PRO: RosterWatch Week 9 Matchup Tool

alex bylineWelcome back. This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested, most popular tool, the instructions couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Bengals RB Jeremy Hill, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look at the Bengals’ matchup for the week, and see what the number is inside the “vs. RBs” cell for the BENGALS’ OPPONENT.

(Hill is an RB, and you would like to know his opponent’s rank vs. that position.)

As you will see, the Bengals are playing the Browns, who have a big, blue ‘No. 1’ in their “vs. RBs” cell. This is a great indicator for Hill owners or possibly those of Gio Bernard regarding success, depending on which Cincy back (if either) receives volume.

In short, you like it when your players face “blue”-colored matchups from their opponents.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and sit in season-long leagues and which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests.

“1″ is the best matchup, “32″ is the worst.

COLOR-CODES

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics from 2015, but also weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive unit scouting grades for members of the 2015 unit that will be defending, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question.

  1. Is S. Diggs somewhat “match-up proof” based on the number of targets he’s been getting? Contemplating sitting him in favor of Stevie Johnson in a 0.5 PPR league, and J. Hill in a PPR league.

    1. I LOVE that we’re now discussing if diggs is matchup-proof, he’s so sick, we love him.
It’s hard to say yet, but volume-based guys typically are to some extent except versus the very worst of matchups.
Don’t know if I’d start either of those guys over him at this point, please check back to see where we have them ranked after we put in computer inputs tomorrow before Hill’s game.

  2. This week is rough with the bye. I have an abundance of Bengals. Most in my lineup. Standard scoring. Lineup is:

    Rivers (Eli)
    AP, Hill, Gio flexed (Latavius)
    Alshon, Marshall, Marvin Jones (TWill)
    Eifert (Watson)
    Panthers
    Gostkowski

Any changes you guys would make? Keep 4 Bengals in the lineup? Or sub Latavius for one of the backs? Thanks guys

    1. We might get in Latavius over one of the Bengals just to curb your exposure a small bit, this is another hard one, we’ll ask you check back at the rankings tomorrow pre-game once the robot genius gets his inputs in. thx

  3. 12 Team Standard (Record: 5-3; fourway tie for 2nd place but 1st in points)

    [1] QB: Tyrod Taylor
[2] WR: A. Brown, Hurns (Hopkins, Watkins)
[2] RB: D. Martin, Duke Johnson (Forte*, Ryan Mathews, Abdullah)
    [1] TE: Olsen
    [1] FLEX: Gore
    Bench total : (5)

    1) Who gets dropped for a DEF: Abdullah or Ryan Mathews?

    2) Cardinals are on BYE so what is best DEF play? Not a lot of options…
    Saints vs. TEN
    Cowboys vs. PHI
    Giants @TB
    Chargers vs. CHI
    Browns @CIN

    3) Would you make any changes to my starting lineup?

    1. Post By FootballKingz

Would prob drop Abdullah- at least RM is flex worthy in a pinch- albeit still a bit of a crapshoot

      Like Saints and Giants DEF

We’d get Gore in as your RB2. Then we would decide between Duke and Watkins for the Flex. We’d prob roll Watkins. Keep an eye on his injury status.

      1. Thanks Byron!

Yeah I was leaning towards losing Abdullah anyway so I dropped him for the Saints.

I actually had Gore as my RB2 and Duke in the FLEX, however I didn’t like the idea of starting Duke in the FLEX since he plays tomorrow night. However that Manziel-run Browns team has burned me in the past! I want to trust Watkins and since I’m starting Taylor over Cutler this week, I gotta hope he gets targeted and hopefully it will be a nice pairing…

  4. 12 team standard Chris Johnson just got dropped. I have forrset,Lewis, and lacy is any one of these worth a drop for Johnson?

    1. Post By FootballKingz

Wow that is unreal. We hate dropping any of those guys- but it sure does seem like Chris Johnson should be owned over Lacy right now. Can you complete a 2 for 1 trade to clear up a roster spot before Johnson comes off of waivers? That’s our best advice.

  5. In ppr, moving forward…..who do u think is better value? Chris Thompson or antonio andrews?

  6. Hey guys, love the show, love the site!
By looking at the matchup tool, im pretty comfortable stacking big ben with Heath Miller and Antonio Brown against the Raiders in a potential shootout, and also throwing some jonathan stewart vs the packers in there. this tool is great!
However, i was also considering putting Ronnie Hillman in, but the matchup is medium and now ive heard news of a potential return to a timeshare in the Broncos backfield. Would you feel comfortable giving him a shot even with CJ hanging around? Im thinking the Denver D is likely to shut Luck down, leading them to pound the ground game, no?

    1. (darren mcfadden is the same price, with a worse matchup)

    2. i still like hillman this week. he got all the redzone carries last week.

  7. Would it be crazy to trade Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Justin Forsett for Philip Rivers, Larry Fitzgerald, and Latavius Murray? I’m afraid of the matchups for the Falcons during playoffs (wks 14,15, and 16). This trade, if accepted, would happen after week 9 is played.

    1. Standard scoring

      1. Cooper or Diggs? Diggs having the hamstring issue.

    2. yes, jones is matchup proof.

  8. I have AP, Hill, Yeldon, Duke Johnson, Christine Michael, AJ Green, Cooks, Allen Robinson, John Brown, Malcom Floyd.

A guy wants to trade me Dion Lewis for A Rob. Or Demarco Murray and Eric Decker for A Rob. Would you do either of those?

    Half point per reception league.

    1. i might consider the 2nd trade

      1. But you’d rather just keep what I have? That’s the way I was leaning…..

      2. He sent me another offer….give up A Rob and Yeldon, get Dion Lewis and Demarco Murray. Is that any better? Or still hold pat?

  9. Broncos destroyed questionably the best QB in the NFL last week. Knowing that, should I start Cousins over Luck this week?

  10. just saw that Fitz is starting for the jets, he’s available as well.

  11. Gentleman,

I’ve been playing TE roulette this year. Currently have Julius Thomas. Curious if I should drop David Johnson for ASJ to play match ups with, with Thomas? Gillmore, Green, Donnell, Rodgers area ll available as well. Other Rbs are Martin, Hill, Lat. Murray and Gore.

    1. asj is a good play if he goes.

  12. Trade questions- 10 team standard scoring. My qb is cutler and I have Been playing the ww. Wrs/tes are my strong point if I want to make a trade. I have Julio evans cooks diggs lafell. Te- kelce/Watson my rbs are hill miller k williams, r mathews, cj Anderson. Do I need to make a trade for a qb or rb? Dalton avail, deangalo williams, Eli, tyrod. Would you trade Kelce and another quy for one of those listed? If so who? Thanks!!!!

    1. U guys hate me yet? Lol

  13. 14 Team .5 PPR (6-2)
    [1] QB: Rivers
[2] WR: Sanders, Diggs (Hurns, James Jones)
[2] RB: Gore, J-Stew, (Matt Jones, Andrews, Bradshaw, Sims)
    [1] TE: Barnidge
    [1] FLEX: Gore
    Bench total : (5)

Damn this team RW squad should be undefeated but lost two weeks in a row to the highest scoring teams in the league! Last week I lost by 9pts to Brees and OBJ…

Need to either package two guys for maybe an elite or RB or WR, or otherwise I’ll need to drop one of my RBs for a Kicker this week. Who gets dropped?

I was thinking of offering Jones + Gore + Bradshaw for maybe Lacy? Or should I aim higher? Gore has a bye week next week btw so I think it’s best to move him now. The Lacy owner offered me Langford for James Jones in a text so if he’s serious should I just take that?

    1. Post By FootballKingz

The main thing you need to do is 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 deal to clear a roster spot so you don’t have to drop anyone. No, we would not trade Jones for Langford.

  14. I have Eifert and Gio and trying to decide between them in the flex tonight. Gio’s matchup is better (no.1) but you have Eifert ranked higher. Who would you start?

(starting Martin and Woodhead and Hurns and Bryant in a rough bye week!)

    1. Post By FootballKingz

Eifert is the upside play- but we find Gio very safe for tonight- 7-10 pts in standard on the low-end. Eifert can go for 70 and 2td any time- which would be upside for close to 20 pts. Depends on your tolerance for risk, think Eifert gets you at least 4 pts which is prob similar to Gio’s floor. Tough, tough call- we’d prob roll Eifert

  15. Who to play tonight Bernard or Hill? Not sure which one to go with. Please advise.. Thanks..

    1. Post By FootballKingz

      We like Hill tonight

  16. Standard league. Langford or s Johnson? Ppr league. Need 1 rb and one flex. Hillman, lewis, d williams, m Floyd, Jordan Reed. Thx guys

    1. Post By FootballKingz

Really tough call- we’ve scouted Langford live, and are not very high on him. Also, obv love S Johnson situation w/ Keenan out. And, both have good matchups- albeit Langford’s looks really good.

This one comes down to who has a better chance to score a TD- and it’s prob Langford

No brainer in the other league- Dion Lewis + DeAngelo Williams

  17. 12 team full point ppr league. We must start 2 WRs and can only roster a maximum of 4 WRs. Current WRs: AJ Green, Brandon Marshall, Stefon Diggs, Steve Smith Sr. I need to replace Smith. Current WRs on waivers are Michael Floyd, Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, Ted Ginn Jr, Rueben Randle, and Kamar Aiken. Who do you like best out of these available WRs to have as a 4th WR?

    1. Post By FootballKingz

If you are looking for an upside stash we’d say Agholor (obv bust potential)

otherwise- prob take a chance on JM getting it together, or if not even Aiken in replacement of Smith is a decent low-end option that offers some potential reliability and occasional upside.

  18. You might consider Givens over Aiken. Hard to say even a Ravens fan but Givens has earned Flacco’s trust.

    1. Post By FootballKingz

Yes- we have noticed this- and do agree. The Trashman said the same thing in his Tues article.

      1. Remember Ravens are on bye this week. Givens has speed. Also way way out there is Joe Morgan, who has said Flacco is HOF caliber qb (compares him to Brees who he worked with) but if the Chemistry is not instant it will be two weeks or so before he and Flacco connect. If you want the key to working with Flacco it is you must be at the position you are supposed to be. He wants his receivers to run proper routes then he will trust them.

  19. I have a ability to pick desean Jackson up off the waiver wire, but I would need to drop John brown, Davonte Adams or, Jeremy Maclin. I understand short term that may not be great until Jackson gets back up to speed. Is any of this reasonable. Or try to trade one of the for running back strength and then pick up Jackson. Not sure what’s the best option, or just leave Jackson alone.

  20. I have to start 4 of the following. 1 PPR.

    Dez
    Blount
    S.Johnson
    Watson
    Yeldon
    Robinson
    Diggs
    Gates

    Thanks for the advice!
