Mike Evans/Chris Godwin
Age: 29/26
Movement: Falling
Previous Rank: WR26/WR18
Updated Rank: WR30/WR22
I combined Evans and Godwin here as both of their fantasy fates are tied up in the retirement of Tom Brady, inarguably the best NFL QB of all-time – Whoever follows him up as QB for Tampa will almost certainly be a downgrade. Their previous QB, Jameis Winston, at least had an arm to get them the ball pretty effectively most of the time, but another gunslinger with a cannon is not a certainty by any means. What’s worse is that Tampa doesn’t seem to have the budget to bring in a big name like Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers, so they may have to settle with the likes of Jimmy Garoppolo, Blaine Gabbert, or worse. Until we see signs of a brighter future for these two, I have to drop them down on the rungs.

Jimmy Garoppolo
Age: 31
Movement: Falling
Previous Rank: QB29
Updated Rank: QB32
I’m fairly sure that 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan was the only thing keeping the exceedingly unimpressive Garoppolo afloat in San Fran, well him and Deebo Samuel, who could take Garoppolo’s 5 yard dump-offs and turn them into 35 yard scores. After winning two playoff games seemingly in spite of Jimmy , and then losing the NFC Championship at his hands, the 49ers are not going to bring the 31 year-old liability back in 2022. His ability to not entirely screw the pooch, most of the time, will give him a shot elsewhere, but Garoppolo is unlikely to have the caliber of supporting cast that bolstered him in San Fran wherever he ends up. At age 31, it’s hard to start anew in the NFL, especially when you’re not that good in the first place.

Daniel Jones
Age: 25
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank: QB26
Updated Rank: QB25
Jones hit the Brian Daboll sweepstakes at season’s end, when the Giants were able to steal the QB whisperer from the clutches of Buffalo’s icy grip. Much like Josh Allen a couple years ago, Daniel Jones is strong(ish) armed and erratic with his throws. If anyone can help right his course, it’s Daboll, who is (seemingly) a major reason why Allen is one of the best QBs in the game today. At only 25, and loaded with a plethora of offensive weapons, Jones can still salvage a career should he be able to take what Daboll gives him and turn it into consistent fantasy production.
