Dynasty Rankings Update: 4/4/23

Mac Jones
Age: 25
Movement: Falling
Previous Rank: 160
Updated Rank: 167
It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of Jones’ play, but until recently it didn’t really matter, as Bill Belichick supported the young QB wholeheartedly. When recently asked about a possible competition between Jones and 2nd year pro Bailey Zappe though, Belichick was less bullish on his endorsement, saying “Everybody will get a chance to play. We’ll play the best players.” Zappe, the FBS single season record holder in yards and TDs, led the Pats to a 2-0 record in 2 starts last season and could find himself under center come season’s start. Jones is falling back to earth in myriad ways.

Samaje Perine
Age: 28
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank: 217
Updated Rank: 213
Perine could somehow find himself as the lead back in Denver, until Javonte Williams returns from his ACL tear that is, as none of the 4 backs spelling Williams last year is currently on Denver’s roster. It seems likely that the Broncos will add depth in the draft, but Perine showed he can be a capable 3-down back during his time in Cincy and should have the inside track to start in September unless Denver takes a stud. At worst, Perine should be the team’s main 3rd down back.

Irv Smith
Age: 25
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank: 223
Updated Rank: 220
Smith missed all of 2021 (knee) and much of 2022 (ankle) with injury, but the talented TE gets a prove it deal with the perennial Super Bowl contender Bengals in 2023. TEs accounted for 17% of Cincy’s target share in 2022, so Smith has a real shot at fantasy relevancy on his new team.
