RosterWatch Week 12 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2017 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Chief RB Kareem Hunt, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Chiefs (Hunt’s team). You will see that the Chiefs opponent (OPP) is the Bills in Week 12, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the Bills’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the Chiefs, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Bills). In the “OPP vs. RBs” cell for the Chiefs, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Hunt faces the best possible matchup for opposing RBs in Week 12 (the Bills). This is a great indicator for owners of Kareem Hunt, and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering either of him in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

  1. Big Ben or Rivers? 6 pt TD

Both are side by side in rankings and matchup tool, what does your gut say?

I’m kinda liking Big Ben on Sunday night…

    1. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

Roll with your gut. I think I like Big Ben a little better than Rivers here, too.

  2. Flex, standard scoring:

M Thomas, K Allen, J Howard, or T Coleman( Should freeman sit)

    1. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

If Freeman is a go, I’d lean Allen. If Freeman doesn’t go, I’d roll with Coleman.

  3. Peterson, Mixon, or Forte in 1PPR? Looking for the one with the highest floor.

    1. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

      For this week or ROS?

I think ROS, Mixon is 1a and Peterson is 1b. I think AP has the sheer volume, but his matchups are nightmarish compared to Mixon’s.

      1. Just this week. I need a win to clinch 1st Rd bye.

Man, that’s tough. None of the matchups scream “play me,” but if volume is a large factor, i’d think AP has a higher floor, although he won’t contribute much in terms of PPR. Forte honestly has the healthiest combination of approachable volume and PPR contribution. Unless Mixon has an outlier, feels like he’s in for his standard 14-18 carries for 45-55 yards, middling PPR of the three.

  4. I put this on waiver thread but must’ve missed the timing. Sorry for duplicate and thank you.

    RW,

just listened to the WW pod while working off some Mexican beverages on vacation. My current WR are Evans, Dez, Hill, C. Davis, Maclin, and Crowder. PPR. I’m 6-5 and can roster 6 WR and can play up to 5. Doctson and Westbrook on the wire right now. Would you drop any of the above to get them for rest of season. Prob owned Doctson 6 times over the past two season but keep letting him go for various reasons. I’ll follow your advice to the tee as it won my the ship last year.

    Thanks!! KC.

I think you can comfortably swap Corey Davis for Doctson. Doctson’s train appears to be a little further up the track than Davis’, and Doctson is on the better offense with fewer options because of recent injuries. And Doctson is closer to being his team’s WR1 than Davis is.

      1. Thank you

  5. Headed to playoffs thanks to RW! – but I keep staring at the black anaconda Josh Gordon on waivers – would have to drop C. Davis to pick him up, as I am stacked at WR – anyone think that would be worthwhile flyer pickup for playoffs? Thanks for the help!

    1. I was thinking the same thing after listening to the podcast. I didn’t make the move this morning figuring that Corey Davis is at the top of the cheatsheet for a reason.

  6. PPR

Start 2 WRs and 3 Flex

Dez, Doctson, Zay, Hilton, kupp, Drake, Mckissic, Golloday, Lockett, Westbrook and M. Bryant

    1. dez, doctson, hilton, lockett, kupp

  7. Post By rbrusuelas@consolidated.net

Start Doctson vs NYG, Davis vs IND, or Darkwa vs WAS at Flex (standard)? Also Clay vs KC or ASJ vs CAR? Thanks RW!

    1. i’d go with darkwa, clay

  8. Post By dyanks13@aol.com

    I have 2RB spots and a Flex.
    Mixon, Kamara, Ajayi and Morris.
    Which 3 do I start?

    1. Post By dyanks13@aol.com

      1/2 pt ppr

      1. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

        Kamara, Ajayi and Morris

  9. Rolling the dice this week with Latavius and Perine at RB this week. Still trying to figure out who to plug in at the flex. Diggs, Amari, Ajayi, or Mixon. What do you guys think?

    1. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

      I’m liking Diggs here.

  10. Standard scoring

  11. Hey guys-

Have to pick up a QB this week. (It’s a long and sad story but the rest of my team has kept me in it!)

    Keenum
    Fitzpatrick
    Taylor
    Brissett
    Dalton

    Thank you!

    1. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

      Dalton for me

  12. With d. Freeman still likely out, my RB choices are even more bleak.

    Need 2 in a ppr.

    Morris
    Perine
    Ajayi

Thanks so much! Love the cheat sheets!

    1. Post By woo.jonathanwoo

      Perine for sure.

If Tyron Smith is a go, i’d think you would roll with Morris. RW rankings have Ajayi way above Morris, so there’s that.

  13. Need two for PPR (all flex spots): Diggs, JuJu, Tevin Coleman, D. Murray. Appreciate the help.

  14. Coleman, Murray, Perine, and Morris
    Pick 2. PPR
