RosterWatch Week 12 Waiver Wire: WRs
Byron Lambert, Rosterwatch.com

The pickin’s are slim this week at receiver. Don’t be discouraged. There are still some interesting options. Each player listed below is less than 50% owned across standard leagues.

Santonio Holmes, WR New York Jets
The Trashman and our managing editor, Alex, employed this move last week. The stats weren’t eye-popping, but a return to early season form looks probable. That means Holmes will be a solid WR3 down the stretch. Pick him up right now. Baltimore is a good matchup in Week 12.

Jerricho Cotchery, WR Pittsburgh Steelers

His season has been solid, and his last three games have been unbelievable. We’re a little worried a down week might be somewhere on the horizon, almost by default. The fact is Cotchery is a low-end WR2 on the season- I know- it’s hard to believe but it’s true. We also always like the #2 or #3 WR against the Cleveland Browns. It’s a wild ride because he doesn’t get a ton of targets but Big Ben loves him in the redzone. If you need to play him- feel good about it.

Marquise Goodwin, WR Buffalo Bills
He’s got a bye this week. If you have room on your roster, he’s worth a stash. The Trashman loved him last week. He’s now had double digits in two of the last three games. We’ve personally scouted Goodwin and EJ Manuel live on many occasions and know that they are a match made in heaven in the Bills offense. It’s just been a matter of getting them on the field together.

Miles Austin, WR Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys offense has sputtered lately. With a late season run in their sights, the Cowboys will employ the services of their veteran pass catcher. We all know when Austin is healthy, he’s good. After several weeks off he is very rested. We expect him to be involved in the offense immediately. The move may benefit Dez Bryant owners the most, but we like Austin for a nice return against the Giants.

Kenny Stills, WR New Orleans Saints

He’s a boom/bust play. We always recommend buying stock in Drew Brees when your season is on the line. Atlanta is a fantastic matchup. If there is a week to play him, this is one of them.

Rishard Matthews, WR Miami Dolphins
Matthews had a monster in Week 10, and followed that with a serviceable Week 11. The matchup in Week 12 against Carolina is tough, but Matthews is proving to be a Ryan Tannehill favorite.

Rod Streater, WR Oakland Raiders
A talented player who managed to hang just around the fantasy fringe with Terrelle Pryor at quarterback. Now that Matt McGloin has stepped in, Streater’s ability came out with a 15 point performance in Week 11. Oakland gets Tennessee at home this week, a rather difficult matchup for fantasy receivers. Peg Streater for 4-10 points this week.

Dexter McCluster, WR Kansas Chiefs
He’s an unreliable option, but he’s having his best season ever. Three of his last four games have been solid. He might get you a goose egg. If there’s ever a time to play him, it’s at home with a great matchup. This week against San Diego qualifies.

Ace Sanders, WR Jacksonville Jaguars
We’ve loved Ace Sanders since scouting him last February. He’s an explosive player in short space who can attack the ball with soft hands. Once he catches on in the NFL and/or gets decent quarterback play- he’s going to be a very good player. For now, we like him as a desperation play with all of the injuries in Jacksonville. He led the team in targets last week. This week Houston is on the docket. Not the easiest matchup, but one that just let Matt McGloin feast for three touchdowns.

I need a single flex fill in for this week and all these guys are available. (Minus holmes and cotchery) Any particular one you’d suggest? I’m not looking for breakout performance just a safe play. My teams been pretty decimated.

  2. Would almost always say Mathews or Streater if you are looking for “safe”. Their matchups against fantasy WR and QBs worry me, though.

I prob. like McCluster then Stills —- but if everything keeps trending positively. I’m looking very long and hard at Austin. I will personally be making some of the same decisions later in the week- and will most likely be playing Austin. Maybe pick up a couple of guys so you have some options to weigh as the week progresses and we get more info.

  3. Great stuff Byron! PPR flex- Stills, Rishard Matthews or Ridley?

  4. Man – these questions never get any easier! PPR – have to go Rishard or Ridley. Based on the matchups and recent performance- it’s pretty hard not to say Ridley here.
