Scouting Notes: Booker is a deceptively powerful back — a talent that can be attributed to his low, forward leaning running style and compact build. He doesn’t have much of a second gear, but his his excellent vision and strong first cut make Booker’s first gear enough — most of the time. He also avoids slowing down when changing direction. He keeps his pads low and extends plays by barreling through defenders rather than tiptoeing around. In the passing game, Booker has soft hands and turns upfield quickly after the catch. On the downside, his blocking is adequate but seems half-hearted at times.
Fantasy Outlook: Booker will probably be drafted in the 2nd round, though teams are wary of his football I.Q. He’s also returning from a knee injury that raises questions about his durability. He’s the complete package as a running back, though, and his high production at Utah is a testament to his prowess on the ground. Booker is old for a rookie, he’s only a few months younger than LeVeon Bell, so that could serve as a blessing or a curse — he might be a bit more mature than most rookies, but he’s also got some wear, which can be deadly for running backs’ careers and devalues them in dynasty. In a zone scheme, Booker could be extremely effective in the NFL if he can gain a little muscle without losing what speed he has. He’s an all-around back, and staying on the field is worth its weight in gold in fantasy. He’s well worth a top 5 RB pick in dynasty as a fringe first-round talent in rookie drafts.
