Mike Goodson to the Raiders is a Great Fit

Another subtle yet solid move by the Oakland Raiders new front office. It has been a quiet but effective offseason. Although I was still semi-interested in the development of project OG Bruce Campbell, I really like the trade for former Panthers RB Mike Goodson. Goodson is a player I have admired from afar for some time now. He is a dynamic talent that was in a logjam behind two other well paid RBs in Carolina. The backfield will still be crowded in Oakland but the move makes a lot of sense and I believe he will get more of an opportunity to play. He gives the Raiders much needed depth and versatility at the RB position.
As good as Michael Bush was last year in relief of Darren McFadden, the offense lost quite a bit of steam when DMAC went down. The offensive play calling became limited and it was no secret that defenses thought Oakland was much easier to defend. New head coach Dennis Allen said as much when he told us “It was a nightmare to defend Oakland when McFadden was healthy.” The acquistion of Goodson in addition to explosive backup Taiwan Jones ensures the offense stays dynamic even in McFadden’s abscence and let’s face it Run DMC gets injured so they need it.
