Is Miles Austin in Danger of Being Released?
Miles Away

Two years ago, the idea of the Cowboys letting Miles Austin go would seem absurd to even casual fans of America’s favorite product. However, things change ever so quickly in the NFL, and despite reports, it seems very much within the realm of possibility that Dallas intends on releasing the veteran receiver as it would save the franchise $3.6 million against the cap.
In 2009 and 2010, Austin logged over 1,000 yds and at least 8 TDs in each of those seasons, but leg injuries in 2011 and the following year brought a decline in his production—and apparently the faith of his team.
Still, I find it difficult to believe that the Cowboys would release a receiver that is proven and tested, considering that they are so weak at the position right now. Kevin Ogletree has already been rumored to be on the chopping block, and the rotation of receivers that chipped in while Austin was out last season failed to leave much of an impression. My guess is that the team restructures Austin’s deal and gives him the benefit of the doubt regarding his injury history. Even so, I expect him to see some new competition at the position come this fall.
