Reports: Chiefs Impressed With RB Joe McKnight

One of the things we made sure and pester Chiefs HC Andy Reid and GM John Dorsey about through the course of the 2014 offseason was Kansas City’s 2014 plans for Jamaal Charles who basically had the wheels run off of him in 2013 as the offense’s only real weapon.

The feedback we had gotten is that the organization views Charles as too valuable to continue putting him at risk with such a heavy game-in, game-out workload – but still clearly viewed Charles as the lead weapon. It was our contention that this surely meant an uptick in fantasy value for talented backup Knile Davis who flashed immensely to end 2013 in relief of Charles.

Now, our good friend Lance Zeirlein of the Sideline View is saying their could be another card in the deck, and it’s a real “joker” for sure.

We have no love for Joe McKnight here at RosterWatch, a player that has been a turd for his entire career – and who’s been more productive at generating arrest warrants and complaints from teammates than he has offensive yardage. The former Jet has landed in Kansas City, though – and we trust Lance’s connections there.

If the Chiefs do like McKnight, we feel this does very little to Charles’ value but hurts the value of Knile Davis slightly – and more importantly, could drastically hurt the values of younger runners a little farther down the depth chart who dynasty leaguers might have prospected on in Cyrus Gray and rookie DeAnthony Thomas.

This is a situation to keep a very wary eye on through training camp if considering owning any non-Jamaal Charles Chiefs backs in 2014 outside of use for handcuffs or fantasy voodoo dolls to stash in case your league’s Charles owner happens to lose him to injury.

For the time being, we are recommending keeping a “hands off” approach to the situation entirely until more details are presented.
