RosterWatch Week 16 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community. You can download it as always, or use the new, sortable and user-friendly online version.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2017 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Panthers WR Devin Funchess, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Panthers (Funchess’ team). You will see that the Panthers opponent (OPP) is the Bucs in Week 16, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

They are not the rankings for the Panthers, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the Bucs). In the “OPP vs. WRs” cell for the Panthers, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means Funchess faces the best possible matchup for opposing WRs in Week 16 (the Bucs). This is a great indicator for owners of Devin Funchess, and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering either of them in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

(you like blue matchups best)

BLUE: Best Matchups
LIGHT BLUE: Borderline Top Matchups
WHITE: Neutral Matchups
LIGHT RED: Borderline Bottom Matchups
RED: Worst Matchups

  1. A problem I seem to have every week, but this ones for the $$. I need to bench one of these:
    Gordon @ NYJ
    Collins vs Indy
    McCaffrey vs TB
    Cooks vs Buf
    MThomas vs Atl
    Thielen @ GB
Thanks for helping me make it to the championship game guys

    1. I would bench Gordon

  2. Post By

Need 2 of these 3 in standard scoring. Cj Anderson, Jamal Williams, Stefon Diggs. Thanks Trashman…

    1. Diggs and Anderson. The Broncos appear to be running the ball again. Williams should get a ton of touches but the Vikings D is tough and the Packers might not score much.

  3. Qb question. I have D Carr and drew Stanton. —. But Flacco is on waiver wire ??? I play Alex Collins in my flex. Which qb should I play —- thanks. In the finals. Team name. The Drillers (I am a Dentist)

    1. Stanton has a better match up but I believe Carr is a safer play.

  4. Finals. Thanks for all the seasonal help.
QB decision. Goff, Bortles and just picked up Foles more as a defensive move.

  5. I would get trashy with this one and play Brotles vs SF

  6. Post By

Appreciate the help getting me to the title! Need one more push, PPR:

Ryan, Goff or Cousins (thinking Goff, but Flacco could be a trashy pickup this week)

    WR (pick 3)
Hopkins, Jeffery, Green, D.Parker, Goodwin, Cooper

    Thanks guys!

    1. Hopkins, Jeffery, Green. I would go with Goff at QB

    2. Post By

Picked up Martavis Bryant off waivers too. Might roll him out over Green?

      1. i wouldn’t hold it against you. bryant has big upside.

  7. Championship game, stumped on this one with the recent success of Olsen..

Need to bench one of these three. .5PPR.

    Thanks RW

    1. This is assuming I start Ertz over Olsen in my TE spot…

      1. there’s a chance philly sits starters though, so maybe olsen over ertz and then you can start dez and evans

    2. I think I would bench Dez but that is tough.

    3. tough one, i’d probably say dez

  8. Championship game half PPR flex M. Lynch or Dede?

3rd Place game half PPR D. Murray, Mixon, Gallman, Buck Allen, Bibbs? Choose 2

    1. dede, murray, mixon

  9. Need some FLEXSPOT Advice:
    ( 0.5 ppr)

    * Delanie Walker
    * Josh Gordon
    * Mike Davis

  10. Thanks for all of the help!! Championship weekend! For QB, Winston, Goff or Foles? Ty

    Hey TM, guys:

4 Championships on the line, all PPR w/ 1.5 PPR for TE only, what do you think:

    1) 1 FLEX: Ajayi, Keelan Cole, Martavis, Mike Wallace

    2) Dak or Foles
Need 1 WR and 2 FLEX from: Martavis, Riddick, Robby Anderson, Kendall Wright, Keelan Cole, Demarco Murray, Peyton Barber

    3) 1 FLEX: Keelan Cole, Ajayi, Woodhead, Greg Olsen

    4) 1 WR: Keelan Cole or Martavis (already have Ben, Le’Veon and Jesse James in lineup)

    1. ajayi, i feel like foles is the safe play against oakland even though dak gets zeke back. olsen, i like bryant but if you want to diversify your lineup i’m fine with coles there.

  15. Hey RW nation! Bad News Bears, 12 team 1 pt PPR. In the championship game and would love a second opinion on who I’m rolling with for all the marbles! Need 2 off this list: JuJu, D.Lewis, S.Sheppard, Woodhead. Also need to run with Clay or Gates at TE. Been playing Clay but picked up Gates after HH went down. Thanks for your help!

  16. Carolina or Kansas City Defense?

  17. In the championship game this week and struggling on which WR to bench. Full point PPR, I need to bench one. Mike Evans, Marquis Goodwin, Demaryius Thomas.

I was planning on rolling with Keenum as my QB this week, but now with Perine in limbo, I will have to start McKinnon, and I’m already starting Diggs. Should I feel ok about this Vikings stack? Or should I hedge a little bit and start Alex Smith or Bortles, especially considering how cold it’s supposed to be tomorrow?

  19. RWN, need help! Perine scared me even if he plays, so I’m looking for a flex. Gallman, Tevin, Kendall Wright, Devante Parker. Outside the box option: Jesse James. Matchup tool has Texans as best TE matchup. No AB could mean heavy targets.

  20. Hey guys I need two players in my flex spots. I have golden Tate, Alex Collins, Alshon Jeffery, and juju smith. Also should I play cam newton or Matthew Stafford

  21. Post By
