Garbage Grab: Deep Running Back Sleepers

Back-of-the-Pack to Relevant Back
Either long forgotten or never really known, these preseason overachievers have all made inroads to fantasy relevance since the start of training camps…

Zack Moss, Bills
Normally, a player of Moss’ capabilities rearing their head in camp would be cause for celebration in fantasy, but Moss’ resurgence only muddies what was an already tentative situation in the Bills backfield. Rookie James Cook is already vying for 3rd down reps with Devin Singletary. In fact, Cook may get some series as well, as he’s a capable between the tackles runner. Moss just minimizes the fantasy potentials of both of those backs and does little to boost his own stock, as he’s not going to take a starting job outright. I’m staying away from this backfield in drafts right now.

Joshua Kelley, Chargers
As much as I’d love Isaiah Spiller to secure the backup role behind Austin Ekeler in L.A., it appears as if Kelley has all but secured the job to start the season. Kelley has been the first back to appear behind Ekeler in 11 on 11 drills in camps, and has played primarily with the ones. He also started the Chargers first preseason game against the Rams. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities that Spiller wins the job at some point in the season, but Kelley needs to be on your radar in the latter part of season long drafts. He could offer flex value in plus situations.

Jaylen Warren, Steelers
Warren, an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State, has been turning heads in camp. In the Steelers preseason opener, Warren showed off a 5.7 YPC average on the ground and displayed pass-catching chops with a 4-30-1 line. This comes as somewhat of a surprise, as Warren failed to distinguish himself at the combine, though he was a productive back in college. This is a story because Warren looks like a strong contender for the backup role in Pittsburgh, behind Najee Harris. If Warren secures the role, and Harris were to go down at any point in the season, Warren would be in for major volume. He needs to be rostered in dynasty leagues.

All of these garbage grabs went from not having ADPs (undrafted) to proactive picks in the late rounds. I do not know how the Trashman does it!
