Russell Gage
Age: 27
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank WR85
Updated Rank WR71
The recent retirement of Rob Gronkowski, paired with the news that Chris Godwin may start the season on the PUP list, has catapulted Gage’s stock this week. Right now it appears that he could enter the 2022 season as the no.2 receiving option in Tampa, behind only Mike Evans. The height of Gage’s ceiling in Tom Brady‘s offense is debatable, but his floor is higher than many second receiving options, so I’ve given him a healthy boost in our rankings. Of course, TE Cameron Brate gets a bump as well.
Alvin Kamara
Age: 27
Movement: Falling
Previous Rank RB7
Updated Rank RB22
Kamara is looking down the barrel of at least a 6 game suspension, in the aftermath of an incident in Vegas in which he assaulted a man. The only real question here is when will the suspension occur? The NFL prefers to make their moves after the dust has been settled in criminal court, but with the chance that discipline happens sooner rather than later, I have to drop Kamara behind full blown starters for now.
Jacoby Brissett
Age: 29
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank Unranked
Updated Rank QB35
Deshaun Watson‘s hopes of playing this season seem to diminish day by day, and we have to be realistic about how we respond to the impending suspension, which could keep him off the field for an entire season. Should Watson have to sit out the season, Jacoby Brissett appears to be the frontrunner to start under center for the Browns come September. I suppose Baker Mayfield could come around somehow, but the relationship with the Browns seems to have soured too much for a reconciliation. Brissett would be a far cry from Watson, when we talk about fantasy potential, and all skill players would see a dip in their respective stocks. While it hasn’t happened yet, I have to get Brissett on the board as the potential day one starter for Cleveland.
