A handful of quarterback moves have gone through over the past week, bringing some new hope but many more questions.

Nnamdi Asomugha, San Francisco 49ers: Asomugha, once, a shut-down corner, will have to compete with Carlos Rogers for a starting job in San Fran should they decide to keep Rogers around. Should they release him, Asomugha may suffice as serviceable with such a strong cast of players surrounding him.

Carson Palmer QB, Arizona Cardinals: If playing under Bruce Arians doesn’t reinvigorate Palmer’s career, nothing will. Palmer has a real chance to get his Mojo back with the pass heavy Arians calling plays and with Larry Fitzgerald to dish the ball to. I’m more excited for Fitzgerald’s outlook here, as he has been relegated to mediocrity for the past few years due to incompetent quarterback play.

Steve Smith WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Smith has been almost invisible since his 2010 microfracture surgery, but the move reunites him with former OC Mike Sullivan under whom Smith flourished as a Giant. With Vincent Jacksn and Mike Williams ahead of him, I don’t see Smith making much of an impact even if he sticks in Tampa.

Matt Flynn QB, Oakland Raiders: Flynn sure does make a lot of money holding a clip-board. He made 8 million in Seattle last year, and he’ll make 6.5 million this season as a Raider. Sure he could end up starting, but it’s certainly not a lock, and he’s not a long term solution anyway. I’m not sure what GM Reggie Mckenzie is thinking on this one or any of his moves thus far, really.

Darius Heyward-Bey WR, Indianapolis Colts: It looks like the rich are getting richer in Indianapolis, as they add another very capable receiver to the mix that includes Reggie Wayne, T.Y. Hilton, and LaVon Brazill. A former no.7 pick, Heyward-Bey never quite lived up to his expectations in Oakland, but then he didn’t have someone like Andrew Luck throwing him the ball. With 4.3 speed, DHB could be a part of some big plays this year.

Colt McCoy QB, San Francisco 49ers:  This is a much better fit for McCoy than the Browns, and there’s a good chance he ends up being direct backup to Colin Kaepernick. With the way Kaepernick throws himself around the field, I wouldn’t be surprised if he sees action this season.

Kevin Kolb QB, Buffalo Bills: Kolb signed a two year contract with the Bills worth 13 million on Saturday. He is quietly one of the most overpaid players in the league, in my opinion, considering this and his huge Arizona contract a few years back. I don’t see Kolb as much, if any, of an improvement on former signal caller Ryan Fitzpatrick, but he should beat out Tarvaris Jackson for the starting job in Buffalo. With such a dynamic running game, Kolb shouldn’t be asked to do too much besides not throw a ton of picks.
