RosterWatch Week 16 Matchup Tool Now Available

alex bylineWelcome back.

This is a proprietary weekly tool provided by RosterWatch for our PRO community.

It is designed to be a decision-making tool for gauging the defensive opponents your fantasy players face. If you are new to this, our time-tested and most popular flagship in-season tool, the instructions for use couldn’t be simpler, and can be found below.

RW PRO users can download the matchup tool (or access the online tool for use) in the downloads section of their profile by clicking HERE.

DO NOT RELY ON “FANTASY POINTS AGAINST” as your primary indicator for player matchups ever again. It is a flawed metric, as you’ll see, which will cause you heartache and struggle.

The rankings represented here are derived via a proprietary algorithm which takes into account not only standard “fantasy points against” metrics, but also (and most importantly) weighted averages and medians of separate individual player and defensive-unit scouting grades for members of the 2021 unit that will be run-stopping, pass-rushing, or covering against the position in question, along with other analytic trends including projected game-script, game-flow, Vegas indicators, volume of total snaps and much, much, more.

INSTRUCTIONS:

To use the tool, think about your fantasy player.

Let’s say you own Jaguars RB James Robinson, and would like to see how he matches up against the defense he faces this week.

First, look down the list and find the Jags (Robinson’s team). You will see that the Jags’ opponent (OPP) is the New York Jets in Week 16, and there are four color-coded cells in the horizontal columns marked “OPP vs. QBs,” “OPP vs. RBs,” “OPP vs. WRs” and “OPP vs. TEs.”

These are the OPPONENT’S (in this case the JETS’) OFFICIAL ROSTERWATCH MATCHUP RANKINGS AGAINST THESE GIVEN POSITIONS.

They are not the rankings for the JAGUARS, but rather, for the OPPONENT THEY FACE IN THIS GIVEN WEEK (the JETS). In the “OPP vs. RBs” cell for the Jags, you’ll notice a big, blue ‘No. 1’. This means that Robinson faces our best possible matchup for opposing RBs in Week 16 (the Jets). This is a great indicator for fantasy owners of Robinson, and is a positive one for those thinking of rostering him in DFS contests.

Repeat the same process for other players on your roster as you are trying to decide which players to start and which to sit in season-long leagues. Also use it to identify which upside-plays to roster in DFS contests based on matchup.

With the launch of the online tool, you can now sort by any column: vegas line, over/under, and matchup ranks vs. each position for easy reference. The Vegas lines are updated hourly for your reference and research. Please note that matchup ratings can change slightly through the week as lines and totals shift.

“1″ is the best (easiest) matchup, “32″ is the worst (toughest).

  1. Made it the the semi finals in both leagues thanks to Roster watch !!

Which three RBs would you start — A Jones, R Jones, Gibson and J Williams. Gibson has the toughest matchup but he is pretty much all alone in the backfield.

Assuming Hill is out which three WRs would you start — CeeDee, Deebo, Tee or Gab Davis?

    Thanks

    1. I think you play Aaron Jones + Ronald Jones and decide b/t Gibson and Javonte…..(1st world problems homie). Javonte a great matchup- but as you’ve outline Gibson in an interesting situation this wk. I’d go with your gut on that one.

I would choose b/t CeeDee and Deebo. I think I lean CeeDee but very very close – can make very strong argument for Deebo. Again, I’d go w/ your gut here if you have a hunch b/t those two. Safe and Happy Holidays Incognito!!! I wish you great prosperity for the New Year.

      1. Thanks Byron — wishing you and all of the RW staff a merry Xmas and happy, healthy, prosperous New year too will be posting a flex question for other league.

  2. ,5 pt
I have eckler. who would you drop to get Justin Jackson? Aiyuk, Osborne or K hunt,
also defense Tampa Bay @ Car or Dallas vs Was?

    1. Probably Osborne or Hunt. Aiyuk has an interesting matchup this wk. I said as soon as I saw Hunt injure his calf two months ago- that he was toast rest of season. Safe and Happy Holidays Mike! We appreciate your loyal support! Best wished and great prosperity in the New Year!

    2. w/ Heinicke back I might lean TB. Two solid options.

    QB question
    Hurts or Hill?

    Thanks have a great Holiday!

    1. I think it’s Hurts.. Likewise! Safe and Happy Holidays. Best wishes for the New Year!

  4. LIttle help…I need 2 wr’s and a flex:

    Ja’Marr Chase
    Mike Williams
    Brandan Aiyuk
    Davante Parker
    Miles Sanders.

I’m leaning the first three but Sanders’ upside against a bad defense has me intrigued as a flex.

    1. I completely forgot I picked up Antonio Brown as well.

  5. Think I would go w/ Chase and Mike Williams. I would remove Parker from the equation, and I would choose your flex b/t Aiyuk vs Sanders vs Brown.

Aiyuk a juicy matchup, Sanders finally stringing 2 very solid games together w/ another great matchup and game script here, then obv AB in a very good sport ROS. I think I’d play the matchups, which eliminates Brown here (which I think is fine to wait on him a week). So for me this is Aiyuk vs Sanders- and I think the logical play of those two is Sanders at home in a good spot coming off of back to back volume. I think this is a good spot for Aiyuk but only if you have to play him.

    1. Safe and Happy Holidays DJ. Thank you for your loyal support and best wishes for 2022 🙂

      1. Thanks for your help over the years. Happy Holidays to all of RW Nation.

  6. With Ekeler on the list, should I play Jeff Wilson tonight or wait til Sunday and play Ekeler or Justin Jackson depending on who plays? Thanks for all the info and advice through the years. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

    1. Happy Holidays Big Mike, I like either Ekeler or Jackson if Ekeler sits versus the Texans more than Wilson vs. the Titans I think, but it’s a tough decision, best of luck to you.

  7. Merry Christmas RW homies,
Need a RB, WR, and a flex (3 total) (yes this is a 10 teamer lol) between Gibson, Javonte, AJ Brown, Gab Davis, OBJ in ppr?

Also should I play Foreman tonight or wait for news on Damien Harris? Fallback if Harris didn’t go would be Penny or Treadwell which wouldnt be too bad. PPR

    1. Gibson plays Sunday night, if he doesn’t practice today might have to get AJ Brown in there tonight.

      1. I think I go Foreman tonight over waiting on Harris, good luck B2B

  8. Which 2 would you roll with this week out of Mixon, Pittman, and AJB (assuming he’s activated before kickoff today)? This is full PPR. Thanks guys!

    1. We have AJ Brown for 13.59 points, Pittman for 13.4 points and Mixon for 13.46 points. This question literally could not be any harder. If I have to split the hair, I might do it by saying AJB is in first game back, Mixon was banged up last week, maybe I’d lean Pittman.

  9. Will have to sit one of these 4 rb’s in a 0.5ppr: A Jones, JRob, Monty, or Javonte…who is it? Thanks guys

  10. PPR – we have 4 flex positions, and here are the options: G. Davis, Aiyuk, Claypool, Penny, Foreman, Michel, Carter or Pitts. Choose 4. #ratpack

    1. Ratpack is Jeff Ratcliffe!

Foreman, Penny, Michel, Davis I think for me but I would check Trashman;s flex rankings, that is tightly projected group

  11. Only now starting to get over the tragedy of losing my big money league 92. to 86 devastating loss 🙁
Anyways, pressing on I have 2 teams left playing in semi’s 10 team full PPR.
-Need a flex and RB from the following
R Jones, T Higgins, Jacob’s, Pittman, Gaskin, Hubbard, C Reynolds and Aiyucks, he played a major part in my 86 points scored loss. So he really isn’t an option for me. I don’t trust him..
    – Also need a flex and RB: R Jones, Barkley, C Reynolds, if no Swift, T Higgins, Metcalf
    – Shultz or Muth
Thanks RW other than the crushing defeat with 86 points scored ( I can’t seem to let go) hahaha It’s been a good year thanks to you guys.

    1. Jacobs Jones for me
      Metcalf and Barkely
Don’t think muth plays – good luck man

  12. Hey Byron. — for WRs Ja’Marr Chase or Antonio Brown. Also have DeVonta Smith on bench

For Def — Bills, Eagles or Saints.

    Thanks

    1. also Bills or Cowboys D. thanks

    2. I go with Chase but I’m not Byron!! maybe he’ll circle back with his thoughts.

  13. QB for this week? 4point pass 6 point run TD
    Huntley, RussWilson, Garrapollo or Goff?

    1. I go Wilson out of those guys unless Lamar sits then I might go Huntley

  14. Post By julozano@verizon.net

I’m in the Semi-Finals. I need 2 RB’s to start out of these 3 (just read that dalvin cook will be out vs rams).

    Mattison, Ronald Jones, James Robinson.

Also Aj Brown or Amon St Brown?

    Thank you!

    1. Mattison Robinson and AJ Brown. Worried a little about AJB but Amon-Ra could be in trouble with no Goff

    Wilson tonight

    Or

    Swift/Reynolds
    Mattison

Still alive after that horrible week keeps getting better with cook goin out ‍♂️. So need some help With RB I picked up j.Wilson jr should roll with him tonight or should I wait with A.Gibson, C. Edmonds, or J. Jackson on the bench have J.Robinson n RB1 spot. Ppr format

Thanks for all the help this season guys!

    1. I’m a risk taker and would want to wait on Gibson, but if you are risk averse, you have a lot of outs anyway with Conner a GTD to make Edmonds a great play or Ekeler of course missing. I think I would hold off, but, again, it is your semis match and you should handle this based on your level of risk. Wilson is a fine play, but not as good as a healthy Gibson, Edmonds without Conner or Jackson without Ekeler in a vacuum. None of those things are guaranteed to happen for this weekend tho. GL t o you!

You guys rock and listen every Sunday AM and subscribed this year.

So I’ve got a dynasty league where I drafted all rookies while everyone else drafted like a redraft league at the inception and luckily it was a great year for rookies. I’ve won three years in a row but just hit a Covid buzz saw. Cook and Tyrek Hill are out on Covid and my two other locked starters are questionable (Gibson and Moore).

So my question is strategy this weekend in the semi-final game. Standard PPR with a point every 20 yards. I can start 1 QB, 2-3 RB’ or 2-3 WR or 2 TE (if I start 2 & 2 on RB and WR).

    Here are my locked starters:

    Mahomes
    Kamara
    Andrews
    Renfrow

    Other Starter Options (need 3):
    Gibson (Q)
    DJ Moore (Q)
    Higbee
    AJ Dillion
    Tyler Johnson (just picked up)
    Alan Lazard
    Hardman
    Callaway
    Foster Moreau
    Nawangu

Finally, Higbee is still on IR so I’ll need to cut someone to activate him to activate my lineup.

Thanks for your advice and Merry Christmas!
