Derek Carr, Raiders
Age: 31
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank: QB21
Updated Rank: QB19
Carr has rarely been of interest to me in fantasy, but he ended up a top 12 QB in fantasy last year, and more importantly he’s reuniting with his former college WR Davante Adams this season. Now there’s serious doubt as to whether Adams will approach the kind of numbers he did with Aaron Rodgers under center in GB, but there’s no doubt that Adams is the best WR Carr has played with in his NFL career. The rapport is already there, so Carr should come out of the gates firing to his new no.1. Recently signed to a 3-year extension, Carr is sitting pretty at the helm of an improving Raiders squad.
Anthony Kirkser, Falcons
Age: 27
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank: TE34
Updated Rank: TE32
Firkser didn’t do much in Tennessee during his tenure there, but no offensive skill player not named Henry or Brown has had much to say for themselves over the last couple of seasons. Firkser gets a new lease on football life in Atlanta, where it’s just fellow TE Kyle Pitts and a handful of no name receivers right now in the receiving corps. It makes sense that new QB Marcus Mariota would lean on his TEs heavily in year one, so Firkser stands to benefit considerably, even with Pitts ahead of him on the depth chart. Unless Atlanta improves their WR group drastically in the draft, Firkser could develop into a weekly streaming option.
Sammy Watkins, Packers
Age: 29
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank: Unranked
Updated Rank: WR79
Watkins was just signed to a $4 million dollar, one-year deal by the Packers, who are currently in dire need of WR help. There are a wide range of outcomes for the 29-year-old Watkins, who has played only one full season of football in his NFL career, one of which being the no.1 WR option for Green Bay this season. This particular outcome seems unlikely with the draft still ahead of us, but Watkins now needs to be taken seriously in fantasy until otherwise noted. It’s just a one-year deal though, so his dynasty bump remains conservative.
