yd games, Royal went and dropped a big zero for his owners last week. This is all after a four game stretch where he was averaging over 13 points. Those who have played fantasy for awhile realize that this is nothing new for Royal. It’s what we’ve come to expect in fact. Still he’s a terribly frustrating guy to deal with, and you’d be better off leaving him to be someone else’s headache.

Tim Wright TE, Patriots: Wright’s fantasy season has been up and down to the point that he’s unownable outside of dynasty leagues. Sure, he could go and get 50 yds and a TD this weekend, or he could get you absolutely nothing, which has happened as recently as last week. Chances are he’s going to hurt you more often than help you. Cut Bait

LeGarette Blount RB, Steelers: Blount hasn’t topped 5 fantasy pts since week 3. If you’re not a Bell owner, then he doesn’t need to be taking up space on your team. Cut Bait

Benny Cunningham RB, Rams: What’s good for the goose isn’t always good for the gander. Though Stacy owners should probably close the book on him for the time being, Cunningham is a nice flex play in PPR leagues, and his owners should keep him around. Just Wait

Donte Moncrief WR, Colts: Sigh, I had such high hopes for Moncrief, but he has been pushed way back in the mix after his breakout game just two weeks ago. It’s infuriating that he got only one target on Monday, and it just shows that his time is not yet come. He’s droppable outside of keeper and dynasty leagues. Cut Bait

Austin Davis QB, Rams: Davis was another player who looked really promising before backsliding to fantasy obscurity. To his credit, Davis’ recent slate of bad games came against really tough opponents. The bad news is that it’s not going to get any easier for him, as he plays some of the best defenses in the league over the next several weeks. You might be better suited to try on Ryan Mallett for size. Cut Bait.
