NFL Comparison: Poor Man’s Dez Bryant

Scouting Notes:

Baylor coach Art Briles’ offense has produced a number of NFL starters at the receiver position over the last several years. But of those players, such as  Terrance Williams, Kendall Wright, and Josh Gordon, only Goodley was an All-American during his time in Waco. That’s pretty good company to be in. Sort of a combination of those three, Goodley is compact like Wright, well-built like Williams, and he can stretch the field like Gordon – though he doesn’t have the hands of any of those guys.

His rather small hands sometimes fight the ball away. Where Goodley excels is in the yard-after-catch department. The Bears often used him in the slot and on slants where he would just eat up the field after his receptions – he’s got breakaway speed and quick acceleration for his size. His athleticism and YAC ability remind me of a poor man’s Dez Bryant. He’s built like an Anquan Boldin, but Goodley is more explosive and plays faster than that. He was able to catch a lot of balls at Baylor, but their system left him with a limited route tree, something he’ll have to improve on the next level. He was not a standout to the RosterWatch crew at the Senior Bowl, but it’s important to note that outside of Jamison Crowder, Goodley drew the most rave reviews of any receiver in Mobile when asking DBs who was best.

Fantasy Outlook:

Goodley has experience as a returner and in the running back position, so that helps his draft stock some. His questionable hands, raw route running, and lack of effort on plays he’s not involved in – something else that reminds me of Byrant, makes Goodley more of mid-round pick in my mind. It’s doubtful that he’ll be a first year contributor in fantasy for these same reasons. If he can polish up his game over time, Goodley has the intangibles to make a fantasy impact on any team. His play breaking prowess means that he doesn’t need a ton of volume to fill up the stat sheet. Should he land on a receiver needy squad, Goodley is a mid-round dynasty flier.
